Two Abandoned Steam Engines Were Found in the Smokies

Hey you guys, Chet the Dream Poet here. Come anchor down for another vlog today as we hike into the Great Smokey Mountains National Park to find two ghosts that have long since been forgotten, steam engines! These engines are a close cousin to the steam locomotives that once hauled lumber out of these hills. And remember, don't forget to Like, Subscribe & Comment for more awesome videos. Anchor Down!

Those wheels and that weird circular thing you saw were actually a part of a steam powered logging crane, these cranes would drive between rail cars on small and light rails they could pick up and move between different cars. Just like the rail you picked up! The cranes would pick up logs that were pulled up (by the steam engines you saw) and placed next to rails and they would place them on a flat car and then move back a car and put it on another one. Very neat! The bigger steam engine you saw was unfortunately not a locomotive, the small engines come in a variety of sizes and that just happened to be a large one. You can tell because the locomotives have two domes one is a steam dome and one is a sand dome. The one you saw only had one dome and a smoke stack. Still pretty cool though!

Also if you look up little river railroad museum you can see an old crane just like the dismantled one you saw on the trail at our museum in Townsend!

Possibly lol. It makes me wonder that too because all of it was nearly straight up hill.

Ever notice that butterflies love poop? Anybody? Actually it is atypical meaning not typical. (The locomotive, not the butterflies and poop)! Good video though. Makes me want to go take a look.

Thanks! I recommend it! But I would suggest getting the coordinates for the second one. It's about half a mile off the trail.
