Tuxing HPA/PCP Water/Oil Filter Update: Mixed Fillers Sieve

Last year I added the Tuxing Water/Oil filter to my compressor/tank set up and was (and am) very happy with its performance in reducing (almost eliminating) any water/oil getting into my air tank from my Tuxing compressor.
As you recall, the filter that ships with the compressor is limited at best. I added a second filter of a similar size and soon found out that even two filters is not enough to run the compressor for more than 15 minutes without soaking the filters in water/oil.
So I picked up the Tuxing filter, which is just a GIANT version of my other two filters. Does the job very nicely.
So why this video? I recently came across an updated version of the Tuxing filter that offered multiple types of filter "sleeves" (or sieve). I had seen homemade versions of folks taking PVC and desiccant to make their own sieves for the Tuxing, but I held off.
After seeing the newer filter offerings, I decided on the mixed filler (vs. just a single one of the three choices). This video is the unboxing as well as the direct comparison of the two units.
I have not yet put this unit to a test yet as I'm wondering if it will fill faster than the cotton filler version due to density differences. Maybe air will pass faster/dryer through the three filter types. That will be my next test, so stay tuned.

    While the Tuxing compressor has a water separation device between the first and second stage, it is still far better to feed dry air into the compressor. Water will condense between stages, causing seal failure as it flashes back to vapor during low pressure periods. I use a 120 PSI storage tank with a half pound of 3A molecular sieves to dry air, then draw this air off at 3 PSI to feed the compressor.

    I'm trying to navigate the world of air filters and water separators to pick one suitable for my 60 gallon air compressor. I recently purchased a large plasma cutter and I want to take good care of that machine. Your filter system looks like it might only be good for low volume air requirements. Can you offer an advise. ?

    I think your video helped me figure something out. I just received the oil/water separator like the one you have with the longer end caps that came with the charcoal and desiccant. Could you do me a solid and look at the interior of your two cylinders and see if there is a difference between the two. My cylinder came with some small groves running the length of the cylinder. I'm curious if that's because it was meant to have that secondary cylinder with charcoal and desiccant. Thanks in advance.

    ryuge84 - I have had my Tuxing compressor for over a year now without a single issue. I change the "oil" (I use HA 46) as soon as it darkens, only run it to 62 degrees celcius, change the water to cooler water each tim I reach either time or temp limits and change the small air filters after 15 min of run time. So I haven't had the need to source parts for repair.

    I just received the tuxing upgrade and i am using it for my portable scuba tank. But i noticed that when it got assembled. They put the connection backwards and i would like to confirm the set up with you. To my knowledge, the charcoal.. should be the last phase for the air. Before entering the tank or guns. Am i right. When i detatched mine after the first use. I noticed the quick connect was threated on the cap holds the inner tube in place. Leading the air to pass through the activated charcoal first. And i am positive that the air coming out of the compressor hose, should hit the clear bbs. Then the desiccant as stage 2. And the activated charcoal as stage 3 for a pure, cleaner, dry air. Because the charcoal shouldnt be the 1step. It will collect the water before it hits the desiccant. So i unthread the quick connect nipple, and switched it with the hose. So inside the tube, the activated charcoal is on the side, that the hose is connected. Hose that goes on the filling tank. So check on yours the way it came. Usually you wouldnt need the charcoal if you process air for shooting. But it wont harm your riffles or pistols if you do. U want nice clean air in them. So in your video, i noticed that yours came in, wrong as well. Analyze your video and u will see that the cap with the quick connect plug,, where the compressor hose goes in. It will push air to the activated charcoal first. U have to switch the hose, to the cap that is not set to hold the inner tub with the O ring. So your quick connect nipple should be threated on the cap that is made to hold the tub snug. Again, the charcoal should be facing the side that you screw the cap with the hose that connects to your air tanks or riffles. If u havent changed it. You are getting the moisture or water on the charcoal first, soaking it wet. To then hit the desiccant furthet in. Switch the connection

    charcoal is useless in my opinion for filtering. It is only useful to avoid bad smell due to compression. Molecular sieve only is probably the best version because the sieves keep humidity and you can regenerate them using an oven when they are too humid.

  • @FlexDRG

    @FlexDRG

    those glassy beads (silica gel) are also good at water absorption and can also be regenerated. most dehumidifier products use the glassy beads. Molecular sieves are better at doing the same job.

  • @beebop9808

    @beebop9808

    Molecular sieves are for carbon removal, not moister. Desiccants are used for moister and they aren't like sponges and require contact time. Having a pill bottle full isn't going to absorb a room full of air moister. Carbon is useless unless breathing the air you're pumping. But then you wouldn't be using a pcp pump if that were the case. Of these two options the cotton or foam is a better bet catching moister and oil. Replace them often and recycle them if you happen to have a dehydrator to dry them out.
