Is it because he was manipulating or because he knew how bad a situation looks even if there was a legit good reason to have lied? I don't really know. I'd prefer to see all the info first ig. I think if I was caught in fucking up this badly (eg. I have severe adhd and very much could have fucked up this badly memory-wise lol), I'd probably sue people who just DO have a bad track record of being also bad people who like to be vindictive even if they are dead wrong... Waiting for the court case to address all these other complex elements and the unaccounted golf money. It’s pretty bad but Colleen Ballinger’s apology is absolutely the worst one of 2023

Here's a short story: a roommate I lived with, someone I considered a friend, one day accused me of wronging him with no proof. And when I say "accused" I mean he talked to the landlord behind my back and got me kicked out. My best friend, who was best friends with him, didn't immediately come to my defense but he didn't take his the roommate's side either. Instead, he waited and heard me out just like he heard him out to get both sides of the story rather than adamantly defending either of us because he knew it was too serious yet vague of a situation to make a judgement call. I bring this up because this is an *actual* reasonable response to such events that can tear apart relationships in the blink of an eye. Normal people don't just throw their friends under the bus but normal people also don't just outright believe everything their friend says just because they said so. Its called common sense and when you no longer have the capacity for it, you should admit to your behavior and mistakes you make when you lose it. That's what is normal. All of these people are upset and embarrassed that they were made fools of for blindly believing Jirad. The funny thing is, all these hyper long responses and short worded deflections are proof on their own that despite all the time they were given to watch and review evidence against their friend, they still chose to blindly support him under the guise of "wait and see". Had the initial findings been super vague and unclear from the get go then I would understand the defense people mounted for Jirard but both Muta and Karl were very thorough right out the gate with receipts and details that left very little room for doubt. These people here may want to act like their actions were justified and reasonable but the truth is that they weren't. They actively ignored proof to protect their friend which NEVER ends up well in these controversies. I have no sympathy and no pity for any of them. They got played and instead of owning up to it, they try to desperately absolve themselves of their actions in a vain attempt to save face. Hmmmmm.... almost like someone else we all know

  • @Dragoonsoul7878

To be fair, it isn't impossible to fake receipts and details. Editing web pages and false web pages exist all the time while it taking 10 years for people to realize is suspicious. You can, through the inspect function, edit stuff like the text you wrote and take a screen shot. Scam sites have existed near identical to real sites. In the end Jirard is guilty, but people can and will go a long way to lie.

If people who you don't agree with can have the respect to wait for evidence to come out before making accusations, then the least the defenders can do is backtrack when the evidence comes out.

I remember seeing Jirard's eShop video in my feed awhile ago and I sat there completely dumbfounded as to why anyone would make a video about buying them all for the sake of "preservation." For those not in the know, Nintendo's eShop security was pretty godawful up until the Switch (and it probably still is), and there were programs that let you rip just about any game from their servers provided you had the proper license, of which several people had already dumped the vast majority of, if not the entire catalog of both the Wii U and 3DS before the eShop's shuttering. The community had been on top of it since probably the Wii (the WiiWare archive is like 97% complete iirc). It shocked me how many rubes bought into his supposed act of charity when that money would have gone to much greater use archiving the PS3 and Vita's online libraries, of which only around 70% of what we know of is backed up, and the axe constantly looms over those platforms' heads.

I can actually comment here on this: There's a vast difference between the legal act of purchase and donating to an archival preservation society, versus skimming from the illegal rom sharing community. I do agree that those libraries would have been more useful, but the eShop was in the process of being axed, not just had the threat of the axe looming, so it also made for an excellent PR stunt on top of the legalistic differences.

Thing is, responding to a close friend being accused of crime would naturally be to get on their side. However, the embarrassing part is to state your support loudly, and denouncing the accuser. I won't pretend like I remember every piece of the accusation from Mutahar or Karl, but I'm sure I've watched more than ProJared did when he told them to "talk to Jirard".

I get you don't want to go against someone you look up to or consider a friend, but there is always the option of not saying anything and just waiting until all the facts come out. But no, as if on impulse you instantly felt the need to respond and make a fool out of yourself. This is what twitter brain rot looks like.

@@illseeyaonthedarksideofthemoon Here's the thing: while I'm not disproving Karl or Muta AT ALL (they've proven they had receipts AND were just holding back until Jirard threatened to sue them), it is normal to not accept something as "proof" because some folks from the Internet said so. Some of them have said they rather wait until the Court says it's proof which is respectable. They ultimately have the say in what counts and what doesn't even if we disagree. However, they're also able to open their eyes once they gain more decisive evidence aka the Discord call. Receipts are one thing but immediately jumping ship because someone is bad because of a piece of evidence that seemingly makes them bad is about as bad as immediately sticking with your corrupt captain. All I'm saying is, just because Jirard reminded us that some nice people aren't what they seemed doesn't mean we can just keep assuming the worst in people especially when they were just trying to defend someone they cared about and was labeled a fraud by people from the Internet. Those folks needed more than just a piece of proof. They needed that call and much sooner from the looks of things.

Even if he was negligent and somehow didn't know what was going on despite being a member of the board and it was his family that controlled open hands. There is one aspect that 100% can't be explained except that he was purposefully lying for years. He has talked about bit, subs, and merch, etc going completely to charity for years and it was plastered all over his streams yet in his "apology" states it was used to cover cost. Bits, subs, etc. don't go directly to open hand so he would have to donate it after the fact. To trick people into giving money by stated all of it would go to charity when he knew this wasn't the case. So while using donations to cover cost of events is legal and it still a fact that he has been knowingly lying about this for years. Sure he could be innocent in the legal sense but he admitted to lying to everyone when he stated he subs, bits, merch to cover cost.
