You have helped me so much with your videos making my first silver mokume gane rings. My goal is to make one with 18k yellow it also but I’m not confident enough yet. Any tips for if the black doesn’t come out as dark or clean after heating up? Some areas will look nice and dark while other areas end up a lot lighter. Also I would love to see what you have been working on lately!

Great Job!!❤. Are you worried about galvanic corrosion between the 800 silver with the other, purer silver?

Try getting a small tap wrench and tightening that onto the end of the bar of mokume, might work well.

It does work well for spinning the billet. The problem though, is it cuts too much of the vibration and feeling out as I twist. I am looking for even the slightest feeling of resistance and through those pliers the smallest tweak transmits much easier for me at least... I also like that I can steady feel the difficult nature of the metal return as the annealing is worked out. That is also harder to detect with a tap wrench because of its ease of use, that added torque can actually work against me here. The idea is sound however and that thing does work quite well here.

Do you have any videos of you fusing the layers? I've messed around years ago doing this with sterling and copper. Didn't do s good job. I make anticlastic earrings and bracelets and I'd love to do some in this style

this is amazing bro. i’ve got some 925 i’d like to make something with but no pure, could i use the 925 where you use the pure and have it still be shiny and not black?

If you replace the pure in this with sterling, the result wouldn't be what you want. The fire has no effect on the Pure , it does on sterling though, and unlike the 800 which turns jet black, sterling just g eta a blotchy blemished appearance. So you would hit it with a torch, and turn the 800 black and the Sterling a dark muddled greysih color that looks awful, it's why my all silver rings lack silver but my gold ones don't. However you can use the sterling with a few other alloys and get a good effect using baldwin's patina, I don't use it as it has has no effect on silver or gold but will make copper and Copper alloys turn Black. So you could use the sterling and mix up a alloy like shibuichi, It is made from copper and.silvsr but it silver content is set at a lower level (there are a few recipes, but a mixture of copper to silver in 3 to 1 or 75/25 -mixture is most common and remembers light shades of copper or rose gold.....you can also go 65/35 60/40 and 55/45 each will have a distinct color range from pink to grayish, and will contrast nicely with Sterling, and they can be easily darkened with baldwins patina.... Let me know how it works out :)

It doesn't have to be,. But I like them because they are pure copper and weigh exactly 1/10 of a Troy ounce. So it makes it easier to portion them out. Other than that, just make sure whatever it is you use is pure copper and not a brass variant of some other copper alloy

How much do you charge for a band in the two silvers?

I'm sorry I didn't see this message. They range anywhere from 400.00 to 750.00 or so. It depends on the size and design essentially. generally they average about 500.00. there are a few other factors but for the most part it comes down those 2. I can get you a more accurate quote, I just would need to know the particulars starting with dimensions, So to start what is the finger size and the how wide would you like the band to be?

Hey there man what's going on, a Cuban Link like this would be sick I sort of made one, not really though LOL now this particular Billet that I twisted up and turned black is 800 and fine obviously, I would not recommend Sterling when using an all silver mixture like this. Leave work because the 800 turns jet black while the 999 stays bright white, however with Sterling youwill get a muddy grayish tarnish from the heat treatment, and anything you try other than that, such as liver of sulfur or acids will have the same effect on all the metal. However if you're going to try silver and gold or silver and another metal, that wouldn't be a problem at all in that case, and I would recommend Sterling in that situation

Why not use the mill to shape it square? Also, why do cameras pick up the cabinetry real nice and what you're doing, not so much in focus. Ugh. First world problems

The reason for forgoing the mill here is to ensure those folded over areas which used to be the corners are not just shaped square, but actually filled in leaving no internal cavities that will become covered and hidden. These are known as cold shuts and they will wreak havoc later down the process of finishing the surface area. They are also intrinsic weak points when bending or forging later for shape. Also the hammer will cause light variation in the pattern adding a wave effect. And as for my camera work......lol.. I'm working very hard on getting better, and you are being kind in your critique...it is far worse than you make it seem and we both know it lol However I believe the values of the final content will be improving as I slowly learn this medium...it took a while for me to get good with those torches and hammers also, so the camera is next :) Lots more coming my friend so keep watching
