Tutorial - Create a Lapbook Using Old Books - Part 1

Welcome back to my channel.
I have wanted to make a Lapbook for a while, I did start making a cover a long time ago but got distracted and forgot about it!
But today I thought it was time. It is going to be a little bit of everything, not one theme. I have found some pretty scrapbook papers and Tim Holtz papers, so starting with them and a few scrap pieces of my digital papers.
I am making the cover and I have had a go at adding in a flippy thing. So, so far so good, carry on tomorrow.
I would like to say a BIG thank you to you all that have supported me through ko-fi. It is such a big help in keeping my KZread channel and making the Friday Freebies.

"If you don't make messes, you never get anything accomplished right." It took the Army and my grandfather being a dean of a university to get that thru my head as I got older. He was right, progress isn't always perfectly neat and clean. I love this lap book and can't wait to see how it turns out

I haven't made a lapbook for such a long time. And using old readers digest books is just the right size for something like this!! So many ideas of things to make and never enough time to make them all!!! I am going to watch the next video as I am very interested in where you will take this one. Great ideas Gi..... you never fail to surprise!!

How serendipitous. I have the makings of a lap Journal all glued together. But I have never gone back to it and now you have inspired me. Mine is going to be a journal about all the beautiful places in the world. Because now that I have the time and the money to travel I'm no longer able to. So I am going to make me a large Journal of beautiful places that I can sit and enjoy in my old age now. Looking forward to see how yours turns out. Blessings and love from New Mexico

I love it when our say you are making a big mess. Then I know it will be gorgeous. When my father was cooking family holiday meals he would always say “ gosh I hope this is going to be fit to eat”. We would cheer and say that was how dinner would be delicious. I miss him. I can’t wait to see how you finish this masterpiece. Hugs, treen 💕💕💕

I love how detailed your video is for a technique I've never seen. I must confess to being worried when you first started applying the ink to the cover, but wow! it looked great. I'm going to binge watch all 3 of the episodes you have posted thus far. I can't wait to get to a thrift store to find some books I can use to make my own lapbook. Thanks!

I've not seen a lapbook before. I'm finding it so interesting to watch but can you tell me the end purpose of a lapbook and what the difference is between it and a journal? Yes, I know that most journals are open sided like a regular journal but I've also seen some really small journals that fold closed too. I read your comments below and from students was not where my mind went when it came to the origin. I can see plenty of uses for a closed book like this.... In my mind I'm thinking that I'd like to make one and insert an example of all of the wonderful embellishment ideas you given us. I've collected the items for using the UV resin, putting together beaded dangles and charms, the stickling, the sequins, the embroidering, you name it........ you've hooked me. I thoroughly enjoyed your off-the-cuff presentation today. It allows us to see the true process you go through which helps us all. I know that I sometimes think no that won't work and then it does....... so seeing you do the same thing is encouraging. I hope that you and Andy are enjoying your holiday......... spend some time in that wonderful weather for me.

Hello Gi, one person/KZreadr comes to mind when you said lap book -- Nik the Booksmith has done a couple of different sets of lap book tutorials. I'm sure I could probably find them, but I'm not sure (at this moment) if I could find a way to share them with you. We shall see. And I'm sure their are other KZreadrs that's done a lap book. This is going to be interesting. Thanks for sharing your time, talents and inspirations. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas

Very intriguing! How are we going to use our lapbook? Looking around, I see lapbooks for children's work storage, for home educators, etc. I'm loving the way the books fold together (I'll be charity shop hunting tomorrow for some books), but I'm just wondering what our end game is?❤

Hi Diana, I believe it originally came from students. They would make a folder with notes, diagram etc and keep it on there lap when studying. So crafters and journalers took the idea and added a little bit more. Like tuck spots, flips, flaps, pockets etc as we do! That's my understanding of them. Hope that helps. Hugs Gi x
