    So glad you're from the UK. You might be the only AI artist on YT that's not from the US! Can you do another canvas tutorial showing the use of blow dryers/heat guns so that we can see if the inks behave the same way as they would on YUPO? And also using metallics, and whatever technique one would use on YUPO basically. Thank you!

    Very encouraging to see your post here. I have a local paint store here in Memphis called Ferrel Calhoun who makes a competitor to Kiltz II. I bought a pint on a whim a couple years ago just to see if I could make a canvas act like Yupo. Never got around to experimenting and so with your KZread here I'm encouraged to do so now. Part of the fun of Alcohol inks is to find ones own methods and canvas can be a more an economical option now because of your instructions here. Thanks for you help. I also see where Grafix has a new "Opaque White Plastic Craft Plastic" too.

    I'm so pleased it's encouraged you to go and try it out. I suppose any kind of water/stain blocker should work really. I don't see why it would only be Kilz 2. I love that you can use alcohol inks on canvas. It's such a beautiful medium and I love seeing it on a bigger scale. I hope you have fun experimenting 😁

    I'm not sure how the inks will look on top of epoxy, I haven't tried it. You could try it on a really small section of epoxy but then you would need to seal it again after with epoxy. Most water repelling paints should roughly work with this technique, it doesn't need to be this particular brand.

    Only if used in a larger amount and deliberately agitated across the primer with the intent of removing it, surely? Also, I don't know anyone who applies AI with a brush! This minuscule amount of alcohol ink just skirting lightly over the surface of the dried primer won't do anything. If it did, countless artists around the world would've seen their work rapidly deteriorate, as BIN and other similar primers are used by many AI artists.

    Inks can vary in time to dry depending on what surface you do them on but if you are using alcohol inks then they shouldn't take too long to dry because the alcohol will evaporate very quickly. • @EmmaRave

    @EmmaRave

    2 жыл бұрын

    A few ideas to help you with this - sand down the canvas before you start. It could be that the texture on the canvas is causing this to happen. Another idea is to use a foam roller instead of a brush to create an even texture. You could also paint a layer of standard white primer underneath before you use the BIN primer to help with taking away some texture. Lastly, make sure you mix the primer really really well - like maybe 5 minutes as it could be that it is not mixed properly and is separating on the canvas. I hope that helps ☺️👍🏻

    That's nice, awesome. Should the alcohol used be always 99/ or can we have lesser combination also 77/ ? What the impact of high percentage of alcohol and low..?

  • @EmmaRave

    @EmmaRave

    3 жыл бұрын

    I would suggest using 90% or above. You can use 70% however you might not get all the lovely effects that the higher percentage of alcohol will give. This is because the lower percentage will have a mixture of water and oil in it which can affect the overall "look"and blends of the inks.

    I'm really sorry but I don't know. I've never used it before but I'm assuming it wouldn't react well with the inks - it will probably push them away (dispel them) but maybe it would work if you are usually it on the painting once the ink has dried.

    Soooo... the BIN primer we have in the USA lol it’s VERY common actually lmao! We have it in multiple kinds like water based 123, shellac, and oil based lol BIN primer is manufactured by rust-Oleum! And before that, it was created by William Zinsser who is from Germany and came to the USA back in the 1800s and showed Americans what shellac based priming was all about 🙆🏽‍♀️🙂 haha! I work for rustOleum which is the only reason why I know the background 😂😂 great video btw!! Xoxo

    Yes you’d basically need to create a plastic surface for alcohol inks. I’d be curious if any ole spray paint would work to. Not a primer spray paint but just a good one like krylon. You just need something that stops the wood from absorbing the ink. Same with canvas.
