I’ve been knitting socks for years, but have never attempted this heel. You’ve done a great job of explaining the process. I especially like that you have shown that the side holes can easily be prevented. Thanks!

Thank goodness I have come across this video! It’s exactly what I am looking for, for my Christmas stockings!! So well explained and simple, thank you xx
This was the best video and I actually understand it and purchased the pattern. Thank you!
Hi from New Zealand. Great tutorial. I have been avoiding cut in afterthought heels. But I won’t anymore! Thanks so much! Loving your podcasts. Especially the kids knits. Keep up the great work!
Been terrified for years....thank you for a brilliant tutorial, I'm now going to give it a try!
So well explained and equally clearly shown - if there were knitting Oscar's this would be a winner!
Brilliant to incorporate the stitches to be cut into the pattern -no guess work! Very clear tutorial!
I really like how you said that I am in complete control of the yarn after snipping… I needed to hear that to bolster my courage before attempting this! 😂 thanks for the tutorial!

Thank you Emily!!! We are the masters of our yarn 😂 good luck!!! X
Lovely! I have no clue in the world of how to knit, but this makes me think I could follow along and not be stressed out!
I have so many balls of self striping sock yarn and haven’t been brave enough to start them since I wanted to do an afterthought heel. This video is so straightforward and can’t wait to try it!
Omg, best tutorial ever!
I’ve once tried an afterthought heel with a scrap yarn technique and that was an awful and poorly fitting sock attempt. With this tutorial I want to give it another go! Well explained! 🤩
A brilliant afterthought heel tutorial Laura, thank you. I will let you know how I get on. Xx
Very helpful thank u!
Super clear and pleasant to watch!! Thank you x
I adore these socks!
You make that look so easy! Blessings from Greece
So excited to try this! Thank you❤
Thank you this is exactly what I needed!
Great tutorial Laura. Thanks for sharing 💕
Wow, nicely done - thanks!
Thank you for a great explanation on how to do this as well as magic loop. 😊
Great tutorial! Can't wait to try your pattern
a very clear description, thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial Laura. Just finishing my socks and they are so pretty!
Fantastic tutorial 👍
Great video, very confidence inducing! 💪🏻🤣
Great video, you made this look so simple! Thank you!!!
Wonderful tutorial! Can't wait to try this on my next pair of socks. You have taken the terror out of cutting into my knitting.
Thankyou Laura very clear
Wonderful tutorial. I came here to get the technique down to include on my new sock pattern! Thank you!
Great explanation, I will try this on my next socks!
thank you for sharing, nice video. I like the pattern of the socks.
Hi again! As I mentioned in my last comment I'm knitting a Christmas stocking which I want to hang from the mantle like the short sock on left. My vision before viewing this video was that the BOR would be on the right side running up the heel to cuff. BUT after watching your video many, many, many times (your video is great, it's me...hard time visualizing) I finally realized that the BOR would be in the BACK of stocking when hanging (or on the inside if worn as a L foot sock)! Thought before I knit the complete stocking I would work a little past the heel placement and take a leap of faith and knit the heel so I could see it visually...so far so good...will let you know how it comes out. Thanks again!
Ótima explicação....,🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very good tutoriel 😊
Wow I come here for some help and realize it’s you Laura! Love your insta!
Oh my!! That looked quite painless. Thank you very much. I’ve bought the cornicette pattern, so will be doing colour work and afterthought heel for the first time 🥴 Will have to get my concentrating head on xx

You did an excellent job explaining how to do this and demonstrating it! I have a sock I have to do this to and have put it off for over a year cuz it's just nerve wracking to think about doing it. Maybe now I'll be brave enough to give it a go! There are other tutorials that I've watched but.....💖 Thank you! 💖 I've saved your tutorial.

Never tried it but perhaps now I will 🙂
I really liked your no holes formula. I really struggle with that. I do wish I could have watched you weave in your short ends. 😢 I will give this a tryout. Thank you.
Great video. I would appreciate a bit more explanation about the length size of the sock and how to measure accurately. Almost done my first.. thanks for this cute pattern!
Brilliant explanation, you did great. You must do more teaching videos ❤️

Thank you carol! I have a list of future tutorial ideas that will probably run along side future patterns! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm so glad I came across your video! I'm knitting Christmas stockings and am ready to knit the heel...found your video and want to try THIS particular after thought heel...I've knitted other ATHs, but I like this one! My stocking is worked from cuff to toe in the round. Your video was very clear and informative...with that being said I have a hard visualizing this. If I understand this process correctly whereas my stocking is placed with toe at top, the BOR is on the right and I begin picking up stitches from that point, will the heel be on the right and foot placement on left and BOR on the right when I'm done? I know you address this at beginning of video, but I have a hard time visualizing this. Thank you again for your knowledge and expertise!

It can be hard to visualise, I struggle with that too, but it should be the same for bottom up in that if your bor is in the right and you start there, it will be your left sock as you will flip it to wear it. If your bor is in the left (so you have knit across half of your sock stitches) then when you flip it it will be your right sock x
Nicely done! Here's something that I have long been wondering...what is the advantage to this type of heel? Why not do the traditional heel flap and gusset? Inquiring minds!
@_laurapenrose_
2 жыл бұрын
Great question! So maintaining colour work throughout the heel and gusset method is really difficult, so it’s usually much easier to do an afterthought heel, you also get a more traditional looking sock which is one of the reasons I like it. You could also do a short row heel or a shadow wrap heel but I like how you can just do all the colour work or patterning without having to stop for the heel! Hope that helps!! X
Lovely video! Two questions: regarding the 2 stitches you leave in place on either side of the row you are unpicking to place the afterthought heel at, what do you do with them? I see you will weave in the ends but where are they next worked up in the afterthought heel construction? And what is the needle you are using for Magic Loop (needle circumference and cord length - those cords look very flexible without being floppy or stiff) - thank you!

I no longer have those needles so I can’t be 100% sure and don’t know the cable length but they were definitely KnitPro! The stitches left over either side of the cut are attached to the tails you weave in so nothing happens them! Weaving in the ends keeps them in place. X

@@_laurapenrose_ I bless you with my extra sock mojo overflow because finding your video today really turned the heat up on knitting socks, I cannot wait to do my first stranded pair and the afterthought heel is truly genius. Thank you so much! I have been enjoying 9" circs but since I will be trying out stranded yarn, I may revert to DPNs which are really familiar, though I thought magic loop looked pretty smart! No matter what, I am in it to win it and am keenly motivated to dive in!
This looks so complicated but I am sure it is not once I get started. My question is how do I start from the beginning. What size needles, how many cast on and how long do I make it before I put in the after thought heel and toe. Thanks. Maybe you have another tutorial for all my questions.

Do you knit around and at each end front half and back half we decrease? Then what did you close with?

Yes that’s right, then Kitchener stitch.

Quick question.. I am making the toe now. And not sure what do you mean by repeating firs row twice. After k2tog k1. Please explain.
