We have a similar map as the one seen in your background showing all the places visited. We have both US map & international map. They are ones where we scratch off the location visited. Eric C

Hello.I like the venture x for the travel, lounge & catch all 2%, CSP & freedom flex, & amex gold for 4%. Is it better to have just one set up like either chase trifecta or amex or capital one or multiple set ups to maximize all the categories?

in the beginning, I recommend focusing your efforts based on what trips you want to take. Once you get deeper into the game, then it makes more sense to diversify. I also offer free credit card consultations to figure out the best combo for your particular goals, budget, and lifestyle at www.geobreezetravel.com/consultations

Because it’s easier to find one way then round trip because when you fly with points for business class you sometimes never fly the same airline back

@ricor8256 is correct. It's often easier to find award space for one way at a time, especially if you fly back a different way than you came in. However, some airlines like ANA only let you book round trip (or open jaw) award redemptions, and Emirates sometimes has discounts when booking round trip rather than one way, but these would be the exception rather than the norm.

Hi Julia, how do I know when the points value is too high? I think you mentioned being willing to pay 10k points per flight hour. Does that apply to summer flights to Europe?? Our dates are not very flexible. Thanks ❤❤❤

This comes with experience, honestly. It partly has to do with how quickly you can generate points/miles too. If you can generate points quickly, then the value of them will be different if you're using an airline card and earning a couple miles per dollar. Generally speaking, having traveled to and from Europe and Japan several times over the years just using points, I consider anything from the US to Europe or Japan (and vise-versa) higher than ~35k pts to be too expensive. A good business/first class deal is about 55k or less depending on how you value your points. That said, I typically only fly coach to maximize the number of trips I can do a year. The fact that Julia is able to find Business class seats for about that price is an *excellent* value. With simple math (assuming a business-class seat to Europe is about $2k on the low-end), a 35k pt redemption makes your points worth at least 5 cents each, which is a fantastic return. Most bank's points (depending on how one values them) are usually considered to be anywhere from 1.5 to 2 cents each. Stretching them to return over 5 cents is an excellent deal. Unfortunately for you, since you're limited to the summer, the prices will tend to be higher for obvious reasons. Your best shot at finding good deals (award or not) will be to search and book as far in advance as you can. Deals do exist "last-minute" (about a month or so in advance), but those are difficult to find and can get snatched up quickly. Absolutely abuse FlightConnections, searching backwards by finding the best routes from your destination, and book a positioning flight if necessary. Far and away my favorite tool and its completely free. Like Julia, I've found aggregator sites like Roame and Award Hacker to be a waste of time, and regularly find much, much better returns searching on my own. For example: This year I'm getting to Stockholm for about 20k pts and 95 bucks - 90 of these were to purchase a ticket connecting me to Stockholm from Paris. I'm also getting to Tokyo for about 25k and 90 bucks - you guessed it - those 90 are just to position myself in SEA to catch the crazy deal from there to Haneda on Delta (by booking through Virgin). I earn points with my Chase trifecta and Capital One duo over the course of the year on regular spending and have always generated more than enough to take "free" international flights multiple times a year. The skills Julia is showing here absolutely work.

We used 73,500 points one way economy comfort from Amsterdam to SFO nonstop. I wish I could have waited longer to book the return flight but I was too nervous to wait for a better deal.
