Man I don’t have the option ( the little spiral) of attaching the null object

Don't worry, just right click on the top of the panel and you can select EACH SINGLE OPTION to appear or dissapear there. To get this little spiral, you just right click where it says Source Name etc. and select COLUMNS > PARENT. Once the parent column is available you will be able to parent between layers.
