Turning Plastic Waste into 100% Recycled Tiles ♻️
Ойын-сауық
By popular request we're showing you our process of making 100% recycled plastic coasters, with a particular focus on how the moulds work. These are made from 100% post-consumer plastic waste that we collect, clean, dry, sort, shred and inject using our injection moulding machine. These could also be used for tiling, which we really want to try in a future video!
We've had about 20 giant bags of milk bottles sat in our shed for a good few months now, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to shred through the lot of them. For everyone's sake we didn't show all of them otherwise this video would have been MUCH longer. Obviously not everyone has these machines to make these themselves, but we've got another video on our channel we shows you how to make coasters using super basic tools: bit.ly/2TWGdaD
But if you don't fancy cracking our your panini press then these coasters are for sale on our website over at www.brothersmake.com/shop/p/c...
If you are interested in the machines we use in this video, then head on over to www.plasticpreneur.com and see what they're all about.
We hope you enjoy the video!

I'm curious, how many coasters can you make in a day? Or better question, if you mix the pre-ground plastic together from start to finish how long do the three coasters take to make?

Hey brothers make, I'm really liking y'all guys project, really beautiful stuff, i just one question, how much did plastic preneur machines cost?
@BrothersMake
2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the grade of HDPE we are using, a full hopper takes between 5-9 minutes to melt. Then maybe 2 minutes to inject and refill. The demoulding can be done whilst the next batch is melting to save time, so roughly 10 minutes for 3 coasters. All our colours are pre mixed, we just did one from scratch for this video ☺️☺️

If those hexagons were a little thinner they would be awesome as game board tiles, like the ones in Catan. You guys are doing an amazing job! Do you keep any sort of record of how much plastic you've recycled so far? It would be great to know how much plastic hasn't ended up in the ocean or landfills thanks to you and your community.

Love these! I'd like to see this turned into flooring.
This could also be a really cool looking table top for a side/end, nightstand, dining table inlay. I can also see making a stool top with these and trimming the excess for recycling.

I would love a whole wall tiled with these, just gorgeous. Your work for the environment is absolutely fantastic. thank you, you are a true inspiration. your videos and work should be shown in schools.
Guys you are really inspirational. Thank you for taking recycling so seriously!!
I enjoy the diy videos of recycling plastic. These videos make me feel like I’m watching the inside of a small scale injection molded plastic factory. Normal people don’t have those tools.

That's what I came here hoping for. I mean you could tile and grout these right? One side would be better NOT to be so smooth, but wow, wouldn't it look great? Or for a backsplash??? Wouldn't that work? If one side had the grooves in it to catch the mastic???❤😊

Guys, there is a reason why bathroom tiles are actual tiles of ceramic/stone/marble.
Very cool! Something I don't understand is why plastic waste isn't melted down into logs or bricks and then used to make sheds or even houses. Especially, for tiny homes for people who are without a home.
Backsplash tiles for kitchen or bath. Will have to play with that idea... Thanks Guys!

Hi. Really got into plastic recycling after watching your videos. Made my own slab mould this morning and trying it out. Cheers. Paul in Essex but from Bournemouth originally
I just found your channel today and I'm loving this reuse of plastic. I'm glad you dont burn the stuff to use it because there is a video floating around saying you can recycle bottles into pathway stones but they use a temperature so high it releases black smoke and I'm like I thought it was to reduse pollution.
These would make excellent coasters!

Amazing! I wish i had one of this machines!
I saw the thumbnail and thought the tiles looked nice which prompted to me to watch the video, but I was not prepared for how beautiful they were when you opened the mould! Everyone slightly different swirls and patterns!
Hello Brothers Make, I started to see your videos, they are very good and they made me excited to work with plastic, thanks and greetings from Argentina
BRO this is so good because hexagons are GOATED. you can make so much stuff with this :O
Hi, I like your idea of making plastic products using recycled plastic materials. I am a Fashion student and sometimes on my second year I have used the idea of reusing plastic on my project. So, good luck and wishing more to see great ideas like this!
Complimenti, sembrerebbe quasi una dimostrazione di ciò che si può fare con la raccolta della differenziata inerente la plastica. Cose utili e necessarie. Grazie. Sabrina 😃👍🏼👋🏼
That's a pretty smart solution
Hiya fellas ! Those coasters are cool and we are waiting on a mold for making them too . I also finished a completed mallet and even finished the handle with stain :) Have a great day

Been a fan of plastic for a long time, Built the Granulator that Precious plastics designed. Never been used. Just after building it i had to move and its been in storage for the past 4 years. Still collecting HDPE, Now I'm thinking it's time to do something with it.

My situation is the same. I've moved multiple times, started studies, finished studies, started a company, got into trouble with being scammed, lost motivation, stopped the company, regained motivation, and now I'm looking for a job so I can afford a place to live and not feel like shit. I really hope I find the time to start recycling again.

Hi, this is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of, using these on a more extensive basis such as bathroom, mosaic tiles or splashback. Do these work/hold in grout or how would that work? Has anyone asked about using these as bricks and whether there is a substance that can be used to hold them in place if they are suitable. Not very fire safe I would imagine
@barbarahallowell2613

I think you'd want onside to have some grooves, or not be smooth so they can grab the mastic when tiling. Other than that I don't see how they wouldn't work.
Wow 😮
This was amazing! I'm quite behind on your videos but I have some potential ideas for recycling as well. 1. Turning them into (kid-friendly) weapons 2. Armor/ apparel 3. (Juggling) Balls 4. Totes/storage boxes 5. Phone cases? 6. Cup holders? I'm still Workshopping ideas but I thought it'd be fun and useful for the stuff I listed.

I've always been and was thought to recycle. And looking at your video/instruction I wish I have the machines to make different usefull products. Did you make the machines and where can I get the machines ??? Plastic we have enough on this tiny island where I live. Your work is super. And thank you very very much for sharing. Keep up the good work. Hope more and more people on this planet can join you in recycling. (I'm one of them whom really would love to).
Definitely cool, Look like Milk Jugs were used. Definitely like the concept of trash to cash to save the environment, I don't have an injecting machine but I have a heat gun so I could make Milk jug skulls. Cool video
Been a fan, hope you can make a PLASTIC HOLLOW BLOCK, it will be good as replacement of traditional hollow blocks waiting for the video of that.

You know what would a good (but obscure) idea for a KZread crossover? Brothers make + City prepping Will probably never happen, but I can see how this would fit together
Quick question would it work if you made a beam and then just sliced the tiles up?
You should try to make your own 100% recycled 3d printing filament (if you haven't already) and then you can print more complicated objects without having to make molds.
Is that an electric shredder? Im trying to build my own so I’m wondering, if it is electric, what rpm is the drive motor?
Nice work love how the coasters turned out . Where did you get your machines ?

do these coasters warp over time?
Where did you get the plastic shedder and plastic melter and the forms for the coasters/tiles from??? I want them!!!!! I am an up-cycle crafter too(well at least I’m trying to learn).
I’ve just discovered this awesome hobby and have been loving the experimentation and imagination process. Unfortunately, I’ve also noticed the tops of my hands have become red and itchy; nothing on the fingers or palms. This started around the same time I was running detergent bottles through the scroll saw and melting the pieces in the toaster oven. Has anyone here ever heard of an allergic reaction the HDPE after it is cut and melted?
