Twin Lakes Campground 360 Degree Virtual Tour (Mammoth Lakes, Ca)

Take a virtual tour of Twin Lakes Campground in Mammoth Lakes - find your ideal spot. Note this video will look best on a high definition screen.
Also - we suggest you use this video in conjunction with the map available at the recreation.gov website. While we found that map is not entirely accurate with regards to the campground roads, the sites are correctly positioned and you can identify them as we drive through.
Recreation.gov site for twin lakes including map can be found here: www.recreation.gov/camping/ca...
A few folks have asked what companies deliver RVs here, I believe www.adventureincamping.com/ is one of them. We used them many years ago and they did a good job at that time.

Can't even estimate how many times I have been in this campground. Both on patrol for Mono County Sheriff, Mammoth Lakes PD and also camping on our weekends even though we lived just a few miles away. Thanks again.......

Thanks, this video is quite popular - when we did it we did not realize that this campground is the most popular campground in all of California (at least I heard that stat somewhere, don't recall where now). Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)

This is a beautiful campground the spaces look nice and large and the opening building looks very nice. I saved this on our maps this looks like pur kind of campground. It is so nice how you mention the loops and quite a few of the site numbers that is always so helpful. Thx this was very helpful we have very few campgrounds saved from the area.

At the 7:45 mark, the narrator points out that Site 16 is on the right, but I believe it is on the left.

I think you are right, I got that one wrong. Sorry about that! Since I made this I have started doing live callouts of the sites, it's just less error prone rather than doing it as a voiceover afterwards. Thanks for the correction.

Do you happen to know if there are showers at this campground, and if not where one could go for showers?

I think they have showers at the general store which is a short walk from the campground. I would double check on that though - We have not used them. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for this video but some of the verbal site call outs are incorrect. It looks like they were done looking at the rec.gov map not the actual video. For example, at 7:48 the video says "Site 16 is on the right" which would match what the rec.gov map says but the video very clearly shows it as site 55.

Thanks for the comment - When I did the voiceover I worked off of my notes from driving as well as the video. However I agree with you this is an error and I don't know how that happened. I cross-checked the map at rec.gov but found that to not be accurate in many regards and did not use that for the narration (for instance, it does not even show this road connecting, nor does it show site 16 from what I can see). If you find other examples of mistakes please do note them it will help others. Thanks for watching!

My mistake again - it does show this road connecting - it is the next loop it shows not connecting, and yes it also shows 16 but it's on the left and probably where I made the mistake.

Actually looking at it again 16 is on the right but before we made the turn. Possibly the video was lagging the audio

Where would site 81 be? Unfortunately they canceled my entire reservation due to weather and now I still try to come up on something. I kept one camping trip and it's so cold and the campgrounds are much emptier than usual.

@@bobanddangsjourney Thank you. Btw, can you recommend any good campgrounds in Utah for the summer that are at a high elevation due to the heat? I'm also considering Great Basin in Nevada. Never been. The weather in California has been crazy this year and even Mammoth is closed until mid July.

The area we would be looking at- based on our experience is near Bryce. There are several boondocking areas around there that might fit the bill and at about 8k in altitude. We have not spent a lot of time in the northern part of Utah but I know there are lots of nice places up there.

Thx. It doesn't let me respond to your reply for whatever reason. We would be in a tent and not an RV. So more temperature sensitive. I have site 81. Someone I know site 53 and they might let go. So I tried to figure out what's better. I think that side of the lake 53 is on is nicer.

  • @bobanddangsjourney

    @bobanddangsjourney

@@Jose-sy1je I think they are both nice, but I would agree that the side where 53 is is in general a bit nicer - it feels like you are on an island there to me. I'm sure you will have a great time at both places, and I don't think the temperature will be a problem, but what you need to be concerned with is the snow - they got so much up there this year its going to take a while to melt, and you probably don't want to setup your tent on snow. I would call the ranger station up there to get a report on how the campground is doing before you head up. Good luck!

On second look - I think site 63 is the site I could not find on the map at around time 5:51 - its on the left of the 1st loop. The sign is very hard to see but when passing by it zoomed up I think that is it. It would make sense that it would be across from 64 as well. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@@bobanddangsjourney Thank you so much for your reply and this great video! The map of the campground is so wrong! It showed this site to the left of 68. I probably wouldn't have chosen this site bc I'm kind of scared of bears coming out of bushes and wanted to be more in the center. But I could never get any sites and people started dropping sites they didn't want. So you can't be choosy lol. And thx again for this video and taking the time to confirm the spot.
