Oddly enough - at the time this song was created, there was a spike in suicides that most didn't want to discuss - Metallica decided to address the issue as a way to begin dialogue, but was demonized as promoting suicide....yet in the decades since, they have gotten tens of thousands of letters of people thanking them for this song; helping through difficult times...

You want heavy Metallica, Dyer's Eve, Damage Inc., Disposable Heroes, Master of Puppets, Creeping Death or anything off Kill 'Em All! ... I've been really enjoying your journey into Heavy Metal especially Metallica (My fav since Kill "Em All in '83 (I was 13)). For anyone experiencing depression Fade to Black is the perfect song. The Lyrics are very relatable yet the final solo in the song is so uplifting and inspirational, it has helped me battle depression throughout the years and often saved me from the brink. Everytime I hear this song, even after hearing it thousands of times it still chokes me up and gives me goosebumps. Great vid girls...

@MrPleasant: This isn't a song about about the depths of depression. The person in this song is not depressed, they are crushed by life. They aren't looking for an escape or improvement. They are done, used up. Its over, there is no way back for them and they are no longer interested in trying to find a way back. They just pray for the end and embrace it. I suffer from clinical depression and this is worse than any depression. Depression is a feeling, it implies emotion. This person in the song is empty, they feel nothing. This is the song of someone who is already dead, but their body has not realized it yet. Depression for this person would be an improvement. Its not meant to help the depressed. Its meant to show what it is like when you have been lost so far in darkness you can't even feel it anymore. To compare it to depression minimizes the enormity of what this person is experiencing.

Derp Herpula, you must be kind of on the younger side. By today’s standards, no it isn’t. But back then it was some the heaviest stuff out there. Yeah there were other bands, but nobody did it like Metallica. And this may be just me, but I’m pretty sure these two lovely ladies have never really messed with metal before. So master of puppets, blackened, and all those other heavy Metallica songs will be mind blowing. Just sayin’.

@@ilikefartjokes I'm 21 so I am on the younger side. But as you said, by today's standards, and even by the early 90s and late 80s standards, Metallica wasn't that heavy. Death's first album came out in 1987, then countless other death metal albums were released in the following years. Even Slayer, who's first album came out the same year as Metallica's first album, is considerably more heavy than Metallica. Being heavy doesn't mean anything though. I still love Metallica. I just think it's a little weird to say any of Metallica's catalogue is too heavy for someone. Everyone can love something from Metallica. There is a reason why The Black album is the top selling album across all genres to this day.

Love Metallica - guitar work is so exceptional - glad to see you guys appreciate their talent. It is an odd thing to listen to a deep, sad song that in the end calms you, lifts you with pure power, and makes you feel good after.

The best thing about these reaction videos, is whether you truly like it or just TRYING to like it for viewership(understandable and glad you guys are open minded), it will hit you one day out of no where. You will be at a party one day or something to that extent and BAM a Metallica song comes on that you reacted to and it will hit you like hard. You will close your eyes and it will take you away far from where you are, and thats the moment that you will realize that Metallica songs are not just songs but more of a feeling that cannot be explained.

Same chills I got when I first heard this back in 87...Metallica are very soulful when they want to be, they suck you right in Also, welcome to recordings of bands that use no protools, cut and past digital anything...total anolog, which meant you really had to know how to play, nail your parts in the studio, and stay within budget.

When I lost my cousin to suicide when I was 24 I played this for him and continue to every year on his birthday and drink for him.
