Tyler Perry

When Hollywood refused to produce his films his way, Tyler Perry started his own studio in Atlanta and now his movies, including the popular "Madea" series, are drawing huge audiences. Byron Pitts profiles the new and unlikely movie mogul.

Who in this world, couldn't relate to one subject matter of his work? Tyler has done well. Spike Lee did a movie on lite skin and dark skin blacks, and Spike put the lite skin in better hotels than the dark skins to cause tension on set for his movie School Daze. Really Spike? We as blacks should be proud of each others accomplishments. Support black business Spike. ;)

I just watched Madea's Big Happy Family, and I would like to say THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST FUNNIEST MOVIES I HAVE WATCHED IN A LONG TIME!!! I laughed until I cried! It's great how you reach out to young people through comedy. I hope they get the message before it's too late. Keep up the good work!

@HotPlayMusicAgency My mother says the same thing. I ended up taking to her to see 2 of his films: Madea Goes To Jail and I Can Do Bad All By Myself. He's a talented writer and can make us laugh, make us think and make us cry. I'm not even a Christian and I think Tyler is great at what he does. I think the excited gentleman screaming and cheering at one of his plays sells it for a lot of us.

I believe God gave Tyler Perry this gift to reach and touch people the way he does because Mr. Perry is humble and does not trash others so he can feel good. Spike Lee has alot to learn about being humble.

im so glad tyler perry said what he said at the end of the video about how hollywood doesn't want to recognize these TYPES of ppl in the world. now just b/c society only labels black ppl that act like this, that's all the world is ignorant toward. "black ppl are so this and so that". SURE IF WE WERE THE ONLY RACE IN THE WORLD THEN I WOULD DEFINITELY AGREE! but b/c we are NOT the only race in the world we need to accept the fact that EVERYONE'S got problems and Madea proudly lets us know this :)

@Tammy29ification Not all film makers are worried about hits. Some people worry about the product over anything else. Tyler Perry isn't teaching Spike Lee anything that Martin Scorsese hasn't.

Its so sad to hear people trip over someone else level of success, but i guess we all play our part, atheist are not God said every knee shall bow and confess with their/our that He is Lord. I think people don't believe because life has been hard for some, loves ones died and others just walked off. Its painful I know, but God will never leave nor forsake us, even when it looks like it. GW don't come when we want him but he is always on time.

I like tyler's work and the opportunity it give so called black to show their skills and gain experience. But, i don't like the fact that he haven't rose beyond the dress and the positive roles the men and women play everyday. its nice to enjoy and release stress through comedy, but where is the substance and cultural identity it all this are we only limited to gangster and comedy. we have a rich culture and history lets educate the world to that as well.

I have a question for Spike Lee. How can America find funny in the real "Flavor Flav" and not absolutely love Tyler Perrys writtings of the fictional Madea. Spike, I would be more offfended by the sterotypes that Flavor Flav brings to the table. Make no mistake, flav is very funny and I do enjoy him now and then but he is a sterotype that is also being advertised on t.v. What kind? You tell me. Now excuse me while I watch Flav's Roast.

Mr Perry its not just the black community that had grand mas like Medea.my grand ma.i got me A wiped more than once.and if my room was not kept it was go get me a switch.Yeah I had to go cut a switch so grand ma could use it on me.I watched her one time kick a guy right in the nuts cause he called her the B word. and If I did some thing bad she knew it before I got home. and it go cut me a switch..so it not just the blacks

To me Tyler Perry is a genius Spike Lee has issues with everyone I remember back in the day he he criticized Oprah Winfrey Eddie Murphy to me Tyler Perry is a genius and blessed by God because he can express himself through writing God will take the foolish things to confound the wise so of course people will always have something to say. So now is his time to shine and that's all I can say
