Beautiful piece Debra! Do you ever watch your videos and think ‘oh, wish I had stopped at this point’? I love working with alcohol inks and sometimes get so into the process that I take that one extra step and wish I’d have stopped. The beauty of the inks is that if I feel like I overstepped, I just keep going and something else wonderful happens. 😁 Hope you survived the lovely weather these past few days. Whew!

@@debralynrosenbachart it’s a beautiful piece. And thank you for this and your other replies. I believe when I posted this comment I was thinking about how great it was you were using a large canvas. I hadn’t known there was a way to treat a fabric canvas to work with a more liquid and fluid medium, like your alcohol ink, and it got me thinking about trying a treated canvas with watercolors. 🙂

Thanks so much Liz. I have yet to try the other two methods you’ve mentioned, so I’m not sure. Things get very wet, so it has to hold up and be ver smooth, plus lessen the texture on the canvas a bit. You want things smooth.

Lol. So many times I was telling you to step away from the canvas because you had something beautiful... and you’d pour on more colour or alcohol. The end result does indeed look like blurred waves crashing. I must admit I loved the more smoky clouds look you had a few times there, but that’s just me. Although I went back & zipped back & forth through it & I do really like the end result. Especially if the side closest to you is the top as it looks like a wave folding towards us

  • @debralynrosenbachart

Alcohol ink is made with a combination of ink and alcohol. When you dispense the product from the tube you use a high percentage 91% isopropyl alcohol to activate it and get it to move. The higher the percentage of alcohol the better, you need faster drying time, which results in better results. You must do this in well ventilated area! I was in garage with car door open. I hope that helps.

Love your painting. I have found that the white alcohol ink will only mix when I apply the blending solution .I mixed it separately with a little blending solution and it was okay ,but if I applied it on top of a painting that had isopropanol in it the white would not spread fluently yet again ,So I am under the impression now that the white will only mix with the bought blending solution and not on any paintings that has isopropanol in it .?

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Karen, yes! 20+ years of interior, I just retired from it to now pursue my art. This piece is currently hanging over a bed in a model home. As for painting, you have to prep your canvas as I state in the video. And the fluid that disperses the ink is 91% isopropyl alcohol, no water! The higher the % of isopropyl the quick it drys. I prefer 91% this is a ton of fun to do, but it’s best done in your garage with the garage door up for lots of ventilation. Plus it’s really messy, put a tarp down and then lot of old towels…you’ll need them!

Hi Debra. I love your work. I want to work on canvas but I can't find the product to give to the canvas. Could you tell me exactly the name and what product it is. Is it Resin? I would appreciate your clarification. A greeting.

Not the creator but thought would answer. Any size canvas would work as size doesn't affect movement. The surface its what is important. She preps surface with 2 coats of KILZ 2

The canvas is first treated with Kilz2. Then I put the alcohol ink down and add 91% isopropyl alcohol to make it move…NO WATER

The problem with metallic alcohol inks is that they will not move. They have actual pigments in there (mica powder) therefore I recommend not using it unless you want spots or lines that sit on top :)

No, you need a bearer, this ink will sink into the canvas, I’m not sure Gesso will be enough. Use Kilz2 latex primer found at your local hardware store.
