    Your video gives me some confidence. I have a 2011 ninja 250 that i got at a dealership yesterday. And I'm definitely a big noob. I got down first gear for the most part. But the two times i tried to shift to 2nd gear the bike would jerk and stalled. Did that several times. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe not Shifting into 2nd but nuetral? Not pushing up fully on the peg? Letting off the gas? Wish i knew someone that could test ride it. I'll give it a try again tomorrow. I'm still trying to get used to the brakes sensitivity and shifting smoothly. The jerking is a big concern.

  • @NicheRiding

    @NicheRiding

    8 жыл бұрын

    sheheryar rafi you can honestly do either, however if you are downshifting, it will help to slow you down gradually and in case the light goes green or you need to get out of danger, your already in a low enough gear to gun it. I usually downgear when I am coming to a traffic light although once in awhile I will gear down at a light, still, much easier than sitting there clicking through 5 gears at a light.

    great video, but one question - when you got o full stop, and you said you downshifted after you stopped, this means even if i am in 3rd gear, i can go to full stop BEFORE downshifting to the 1st? I do not have to downshift as i am slowing down into a stop?

  • @JkennGG

    @JkennGG

    Жыл бұрын

    A bit late, but yes you can come to a full stop AS LONG as you are holding in the clutch. If you don't hold in the clutch while you brake to a complete stop, and you aren't downshifting, the engine will bog and most likely die because it's not in the right gear. So if you fully press in the clutch, it doesnt matter what gear you are in because the engine is completely disengaged!

    +Antonio Enriquez individual, let's say the light goes green, you can then just start accelerating straight away again! Or, say someone cuts in front of you etc, you might want to power out of the situation and go around. Besides, downshifting will give you the engine braking to increase your stopping ability.

    +Maximillian Schwarz yes you can, its just like a car, but if you shift too high the bike will have a hard time getting moving, just a bit slower to speed up.

    Hey Niche, I Gotta ask, since you seem like you know what you're talking about. I've been driving a V8 Mustang for about 3 years now and am very comfy with manually shifting, and am used to that touchy throttle response of shifting in bigger power engines, though much different compared to a bike. I was wondering if you would advise against a Ninja 650R for a starter. I have driven a 2012 Ninja 300 a couple times and I'm just too big for that bike being 6'3, I just don't fit very well. I plan to a be a "Grandma" on my bike So I'm planning on very responsible riding, just looking for something to ride with my friends and save on some Mpg compared to my 5.0. I've sat on, but not driven a 2013 650R and it just feels so much more comfortable being just that tad bigger. Would it be an iffy move starting straight out with that much power?

    +Jesse Hays the 650 would be perfect for you, you think its going to be fast like a super sport 600 but its not, totally different engine and not near the speed! You would be used to it very fast!

    What rpm would you normally change gears at going up and down? And at regular cruise speed, say 40 mph, what would the desirable rpm be?

    so when you break while in 2nd gear or 3rd gear ect.. when you are fully stopped in 2nd gear, do you have to put it in neutral before you take off again?

  • @NicheRiding

    you would have to get back to 1st gear again, a good way to do this is downshift while coming to a stop light or stop sign.

    So, I am a beginner rider, I have taken my MFS test and passed! Super excited!!! I purchased a Ninja 300 and the first time rode it, it did a wheelie. What did I do wrong? I am so afraid to get back on because of I do not want it to do a wheelie. Help please! The video was great and thank you for posting!

  • @NicheRiding

    @NicheRiding

    you probably gave it too much gas and had the clutch still pulled in and when you dumped the clutch, it gave the bike full throttle which of course would pop a wheelie:) You're already a pro then! hehe Just let go of the clutch very slowly until you get the feel of how much gas you need to give it! Super easy, then adjust the throttle accordingly.

    Do you move your foot out and in to downshift? Like if you go in second, I guess you have your foot under the little bar after pushing it slightly to the top, so I guess you have to move it on top of it again to downshift? Hope to get my license one day.

  • @NicheRiding

    MarshallRawR yah to go up I have to move my foot under the shifter to pick it up into the next gear. yah if you plan to downshift you just pull your foot out and then have to step down on it.

    +Haozhe Xu that has all to do with counter steering, i do have a video on that! Going around cones are just like objects on the road so you have to use counter steering to dodge and weave those objects.

    I just got my ninja 250 but the engine is busted and I'm a car mechanic so I understand some stuff but would you recommend i go to a bike specialist to fix it or is it simple enough to where I can give it a try

  • @NicheRiding

    @NicheRiding

    +Isreal Mendez I would, I don't know anything about fixing bikes. I would drop it off at a highly rated motorcycle shop and let them fix it properly. My old Honda is at the mechanic right now getting the AC fixed in it. I told him do it right so it lasts for another 10 plus years! I am a firm believer in paying a bit more now and not regretting it later.

    Orange Osceola safety institute. There are also many other companies in the area though, one near the Florida mall and one at the Easy Rider place right on the 528.

    Kinda late, but can you stay in first or second gear at a red light but just hold the breaks? Or would you go to neutral and pop it in first ahen its green?

  • @NicheRiding

    @NicheRiding

    6 жыл бұрын

    you can do that for sure, the "proper" answer is to stay in first at a red light so you can go when it goes green or something happens you have to move fast. Many people though just pop it in neutral at the light so they can take their hands off of the steering bars.

  • @NicheRiding

    starting is just learning the "grab" point of the clutch when it starts to move you forward, you slowly let off of the clutch until you are in a full roll. Shifting you can shift as soon as the engine begins to get loud if you want unless you really want to wind it up and go fast! :)

    I usually downshift all the way down to at least 2nd before coming to a stop, then kicking it down to 1st unless I am just going so freaking slow I can get down safely into 1st gear.
