I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (exercise, journaling, studying etc) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my journaling habit - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on YT. After a really bad depression phase I started to believe I couldn’t change and I’d feel that horrible forever. Historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up.
Third variation if it takes more than two minutes: do it for two minutes, and if you notice you feel well enough to continue, do it! If you focus on a task for just two minutes you will usually trick your brain into wanting to continue the task. If you still have a hard time after two minutes, don’t force it- might be your body telling you to take an active break (I.e. go on a walk, stretch, eat a healthy snack, etc) and then come back and try the task again for two minutes.

@dromedda6810

I don't have adhd, but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhat autistic. What helps me start things is making everything else a chore. For example if I need to study: I tell myself I'm just going to open all that I need. The paper, my text editor, the assignment. And I layout it all out on my desktop as if I was gonna get started but with the intention of not actually doing anything. If that doesn't get me going i then go do some small task like browse the fridge or just have a look outside and when I come back it's more of a chore to close everything and do something else than it is to get started. Also writing all of thoughts down as they come to me help get rid of it from my brain
@graciouscompetentdwarfrabbit
Жыл бұрын
@@veronica-AM i tried it but journaling (bullet and regular) just felt like another chore for me (specially the bullet type, because I'd waste like 30 minutes laying out my entire day instead of actually doing something), the only thing that has kinda of helped is trying to (kinda) "gamefy" some of the habits I that I really want to implement in my life, for that I used an app called Loop Habits or something like that, which is less distracting that Habitica (which is the one that does kinda gamefy your habits)

@@CarnageJesterX How? If you studied for 2 minutes, you know it will end soon and will most likely pay your full attention because why not? It's just 2 minutes. That way, you'll actually retain a lot of information, a significant amount of what you studied (which may not actually be a significant amount of total study material). Anyway, that's not the point. The point is to develop a habit of showing up to study every single day. Once it actually becomes a habit, you're free to start studying for 5 minutes everyday. one of the best videos i have ever came across, so much beneficial information conveyed in short span of 2 minutes is magical✨
I couldn't agree more I've been trying to better myself recently and ive pushed myself to read a book just for 15 minutes and draw for 30 to an hour. My biggest problem was that whenever I'd try to better myself in the past I'd be like I gotta go big or go home and from the start try to study or whatever activities I wanted to partake of for 2 hrs each or all day. I've learned that that's just not feasible. I feel like with all of those motivational speeches or self help vids (not this one) a lot of them make it seem ok u gotta start grinding big when that's not the case. Start doing whatever activity for just 10 min a day and ride that out for 2 weeks or 1 your choice then kick it up to 15 then 20 then 30 ect until u reach an hour. It's ok to start off small and take your time gradually moving forward theres no rush and the key thing this is doing is building the habit. Because if u perceive it as a daunting task u won't do it and bail out but if it's easy u will do it and if u do it continually it'll become a habit and you'll realize u can do it for longer and longer without it being a pain in the ass.
You know this actually makes sense and I can see it working just by hearing.... I got exhausted working out cause I was doing a lot of routine exercises everyday and I just got tired of it,I'm gonna rethink that with this in mind...thanks a lot 😊
I think I need this 2 minutes rules because lately I was procrastinating a lot. I am a freshman in college and my course does a lot of paper works. I hope I can apply this rule to myself. I'm hoping, really fighting ✨ It's my first time visiting this channel and I didn't regret tapping this video.
I was expecting this video to be 23 minutes long or something typical like that. How refreshing.
MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! I can't believe people are missing this while learning how to study, including me, start easy. I've always said, I will study 2 hours a day and do it for a week and stop. But like any talent, you have to start with the basics. Start with idk, for example a skateboard, start with standing on the board, then standing on the board with one foot, then push, learn basics first, then expand on harder stuff when you master the basics.
I’ve been trying to be more efficient with managing my time, thank you for the tips! I also have become a firm believer that we are what we continually do/observe. 😊
Such a needed video. Thank you for your effort. ❤

Glad it was helpful!
This makes so much sense. I'm such a procrastinator especially with studying and cleaning, but recently I've told myself I'll clean something for just 10 minutes a day and it actually does make a difference! I'm going to start with the study thing next thanks!
The fact that I've had this in my watch later for weeks speaks volumes
I love that this video itself is just about 2 minutes. No wasting time, quick and straight to the point. Gold.
Limiting yourself to 2 minutes is great advice! I definitely recommend it to my students. Thanks!🙌

That's awesome. What have been the results so far. Please keep me posted on their progress. 😊
Alright, here's my story that kinda relates... I work in IT and we have kanban system in place (many of you might know it), so part of the system is a "backlog". Sorta "to-do list" where all newly created task go at first, then it reviewed by the project leader to get thing prioritised. Something critical goes first to an "in progress" step, something that's not and can stay in a backlog for a while. Sorry for that long intro, the story needs it. So, anyway. I got on of these backlog tasks applied to me and marked as non-critical. It was a bug in our software, giant-ass one that i thought i would spend days maybe weeks fixing it. Everytime i looked at this task i thought: "For god's sake, i'm too busy for it right now" and keep to pospone it. Again, again and again. Months(!) after, i said to myself: "Fuck it. It's now or never". I was so nervous about i might spend for it so much time cause, i might recall, i thought this bug would take ages to fix. So, i moved the task to "In progress", opened up the code sequence and it took me 14 minutes to get things right.... 14 damn minutes, dude... Even the project manager said:"Woah! That went in "Done" section way faster than i thought i would" I never postponed a thing in my life since then.
Super helpful, thank you!
You’re so right! I just timed myself to see how long it would take me to start my laundry, and yeah 1 min 47 secs. Great tips 😄
Man that line " A habit needs to be established first, before it can be expanded " was lit 🔥.
Thank you! 👍
Great video! Concise, brief and relevant! 👍👍👍
Love it! The book is amazing. But it was really good to be reminded. And I really appreciate that you value our time by getting straight to the point and not making a 10-minute video out of it 👌🏽
The quote "A habit must be established before it can be expanded upon." kicked in like truck. I start right now to write down those Mini Habits in my journal. Thx for the short but very impactful Video!
Very Helpful thank you!
The "getting the small tasks done" is actually really amazing. Makes you feel a drive of productivity too. Lmao Atomic Habits is a good book bht as a student I cannot study for TWO minutes and not study the rest of the evening-night (Morning to evening college) I've been embarrassed and scolded upon enough by my teachers. I am ashamed to step into college. Sure I would love to First make a habit of starting to study without exceptions progressively day by day but there's too much work to do so, and teachers won't be allowing this. :D everytime I open my textbook to read chapters and highlight imp points etc., or watch youtube explanation videos, I GET "TIRED ALREADY" AND SLEEP IN MY DESK AND GET SCOLDED LATER BY MUM LIKE WTF??
NGL this is the best video to beat procrastination I've seen on the internet so far.
Good hints, tks!
Fun fact: this has been on my watch later Playlist for more than 3 months. You should have cut this to under 2 min 😉
Thank you so much for your videos guys. They are really useful because I feel like they are tailored specifically for students like me so they fit my needs really well.
Thank you for the tip & looking forward for more of this content !!
Thank you!!
Gotta start somewhere! So simple, yet so brilliant.
"A habit needs to be estabilished before it can be expanded upon". I might not have tried the strategies yet, but I can't say how much I agree with that. I remember I used to do a lot of different things as a kid, and it's so easy to do it when it's already in your comfort zone. I went to a Tae Kwon Do dojo to train three times a week, and had to walk 1,5km (almost a mile) to get there and then back, and I could do it so easily, even more than once a day, since I did that same walk for school, and even everyday when I was only a few weeks shy from a belt test, including Saturday mornings. Nowadays I'll be avoiding to try new gyms in like half the distance...
As someone who might have ADHD, the problem with 2 minutes rules is that it solves procrastination but threw my priorities out of the window since I notice tons of 2 minis tasks all the time. Like when I clean the dishes, I’ll just go on a streak of chores and exhaust myself from doing more important tasks. And guess what I do after the streak? Procrastinate!

Just to practice showing up it’s already feels like a big improvement!
Okay I will add this to my watch later playlist
Concise and straight to the point thank you
My mom was never a bookworm. But this is one of the life lessons I learned from her. She told us, If there’s something that you needed to do that would only take 2 minutes of your time, do it NOW. 😊
Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤
The fact that the video was only two minutes long made me keep engaged and focused knowing that is going to be over soon.

Loved the fact that it's not just in 2 mins but you conveyed the whole message concisely and understandable in that time

Useful piece of advice for being more organized and keep things going. Our attention span is away not longer than 2 mins usually. Thanks for sharing, helpful in growing and working on my youtube channel. :)
I like it you keep it short. most of the youtubers like creating tv show and documentary for 20 minutes saying this and that. you made the point straight.
These two habits are very helpful thanks dude
Video: 2-minutes rule to beat procastination Me* saved in watch later
Starting today. Starting right now! Thnx
Thanks!, I really need this trick.
Thx! You are so right-you are becoming the person you want to be and you have to begin somewhere! I met with my advising counselor when I was in school for medical coder, and I was really bummed that I could not study for one hour a day. And she challenged me to study for 15 minutes a day, that’s it!Once I was committed to that 15 min, I was able to become the person that I wanted to be-one who studied at least one hour a day. I’ve grown in various ways applying this concept. It does work!
Thank you for such amazing vids! Could you sometimes make a video about how to study with depression? It's a complicated toppic, but sometimes you just Have to study even if you don't feel okay... ♥️

I have a better idea . Let's ask them to make a video on "How to study when you have stage 4 cancer?" .....Bro whatever it is , no matter how bad it seems there's always help present . And there is a reason why depression is called an "illness" , it's not just a "state of mind" . GET HELP

"Bro", depression isn't something that goes away in a week or two, often it takes years to work with it so that you're okay and even then it's not perfect. I personally have PTSD. I got help. It never really goes away, you know? It's been 9 years now, I know how to deal with it and it's just occasional thing for me rn, but it takes the same amount of years to heal as it took to "break you". Get educated.

@@piyusha6969 this is a weird comment, though i see ur point. why not make a video on how to study w cancer?? some cancer patients might still go to school. likewise, people can be depressed and still want an academic future

@@Miri-sw1frI apologise for the way that I put my thoughts in words fella. All I am saying is get the help you need , to get to a point where you can atleast work with some ease in your life, And I am again really sorry for the words that hurt you , and I know it may not help but I personally never had PTSD in past , but some other mental illnesses, and just wanted to let you know that it's does get better and yes even to the point that you can work optimally. Best Wishes to you and for your future 😊😊👍👍

Check out the Ted talk "How to get stuff done when you are depressed" it might help you
Straight to the point definitely worth it. 2 minute rule helped a lot
This is probably the most useful video I saw this year. I want to master few simple habits (most of them are actually 10 to 30 min), but I want to give it a try and do one of those, only 2 minutes a day for a month.
atomic habits is amazing book. i have been reading it by following 2 min rule and next day im so exited to read next part which i was unable to read the day before because of 2 min rule. totally recommend
