Best TVS titles ever. From the TVS ident epically "rolling over" into the Coast to Coast titles and brilliant music. Just really perfect for the time.

Lol, the lady at 03:32 is most probably right when saying that she won't notice the difference. She refered to the station as 'Southern', so clearly didn't notice the last switchover, and that she'd be watching 'TVS' for the last decade.

At 3:32 that old dear has been enjoying Southern Television so much, she hasn’t actually noticed they went off air 11 years before!

Impressive professionalism from TVS in giving such a positive preview of Meridian for its viewers! Really good to see that, though of course they couldn't resist a bit of (well-deserved) own trumpet blowing too (3:00 onwards)! :) Thanks for posting this.

I suppose they saw just how nasty and spiteful Southern Television came across in their final shows in 1981… credit to TVS they showed class and dignity to the very end, 30 years ago today

Consummate professionals. Coast to Coast was a class act to follow. Great theme tune, excellent title sequence, well spoken presenters. Although Fred Dinenage is still around, ITV News Meridian is a poor imitation of what went before.

TVS was a really professional Company- right to the end. It is a sobering thought that had they had bid a lower price to keep the franchise - we might still be watching 'Coast to Coast' now. Of course TVS needed to bid enough for the IBA to think, 'that's excellent'. Unfortunately the bid was so high, even the stuffy old 'IBA' realised it was far too high. The second point of your comment, well who could blame them for blowing their own trumpet?

I noticed that too. A lot of older people, even now refer to Meridian ITV1 in the South of England as 'Southern' old habits die hard they say!

@Tripp1993 The quotation you refer to was made in 1992, you then go on to say that changes were made in 2002 - that is ten years later!

Everyone is going on about how Meridian should just be called ITV South - if TVS had retained its franchise, well, that'd have been a much more likely event to have happened.

People from the South who moan about changes made to ITV South change from Southern to TVS and Meridian, Don't realise it only the name that has change with new management, At least Fred Dineage and most of the news team are still there, it not though the news presenter were going to get the chop for new team
