We had no money for a bass, so we took an old Harmony electric, removed the top two strings and tuned the remaining strings down an octave and turned the guitar's and amp's treble off and cranked the bass all the way up. It sounded horrible, but you make do with what you've got.

Look up the band “morphine”; the lead singer and bassist basically made up his own instrument (a two string bass) so he can play a lot of riffs easier, especially with power chords, while singing. Especially prudent when you don’t have a guitarist, the band was mostly him and a drummer and sax player. Goes to show that ingenuity and creativity is more important than how many strings you have (looking at you, 6 string bass players and 7 string guitarists)

@@SofaKing880I used to play that way too but let me blow your mind real quick. Let’s say you’re in BEADGBE. If you just tune the G down half a step to F#, now you have a regular baritone guitar with an extra *high* string. Now you can actually incorporate that low ass B string fun stuff while playing like normal. In my head, I now have a guitar tuned to EADGBE A, and even that extra high A string is easy because it’s the same notes as your regular A string.

Normal person: The 2 string bass is a bass with only the E and A string. This guy: The intricately calibrated duo of metallic filaments adorning the 2-string bass, in their refined manifestation, navigate the labyrinth of the harmonic spectrum with exacting precision. Each string, a meticulously tensioned conduit of auditory potential, is attuned to a distinct fundamental pitch, thereby orchestrating a harmonically sparse yet sonically nuanced symphony. These metallic entities, poised upon the resonant body crafted from tonal woods, engage in a dynamic dance of vibrations when subject to the virtuosic manipulation of the performer's digits. Through this finely choreographed interplay, the strings, resonating with mathematical resonance, channel their vibrational energy into a transmutation process mediated by magnetic pickups, paving the way for an intricate journey of electro-acoustic transduction that ultimately materializes as a rich and evocative auditory experience.
