Very well handled by both sides! I think the message is getting through. Under no circumstances would I want the police to stop asking us questions if they have any concerns whatsoever. The point is, they need to use their intelligence and recognise the limits of their authority and I think this officer did. The person filming was also polite and got their point across. Job well done on both sides.

Funny isn’t it. How police officers find it suspicious when you don’t want to give them your name ( which they will immediately run through the police national computer to try and find a way to arrest you) even though they admit that you are doing nothing illegal. What I would do is, the second a police officer starts asking me questions like “ do you live locally ?” Or “ can I take down your details? “ would be to immediately say, “ I find what you’re asking me these questions to be very suspicious “ and go on to say “ In this day and age, when a police officer asks a law abiding citizen for his details, it might be for a corrupt purpose” And then suggest that he has no more reason to ask a photographer who is taking picture of a police station for his details, than a painter, painting a picture of the police station or a man walking his dog up and down outsiders police station. As all these activities are lawful. The government does not draw any distinction in law between these activities and therefore, nothing can be inferred by a photographer taking pictures any more than a painter painting or a dog walker passing by. Ask him to write down his name and address and the names of all his family members and the. You’ll consider giving your details. He’ll refuse, but the point will be made. Every minute of every day, officers all over the UK break laws and stamp on citizens civil rights. They embellish or lie on written police reports, commit perjury in court and ignore the criminal activity of fellow officers. They enforce their egos, feelings and opinions, make up charges to persecute any citizen who does not bow to them.
