Two Illinois paramedics charged with murder after patient dies
First-degree murder charges have been filed against two Illinois paramedics. An autopsy says a man they treated died from "asphyxia due to prone facedown restraint" on the paramedics' stretcher. The family of the victim sat down with CBS Chicago’s Charlie De Mar for their first TV interview.

These aren't just poor excuses for paramedics, these are poor excuses for human beings.
If you are bitter and hate your job than quit
I've been a paramedic for the last 33 years and I've never even heard of a patient being treated like this. That is your patient, your priority, your soul responsibility. We are in an industry where a mother will hand you her newborn child trusting that you will do everything in your power to save that child's life, and you NEVER betray that trust. People who suffer from substance dependance can certainly be difficult patients but you never judge them and you always treat them with compassion and respect. I am sickened by what I've seen here and my heart goes out to his family members.

We take care of everyone homeless, people detoxing, people who want to hurt themselves, people with severe mental health issues etc....if you don't want to help people then go do something else. This is hurtful and disturbing in so many ways. The total disregard for life. They did not see this man as an human being. They judged him unfairly, and inhumanely.
How'd they even become medics? They both look slow af. He's like 300lbs... Methed up.
You call for help and their response, "I'm not in the mood for this s***!!"
You can tell they were just disgusted by him probably because he was poor. He was an alcoholic and he was black no doubt about it. People always want to think that we’re pulling the race car or that we’re complaining or they were making things up but now, with cameras, you can see firsthand what we go through and deal with And most the time we don’t get a second chance for this when we’re treated like this this we pay with our life

As a healthcare worker in a hospital. I apologize. We need to check what frustrations we have and treat each patient differently. Also we must treat all patients including drug and alcohol addicted patients with compassion. I have to do yoga and meditation to check in w myself and it helps to pray before I go to work. It is a gift and an honor to do my work and to be asked to serve and help others. We must not take that for granted. Why do the job if the compassion isn't there? You have to have your heart in it when being a source of help and safety. Police, Paramedics, doctors, nurses, teachers ect. Don't go into the field if you're selfish and disgusting like them.
They violated the Hippocratic oath and should lose licenses and get Prison time. 😘🤐
I once saw a paramedic in a parked ambulance. There were 2 paramedics who had just put an elderly white woman in the ambulance. I stood by watching,,wondering why they were talking to each other, instead of not not driving away to the hospital( I assumed that was the destination),,, so,,with the lady lying in back of the ambulance, one paramedics was shaking vigorously the head of the stretcher as the woman lay there,,the paramedic kept conversing with the other while shaking vigorously, continually, the head of the stretcher! When I'd seen enough,,I yelled at the paramedics and asked,," why are you bouncing this lady's head up n down, shaking the thing so fast n furiously? Stop it! Stop that!!" The paramedics said to me.." I'm not doing nothing!! She then promptly closed the ambulance side door,so I couldn't see anything more!! I've never forgotten what I saw! I hope the sick person got to the hospital o k and is alright today. I hope so!
Don't take it easy on the cops either
They are used to doing ppl like that. That saw no value in Earl whatsoever. Even after his death, to say that the charges are a stretch and that the case is unusual when there is video that shows the incident, shows that they feel they did very little wrong. A life was lost! Not to mention, thank God I want dying, but I’ve been in similar situations with Illinois paramedics. They definitely talk and treat u like that on the regular. The doctors/nurses/er are used it abs most of them don’t blink an eye to how paramedics treat ppl, same as the police in this video.
Of all the substances that create dependency, alcohol can be the most lethal when discontinued suddenly.
Disgusting the way they treated him like a piece of garbage. That lady has no reason to be ems at all.

Officers sat back and helped commit murdur
They knew they could've gotten him on his back easy. I see medics and us nurses do it everyday! Why was he not monitored for the ride and given oxygen for support since he was already having labored breathing. Very disturbing!
They did not treat him with any amount of respect or care! He did not deserve to die.
It's enough that it was Earl that night...there's no who to say who it would be on any other night. This happening to him is an outrage , his life should be enough in value alone, the two paramedics along with everyone at that scene for their antics, should be charged. I don't think the police did exactly all they could. They should have called for another pair of medics or taken him themselves. It's terrible how EVERYONE treated him. ( Full body cam video will explain)
Emergency Medical Responders need to be wearing body-cams too!
When people are going to learn somebody is always WATCHING YOU.
Ugh this pisses me off..If they can't handle their job they shouldn't be in that line of work
The way that man slammed his head on the stretcher layed him on his stomach then put the straps to tight on and only lord knows what else they did to him inside the ambulance...
A lengthy prison sentence is an appropriate punishment.
they were real help in his time of need.made him coffin ready shameful
This is terrible. At the very least it is negligence but one thing that could be hard to explain away is putting the man, shoving him actually, onto the stretcher, which was outside, and then strapping him to it tightly, while he was prone position (belly down). Especially with the apparent symptoms of distress and breathing, that makes such an action even worse...her attitude only bolsters a case that this was done out of emotional recklessness or intended to inflct injury non the patient. And Cadigan never even enters the house! He just stands out there, then shoves, violently, the patient back onto the stretcher face down...then they strap him to it tightly. They knew what they were doing was wrong. Many times, people taken by ambulance, treated by EMS are in highly vulnerable physical and/or emotional states....this kind of behavior and actions makes it an even more heinous crime. They killed him. They had to have known what they were doing was very likely to cause further distress and injury.
I'm so glad that lady was absolutely disgusting with her actions
I wish people would have this much frustration and outrage regarding the actual systemic societal problems that lead people to become addicts in the first place.

I hope both paramedics get the max sentencing. And I hope they know suffering throughout the rest of their miserable lives. How could they do this to someone??
I'm a paramedic, watching this video turns my stomach. I have no idea what happened to these medics that made them loose sight of their duty to care for others, but they clearly should have sought careers elsewhere a long time ago. Now they're facing the consequences of those actions.
As a 13 year paramedic in a busy system, you just don’t treat people like this. In this line of work, Yes you will get tired, yes your patience wears thin, yes you are sleep deprived and maybe working a shift against your will, yes you may be hungry, yes you are away from your family. BUT NO, you do NOT treat a patient this way. They should both have their paramedic licenses revoked immediately. This makes me so sad. You can be stern and still be respectful. What I saw was utter disrespect.

I as a nurse watched them as they say stabilize the patient in the parking lot. They use as much equipment and supplies as possible to charge excessive amount of money for the supplies. when the hospital is at most 10 minutes away. I've had the hospital call my supervisor to ask why my patient was so cold. The camera in the parking lot showed they were there for 45 minutes before transport. Thank god for cameras.

When People in Healthcare are malicious (like these 2), we can, at least, take comfort knowing they will NEVER work in healthcare again. But I'm not sure how this incident will have any major implications in how emergency healthcare is provided in this country, other than EMTs now wearing bodycams.
This is the only incident we know about!!! They treat animals better!
I see a lawsuit and bankruptcy in Lifestar's future.
They deserve to be in jail. RIP Earl.🙏🙏🙏
Good. Call themselves "heros" but go to work and don't want to give 100%... not even 30%. Sh it people that thing they are doing a hard day's work. Happy to hear this news and hope it's a wake up call.
Their bail was set at One Million dollars. They couldn't afford it so they asked for it to be lowered the judge said no. So they will sit in jail awaiting trial.
The cops, paramedics, and EMT should be fired. They treated this man like he wasn't even a human being. I'm sure each one of them would have treated their dog better. None of them should be in the medical field this is the problem now. People just come into the field to make money and don't give a crap about the people they should be caring for. Whoever hired these people for these jobs should also be fired. The behavior was disgusting by all of them including the police in the end. America should be proud their finest or at work again

That's great they need to be jailed they should sue the 🚓 as well
I am a retired nurse who delt with those type of attitudes. We just told them to take patient to the hospital. We were the medical professionals they were just the bus driver. We made them take patient to hospital because if we didn't need them to go to hospital we wouldn't have called them. I worked the night shift and we got that attitude all the time because we woke them up to do their job.
You don’t put a patient in that shape prone!!
That's the way most medical response teams are towards people that they feel don't deserve to live! Florida is no different! Speaking from experience! Majority of the time it will be the person very own family members, friends, associates, etc. That's right along with such treatment!
How are you a Emt and not do anything to stabilize the person they just strap him down like he was loose luggage on top of a cargo rack.
Give them the whole 60 yrs
