Two Harbors Eagles ~ Ravens Take Cholyn & Chase's Egg! 💔 Both Return To Nest Heartbroken! 5.6.24

Cholyn and Chase have been incubating their egg for a long 74 days still believing in an eaglet hatching. This morning Cholyn gets up from incubating and is gone 7 minutes when a raven comes to the nest and breaks the egg. A second raven joins in and they consume the contents of the undeveloped egg. There was no sign of a developing chick it was all liquid & membrane. The first raven flies off with the remains of the egg and Cholyn comes back to the nest and is looking for her egg. She is staring at the nest in disbelief it is gone. She tastes some of the yolk liquid on the nest and she aerates the nesting material before incubating where the egg should have been. 💔 That was heartbreaking to watch her. She finally gets up and flies off of the nest. Chase returns right after her and he is looking for the egg as well. So sad for them to have to let go of their hope to raise a chick this season. Chase knows it is over and he flies off the nest.
Cholyn and Chase have been together since 2003. They are both 26 years old and have raised 23 eaglets together. They will now be able to fly off and enjoy the summer and hopefully next season will be successful for them. Thank you for watching! #IWS #TwoHarbors

Good for this lovely couple I would say it's truly a blessing in disguise. So sad for these two eagles. What a long time to be together and raise so many chicks. Praying for both of them that next year will be better for them. They looked so heart broken. 😥💔😪❣️

So sad for some of the eagles nest this year. This is what happened to Big Bear Lake Eagles Jackie and Shadow but Jackie instead ate her eggs so Shadow can move on and that way her eggs don't get eaten by others. Hope next year all the eagles will be able to have eaglets. Cholyn and Chase I'm sorry for your loss but enjoy the summer together eagling around.

Thoughts and prayers for Chase and Cholyn💔🙏😞🦅🦅❌⭕️. It also breaks my heart that mom and dad had the feeling that maybe their egg was gonna hatch even though we knew it wasn’t possible but however, it could have been a sign from God to Cholyn and Chase that it’s time to move on so they can start fresh for their next season.❤️🙏🦅🦅. I know it still doesn’t make it end easier on them (Chase and Cholyn) cause they now definitely feel the definite loss of their egg and I’m sure too not knowing where it went when it was there when they both left the nest. God bless Cholyn and Chase and I know they will mourn their loss but they are capable of moving on when they know it’s the right time. Hugs love and blessings to this awesome Eagle pair. Foe once, Nature did a good turn here. For C & C , IWS, and all of their Fans. The Ravens in the act of Natural cleanup work, let all interested Parties know what the Egg status is before removing it from nest. Undeveloped Egg matter is a simple and properly stated term. The Heartbreak was coming over a long time--the Ravens confirmed this was it's time to show it. An older E Pair--with an enviable Record of bringing New LIfe to this area of the island, had one of their infrequent misses in the new life Lottery. Next Nest Season is another opportunity to try to fulfill the Mandate of nature(and one of the Lord's commands to all his subjects) "Be fruitful and Multiply" . C & C have been fruitful with their lives-- whether they have another chance to Multiply is up to the Grace of God and Nature's Whims, which at times can be so very cruel. Thanks for Posting L.H.

So hard to watch. My heart aches for Chase and Cholyn. I pray next season will be a happier one for them, as well as or Jak and Audacity at Sauces.
