TURR HUNTING IS A POPULAR NEWFOUNDLAND SPORT WHICH PROVIDES A TASTY MEAL ENJOYED BY MANY. They are the only migratory bird in Canada which you are allowed to shoot from a moving boat. Rough water and cold weather make this a particularly difficult hunt even though the bird are often numerous. It is not uncommon to use multiple boxes of shells to get 20 birds.

I often compare turr hunting as to going to war with regards to the amo that you need. Single shot......no good.......pump action.....no good......semi....all the way baby.......It was a geat turr trip for sure.....thanks for sharing.

Turr hunting seems different to say the least ! I’ve never done it but I plan too. I have eaten turr one time, my buddy gave me turrs and told me to cook them up, not knowing anything about the bird I seasoned them spatchcocked them and pan fried them, I almost threw up when I tasted it🤣 my buddy thought I was an idiot, because apparently you’re supposed to boil them🤣🤣I need a redemption on that !!

My Wife cooks them as part of a cooked dinner, same as you would a chicken. Got to say they are not bad like that. If I can get out again this week, I'm going to can some.

There must be a different laws in Newfoundland about operating a boat under power while discharging a hunting gun

You are allowed to shoot turrs from a powered moving boat using lead shot. only turrs. If you happen to shoot a duck you have to be anchored and are not even allowed to have lead shot in the boat. cheers
