Two-handed Sword's uniqueness lies in dexterity

Спорт

Liu Lu has been practicing Wushu, a form of martial arts, since childhood. He has forged his own two-handed sword, wielding which requires a certain level of flexibility in one's body - its uniqueness lies in dexterity and trickiness. He also runs a Wushu school in his hometown Anqiu City, east China's Shandong Province. "When I had students, I started to think that it is no longer my own business. There's a sense of responsibility and a spirit of inheritance," he said.

A bright resilient youth, seeking to carve a niche is modern Chinese economies. He may not be the 1 nor last of a 2 handed sword Kung Fu~ I m guessing that Chinese long history of martial arts fighting, would have had cross this path. Then again it maybe a start of revival. Is it effective techniques for fighting-only those skilful martial arts masters/Sifu would know. But it is graceful and I believe that in short time ~ movies will be made. Kudos to the hard work that he embraces. 👍 👍 👍

long two handed swords never got popular not only because it was expensive to make, but also it doesn't have advantage over either pole arms or one handed swords with shield, and of course, long range weapons.

Yes expensive to make and difficult to yield a reliable long sword limiting their popularity. However, historically Long swords (Great swords) sword have proven themselves many times in battle and tournaments. You must realize that very weapon has advantages and disadvantaged when pitted against any other weapons. Shields can be combersome, obscure visibility and even be used against the wearer. Polearms can be snapped and misdirected by great swords, allowing the swordsman to close. Many other considerations for viable method and use of Long/Great swords.

It's too slow it would lose to the spear easily from what I saw. There's a reason they use spears on battlefield. The leverage is all wrong for such a long sword.

afaik there were a variation of 2h swords transliterated as "giant horse cutters" that were probably given to city guards; but you are right!

Don't be so sure. The Zweihander, a German great sword with similar dimensions, was used against calvary and pikes by mercenaries. The issue is these types of weapons require a lot of training, especially in group tactics. But a skilled swordman was a whirlwind of death.

Cool looking sword. This sword seems too long and very heavy. Personally I would choose a shorter 1 handed sword. Or a spear/pole-arm if I need a 2 handed weapon.

If you've ever held a Han Jian Chinese sword before, you know how light these swords are. This 2 handed version is no different. Just slightly heavier at around 3 pounds.

@@VChong1991 You club opponents in armour, blades are pretty useless against decent armour, that is why techniques like half swording are used to bash or target gaps. In any case, western long sword styles and techniques can also be very nimble and not at all like wielding baseball clubs which is what is shown in movies.
