If Jihyo debuted with not so popular idol group, it would be a different story coming back to your point that they improved so much. Undoubtedly, their chemistry and dancing are top notch. But when it comes to vocal. i'm sorry. Just look at how they struggled when the MR is switched off. I'm saying this because Twice is one the best group in this Kpop generation. JYP should do something about it.

But if you see their lives vocal at their current worldtour they all did pretty well so I think they really improved much ( nayeons high Note at tokyo dome). But I think they all kinda lost their confidience and are getting nervous on the encores tho bc they got sm hate especially momo. Sure ,some of them still need to improve a lot and I agree with you that JYP should do smth about it. But I also think they are mostly lackin confidience (they are more confident singing to onces and this isnta excuse btw) And with jihyo one idk. I really think has REALLY good and strong vocals and should be considered as ONE of the best kpop vocalist. Ofc there are better vocalists than her( Wendy ect) but yea idk

@@TheNickz clearly you havent seen them live on stage. i dont see where you getting your idea that these girls cant sing well in live? their last tour majority of their songs are live except more and more and feel special half of it since sana lowered her key so we think half of the vocalization is live but they did sang well if your standards is just these clips in M- countdown who is well know for giving ambush performances with out giving a single monitor earpiece to the performers i mean 80% of that performance will definitely be a disaster since they wont even hear the metronome and key notes for the song even black pink said that on their live that they cant hear the music since the crowd noise is very laud. try watching them on their live concert and come back here again if your verdict is still the same then i guess music is not for you.

@@marley3690 hate to say it but sometimes it genuinely isn't possible. Not all people can reach all ranges, and that's alright, most people have a comfortable range that they can sit and sing at and in that range they will sing fine, it is when companies push people to sing outside of their trainable range that there then because health hazards for their vocal chords and throat.

Honestly a lot of the members are vocally more comfortable in a more alto range but JYPE forces them to sing in a soprano rage bc it matches Twice's concept better. :( It sucks that many of the members are forced to sing above their range

I swear Jihyo, nayeon and jeongyeon are such good singers. The 3mix really carried twice when it comes to vocals!!! These girls are perfect but it’s so sad how jeongyeon is getting less lines when she clearly sings better than the rest (Mina, sana, tzuyu and momo)

What happens with Jeongyeon is that she rejects all the lines that she can't vocally afford so she always slays her lines and is stable af. But this limit her doing colourful tones to her voice something that Sana, Mina and Tzuyu can do while recording but not properly show on live.

I understand that jy tone voice is too deep for twice concept, she also don't do that "half air half sound" technique, her voice may not be as unique as the other members, but still, I hope they gave her more lines because "lead vocal" is her fckin position... sigh I hope in their new comeback this aug she gets more lines

@@kpop_slay3837 When they were promoting Alcohol Free and they were talking about "First Time" Jihyo said that she wanted Jeongyeon to sing more lines but Jeongyeon said that she rejected beacuse they were too high for her. Maybe she could have done it because she has the voice but maybe it could hurt her cords or not able to perform properly.

I was SHOCKED when I found out sana had a natural deep voice like 3-2 years ago. She sounds awesome, maybe even better in her lower range!

@@anam2133 no her voice is not naturally high. She has bad vocal placement. When you place the voice in the nasal are and sing with a heavy nasal tone it makes it seem like the voice is thinner/higher than it actually is. Anyone can do it.

JYP messed up the group so freaking bad to the point these girls barely have confidently in themselves-their voices are so good but then you have them trying to sing a note that’s not their vocal range. Then you have Jeongyeon A FREAKING TALENTED ASS QUEEN-having her talent being put to waste. Her is so freaking stable to the point I even think JYP doesn’t want her in twice. Because let’s be honest Jeongyeon’s voice is stable and very elegant it is so freaking nice to listen to, it’s very kind. I just hope she gets to show her talent more often.

jeongyeon is so underrated she is always on point & stable

Chaeyoung's problem is confidence. She's a decent singer, and can turn into a good if she train! Chaeyoung always do the C#5 of What Is Love in falsetto, but she made a mixed version on tour and God, that was beautiful and well grounded edit: omg tysm for each one of the likes. I'm not saying "Chae is such a good vocalist now she should take Jeongyeon, Nayeon and Jihyo's place rn" I'm just saying that her not being confident in her live vocals can lead her to worse inconsistencies.

Western singer, like Ariana Grande, when she not confident to reach high note in live, she change the note. It is common practice for singer. Because they are real singer who can improvise the song to fit their vocal condition at that moment, because sometime they feel tired or not in the good feeling.

It's less about range and more about voice placement. Nayeon and Jihyo can reach higher notes but they tend to strain. Momo used to have decent placement in sixteen but I don't know why she got so strained and nasal to the point that she can't even reach some lower notes. Jongyeon's voice is pretty well projected, more than Sana, actually, she just needs more confidence and more vocal training to improve her muscle memory and build confidence. I hope they can get the proper training that they need, so that they can sing more comfortably and show the true beauty of their voice. I am so sad that they got hate for their voice. They should enjoy their stages more than anything. Twice fighting 😭😭😭😭😭

They're a performance act not a Taylor, Adele, Mariah or whoever western artist you want them to be.. they focused more on endurance to last a 3-4hrs concert and memorizing choreos. That's what makes them more entertaining than seeing western singers or rappers asking the crowd to sing with them after the 3rd song cuz they're running out of breath already. It's something you that don't know how stage performance works

I think there's a little bit of a difference because in more and more, it's mostly the C5 notes whereas the 16 clip there's only one C5 note. You can tell in that clip too that she's slightly uncomfortable with hitting that note even once but because the rest of it is in range it doesn't stand out as much.

Momo was never a good Singer and she's definitely up there for worst vocalist in kpop but her role is a rapper and dancer so it doesn't really matter. Sana has shown no improvement either and is underdeveloped. Tzuyu is close to support and has show massive improvement. Chaeyoung and Mina just meet the requirements.

Tbh not being biased at all I swear, even tho I ult twice, I absolutely LOVE her deep voice. Her parts in rewind make me levitate. But yes that’s the only register (low) which I like her voice, she’s not a good vocalist,and that’s okay, she’s a rapper and dancer

This is actually pretty simple: TWICE is the most awarded gg with like 120 wins, this means: More encores = more % of messing up. Less encores= less % of messing up. Just as example; Mamamoo, who are known for their pro vocals, have way less wins than TWICE and yet they have voice cracks in some of their encores too, at this point it's really noticeable how encores makes a lot of kpop idols more nervous/anxious even than concerts due to the backslash they constantly receive from knetz. That's exactly Momo's case; always amazing during concerts and 100% spot on in japanese music shows (where they don't even allow lipsync) but when it comes to encores in korea, she gets noticeable more nervous and I think we all know it was due to Sixteen's after-effects, I mean, it took her years to open up about how that show made her lose all her confidence. Add the fact that a lot of TWICE's song are hard to sing due to really high range (the girl themselves said JYP makes them sing high pitched) Yes, TWICE vocal strength is 3mix but the other girls aren't half as bad as some ppl and antis like to spread around, especially when they keep improving every time they come back.

I do agree, Twice popularity means more stages. But be aware that Twice have a very high pitch in their songs. I am an alto (highest I can reach is D5, if I warm really well maybe E5, no more) and their songs have some out-of-my-range notes. That means if their voice is not warm enough or they're dancing the note becomes hard to reach and mantain. Their songs are difficult. The line distribution does not help, imo. The comparison with Mamamoo is unfair: their songs are lower, I can sing the most of them in my comfort range, and their coreographies are way easier (notice that Twice pants heavily at the end of live performances, MMM less). Plus Twice unfortunately got shamed a whole lot for their singing abilities and this mined their confidence and ability to react to mistakes. Mamamoo are known for their mistakes and they laugh at each other's voice cracks.

the truth is they cant sing their own songs properly without lip sync.. their songs are made for "twice" but their songs are not made for the members. Their agency should have considered the member's actual voice range and singing capabilities and modify the songs to fit the members and not force the members to sing the songs not meant for them.

This is one of the factors which made it hard for me to stan other groups outside the companies that doesn't prioritise vocal. Not just vocal training, they kept giving these idols songs which are way above their technique capability. The reason why Lesserafim's discography is okay to me is the fact that their songs are singable for them. I don't hate any of them, but the reason why a group/idol stuck in my fave list is their discography and live stages. 75% of kpop labels have failed their idols and the people since the 1st gens.

Have you heard the b sides in Twicetagram album? nearly all of them were crap just like how the song 'Likey' was crap. 'Fancy you' album is when their b sides started improving. Before that, Twice had maybe 5 good b side tracks from from their whole career between 2015 - 2018

Twice's discography that I've heard so far has so many of them with challenging vocal arrangements. Like some of the members are so afraid to sing their songs during encore and for live performances.

Avoiding a note is not a smart tactic. Changing the note is the smart tactic. Some singers lower the high note parts if they got sick or tired or etc. but for twice they mostly skip it.

One thing abt Jeongyeon is that she’ll ALWAYS give her best no matter when or where she’s singing.

until this day i am very much confused by the songs they are given. i dont really remember too much from my coach but she said kpop singers often relies too much on their chest voice and it's not even trained properly since they focused more on dance, to make it worse the company gave songs that doesnt suit their vocal tones or even ranges. makes it difficult for them to sing it live. another addition, lately they even use pre records and backtracks on stages so idols dont have the amount to train on live singing in front of crowds. plus the company wants them to appear "perfect" on lives, making them worry too much on making mistakes while singing live, it's painful to watch and they are just humans, not AI or robots.

Not only is your analysis incorrect (you obviously know nothing about range, singing, or notes) but you put down other members to prop up one. I know you feel bad that Jeongyeon is under appreciated, but putting down her members isn’t appropriate….

Ok i agree with you and I'm so happy you include clips where they slay. Honestly Jeongyeon is my favorite singer in twice with Jihyo, and it's a mystery to me that she doesn't do any melody project or anything individual with her voice I just don't understand. Maybe she isn't confident but in almost every song, she always has an emotion in her voice that get through me. Also we dont hear Mina often because she doesn't have much power, so it is usually eaten by the back track, but when you hear her, she is really good at carrying her parts, I would love to hear her more often too

The point is that they’re giving the girls songs that are outside of their range. Those notes are extremely hard to hit and it’s ridiculous that anyone would expect them to hit it since 1. It’s clearly outside of their range, and 2. They’re also dancing. It’s not as much that they can’t sing as much as it is the companies aren’t being realistic about what can and can’t be done on stage, which makes the girls look bad.

Which is why I’ll always admit as a Once, Twice are hardworking angels. But individually their vocal capabilities as a group is lacking incredibly for such a veteran group. Their choreographies? On point. Their energy and presence? Amazing. There are times when their vocals do come to play, but that’s the confusing part. You can’t tell how good or bad they are because of how mix and matched it is, it’s all very inconsistent. True some of the lines the members get are out of their vocal range and some have never been especially good singers (i.e. Momo, and it’s clear the company are not utilising her strengths properly) but there needs to be clear development. Some of the members get the easiest likes to sing, even if you’re tired to at least have some decency singing it, or during the stage, but yet still somehow they don’t? Even with the rapping too. So Twice as a group needs a LOT of improvements vocally for sure alongside their management of how ‘tired’ they get and how weak they sing and rap live at times. I still love them though, I know they have amazing talents, but I do feel as though it is an example of kpop companies pushing idols that never initially had that potential. Even if they do improve: Momo is an amazing dancer and potential rapper, could have developed there but instead she’s dancing and singing in high ranges. Tzuyu was just a visual point from the beginning. Dahyun’s rapping was always weak and never had any initial great feats besides her funny nature, these are just some examples. It would be nice if the company would stop forcing comebacks every second as much as the girls love it, and develop their strengths and skills more. And some onces, just as we criticise other kpop idols and groups, need to accept that seeing problems or weaknesses in your fave doesnt discredit how great they are, and that it’s not ok to try and be blind about it or lie consistently that it’s because they’re ‘tired’

Despite all of the time Jeongyeon has missed, I still consider her to be one of the best female kpop singers in a group. She’s good. People just hate her for other reasons

Fancy was undoubtedly a fantastic track, but it is clear that the captivating vocal melody was realized primarily through technological augmentation. There are folks who can successfully cover this song, but I think the issues Twice has singing it live demonstrates the impact of how technology pushes the boundaries of what's entertaining without needing to respect what's comfortably attainable for human singers. The challenging range gives Twice a superhuman poise when performing this song with the appropriate backing tracks, but clearly falls apart when left to the members' pure abilities. Fancy will be a memorable and well regarded track for years to come, but it is not a very accessible song to perform.

Putting this kind of video up is NOT helpful. I really hate when fans say "I'm not doing this as hate I just wish JYPe took better care of them" then turn around and share every not-so-amazing moment they have. Voice cracks happen even in the most amazing talented singers, they are HUMAN. During More & More Momo was TERRIFIED to sing on stage because before they ever did a live performance people we already talking shit about her vocals; she did not have once and she did not want to be hated on even more. She still has that anxiety with the more recent stages as well. Sana is like Dahyun and has a soft singing voice. I'm shocked you showed a Fancy encore because Sana was being hated on very heavily during that time. Her voice was wavering because she is holding back tears. Chaeyoungs "SOS" is clearly just a silly way to say it. what was the point of even including that? Nayeon and Jihyo are not the only singers to avoid singing a note that maybe they cannot perform at that moment. That doesn't mean they can't reach that note because they have in a lot of other live performances and obviously in the studio. again, They are human. It's just obvious to me that you love Jeongyeon so much that you are willing to give backhanded compliments to the other members to raise her up. Jeongyeon is an amazing singer, as are the rest of her members. No two singers are alike and that's why we enjoy them together.

I understand that they(jeongyeon's bias) may feel everything is unfair to her like i mean i felt it too! But if you open your eyes it is actually fair with the others like tzuyu! However they are okay with it jeongyeon and tzuyu and all of twice are okay with it! If they are not why would they want to continue the contract?? Please think first you all..and please support all of the members.. not just one. Videos like this is the reason why momo felt anxious in the most recent encore stage (scientist) And obviously she won’t hit the baby note in fancy, a lot of idols and singers in general don’t try to hit the note if it’s too high for them, especially when they’ve been dancing and are out of breath.
