Two ways to check car wheel alignment accurately at home

I show two simple methods to check your own car wheel alignment accurately at home, both methods can show if wheels are out of alignment. If one or more of the wheels are out of alignment the second method (string line method) is able to show which of the wheels needs re-aligning.

Hiya, Please could you tell me if you have replaced or repaired the pcv/flame trap box on your Volvo V50. I'm struggling to find any info on KZread about where they are located and how to remove/replace them. My Volvo is a V50 2.0l diesel 2006. Many thanks. 🙂

Thanks for the video effort but it seems you have overly-complicated both types of DIY alignments. I clamped a pair of 30 inch long pieces of 0ne inch box steel tube across the front wheels (leveled) using two small quick-tighten 12 inch bar clamps, then measured from right side to left at the front and back of the front wheels. Set 1/8 to 1/4" toe IN and done.

Thomas D Smith, You should leave this to someone who knows what they are doing, there are at least three things wrong with your method. (a) your box section would have been clamped against the tyres instead of the wheel rims, if one of your clamps was a fraction tighter than the other then the tyre would squash more at that point and the box section would not be parallel with the wheel itself. (b) to get accurate alignment measurements you have to measure from half way up the wheels (center line of wheels) so how did you measure from one side of the car to the other ? (c) You think 1/8" to 1/4" toe in is accurate enough, that says it all.
