What really bothers me about the new characters is that ALL the body shapes are very bottom/mid heavy.. I'm gonna miss the old models mainly for the fact that they were slender and actually had some waist definition (and that they didn't have these weird new idle animations.. seriously why can't my character just chill for like 2 seconds without randomly looking off into the distance, it looks so dumb 😭) also… I just logged in and they changed the lighter brown hair color to have these jarringly blonde highlight strips? Why couldn’t they leave it alone, man

The characters needed change but this, after 2 years, feels rushed and unfinished. They tell you "create yourself how you feel" and then give us like 6 bodys and 10 faces. I thought we'd get a bit more creative freedom, like being able to select noses, eyes etc. as single entities and not just a couple pre-made stuff, same with the body, they should have given us a slider, which would have been better. Like I'm a skinny hourglass shape and that simply doesn't exist, there are no curves at all as a matter of fact... That being said, I do like the hair.

Totally agree w u. Like the new ones feel so unfinished and we look like fricking 11 or something. I just wished they made a skinny and curvy one cause non of those we have look like mine. Also the run looks so goofy and I prayed that they make it look normal but the old one was way better :( . And they should have made the body types look older and not like little kids. Since we are a soulrider we should like atleast be close to the age of the others. The soulriders look now way older that us and it just feels even more like we arent actually one of them and were supposed to be close friends. But I like the hair too its really well done

I feel like the first thing they should have done was update the old body type of the older characters and maybe I’m butthurt because that was my body type but this is absolutely ridiculous I feel like they think skinny people are just a concept and not real these characters don’t even look like humans they should have skinnier face options and just suck it up and make male characters because this is like looking at an alien it’s not really feminine and it’s not really masculine I just see a toddler. I’m not asking for sims level customization but I’m asking for actual representation like they’re trying to advertise. They’re also hiding behind people wishing they looked like her but at the same time I’m not seeing any way a person could look like that. I saw the updated soul riders and dark riders and I was excited and I basically just saw pure disappointment at the spoilers. I would have preferred waiting an extra year for those other body types and I want skinnier faces. I’m not sure why they didn’t make a skinny, moderate, and heavier body type and then work on the in betweens. They took the idea of not wanting people to wish they looked like “her” too seriously considering there is barely any inclusivity. I love the diversity of skin shades, eye colors, and facial features but the faces don’t really have many options for the shapes instead of the noses or the mouths. I do prefer the older characters simply because it had my body type. And I know not everyone does but it feels like they stripped away something I had instead of updating it and throwing it in with the rest of the updated body types. And as someone with longer legs this is not representative at all to anyone. And they are catering to a kids body type? (I don’t even know what they are anymore) but what happens when those kids grow out of those body types? I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be playing as a kid and I especially don’t now! I’ve been playing for over a decade and maybe I’m being too critical but considering they knew there would be a lot of bugs proved that they weren’t really finished and rushed out to begin with. And why did they change horses animations that no one was complaining about. It’s absolutely absurd. People can be objectively “attractive” it’s not like they don’t exist. “Pretty” people exist and skinny people exist I don’t know what they were trying to say, because while trying to cater to a specific audience they were also throwing away another one in the process. This isn’t diversity it’s just an insult, almost like salt in a already existing wound. All the other soul riders look older and walking around looking like a child doesn’t even make sense plot wise considering they went to Jorvik for summer but then made the decision to stay, I don’t think a kid has the ability to decide to live somewhere on the spot after discovering they had abilities. I was already upset they got rid of older quests and changed the dialogue because newer quests brought up things I didn’t even know were happening simply because I played the older quests. This game is unfinished, yes, but I wish it was consistent. They’re trying to fix problems that don’t even exist like changing the horses animations too.

i understand technical limitations, but youre exactly right: a body slider and specific facial features would've been so much better. i really wish they didn't make this game mobile cuz we could've gotten so much more if the game stayed on desktop tbh. i think the new characters are pretty but theres just so much they did wrong.

I feel like the new characters are very customizable, but the problem is, the way they changed, the same clothes don't work on them anymore. Some clothes just don't look good on the new body, and I could sell more than 80% of my inventory as of how things are going now. They really nailed poc hair and skin colors, they look really good. I just wish they'd fix the character's proportions and give more options for body types, it would really help imo. And... Better hair styles. It's good that they updated them, but most, if not all of them didn't even keep the general shape it used to be.

@@babesatlas they certainly have more and wider range of customization options, especially compared to the previous player character. Also, they are still adding different body types. That being said, remember that this is a game developed by a team w tech dept that's targeted at younger audiences. Although, based on the money that's collected, they definitely could do better. I think they're doing the most they CURRENTLY can with the game, but you have to think about whether the game could or couldn't handle a more in-depth character creator when it comes to technicalities. I agree though, that we should have more options in both faces and body types. That are much needed.

@@inkxncharacter sliders have existed since 2000s. i’ve seen way older games with unreadable ancient code use sliders. they definitely can do it with their game engine, i just don’t think they want to rig sliders in their models (or no one in their team has the experience to do it)

@@slayfabihances are they didn’t want to update the topology of older clothing so in order to prevent clipping between the character they oversized it. there’s no other way around it, they’d have to update all the clothes to have the exact same topology as the model or a similar amount of edge loops. i’m gonna assume only newer clothes will be fitted properly by extrusion from the character mesh

I agree with pretty much everyone about the lack of body shapes. I am thin and short but have the "hourglass" type shape with a bit more "junk the trunk" and some boobage, lol, and the body types are all flat as boards with no shapelyness to them. And yeah they should have had sliders for body "thickness", and the ability to pick and customize our noses, lips, eyes, ect. There is so much more they could have done in the time they had. :(

the torsos are WAY too long compared to the legs. they absolutely are disproportionate like you said, and i am anxiously awaiting some changes to happen. it needs a lot of improvement, i just hope they treat this as a priority

I really like the customization options, but as a 2013 player, I can't help but feel some sort of way about all of the changes in the game recently including horse bonding. I will kind of miss the simplicity of my old character, but I think our proportions are way off now. We look massive on super large horse breeds regardless of body type. I'm not sure why star stable continues to rush things and release unfinished products. It will save them a lot of time and tweaking in the long run if they just took their time. I just hope they listen to their player base and continue to add improvements.

you can have no eyebraws, the first option. Also Arabian and Appy situation is a bug, they should fix this hopefully soon

​@@EmJ.806 Wrong file fetching within the code. Usually in code animations are like a file and you have the code fetch it and execute/play it when it's needed (at least from what I know). I actually don't know how that would happen but perhaps it was an easy typo since they had to adjust our character's animations based on the horse as well.

i actually liked our old characters bc like a lot of other horse games they are kinda plain compared to the horses which makes the horses the main focus without us being the horse itself. i also think bc the horses in the game were made to suit the old characters the new ones look rlly weird and out of place. i’m more upset that they devoted sm resources to the humans in a horse game especially with how much negative feedback ppl gave

I definitely understand the whole “I don’t have much attachment to the old characters because they never represented me to begin with” the new characters (despite all the problems they have right now) do enable players to have more methods of representation that wasn’t possible with the old avatars

And at the same time, many people I know (myself included) don’t feel represented at all with the new characters sadly. I feel kinda icky looking at the character I now have, I really don’t feel good about "myself" (aka my in game self) whenever I look at it. Don’t get my wrong to each their own, but I really don’t wanna look like these characters (not art style wise, but physique wise). 😕

Miss out in an update that should have given EVERYONE a character model that represents them. Irl I‘m a skinny person with boobs and an hourglass shape - and I don’t get, why I‘m not allowed to say something about me, my type of body, being not represented in game (anymore). I don’t get, why my feeling aren’t as valid now as the feelings of people, who were under / not represented for years. This update should not have excluded anyone from feeling represented in game. But it does. People have been criticising the characters for years - and now it’s not allowed anymore? Everyone should feel good in their body, irl and in game, skinny or not, with boobs or without, having a rectangle shape, apple or hourglass. And at the moment I don’t feel good in "my SSO body", just like many people have over the years. What makes my feelings less important, than anyone else’s?

@@TCGrey yea I understand the not feeling represented body type wise (my body for sure isn’t on SSOs current roster) But these new characters are, honestly an upgrade from the older ones…Now, hopefully SSO cracks down on some better shapes to keep everyone happy. But by “new methods of representation”, I mean skin color, face shape (though there’s truly no way to make a face look like YOU without multiple sliders/editors etc) that’s something we haven’t had for years, individuality. Everyone’s older characters looked exactly the same compared to everyone else’s, and to be frank its…boring…especially after seeing these same characters for years on end. Granted that’s my own opinion on the old models, because I’ve never been even remotely attached to them at all, and I’ve been playing since 2016. It’s really nice to see that everyone’s characters at the moment are different. Everyone’s unique in their own right, which is hopefully a positive for everyone. And of course, this doesn’t mean your opinion is invalidated, far from it actually because it IS unfair to the people who don’t really feel like the current characters represent them, to kind of have to take it on a whim and pretend to be okay with it.

When I first saw the running animation, I was questioning "Why do they run like lose pigeons?"

I think they're most definitely a pretty big improvement, especially now that they BLINK. It always drove me insane how lifeless and soulless our characters looked because they just didn't blink. But of course, there's the riding animations. They're... not very good. When they gallop they don't put their hands on the horse's neck like it was intended to, they hold their hands way too far apart as if they're just learning how to ride, the legs not being on the stirrups, they post the trot extremely fast (even if the horse isn't even doing a fast trot), they put their hands on the side's of the horse's neck when they two point which is... weird. I mean, I personally put my hand's on the crest of the neck or closer to the withers whenever I jump, so maybe I'm just being biased here. And obviously, the lack of body shapes and body types, but people have been complaining enough about that, and did they listen? No. I do think they shouldn't have been released and they should have made more improvements and fixes on the characters because they still don't feel... finished. But even then, a much needed and still quite pleasant update despite the flaws. They're way better than the old ones.

Totally agree! And as for the jumping, I’ve always been taught to move my hands towards the horse’s ears to make it easier for the horse to stretch and make a better jump, on top of not risking to accidentally pull or injure the horse’s mouth and to learn to never rely on my hands/the reins for balance in the saddle; your balance should always be in your legs/seat. You don’t need to put your hands as far forward if the obstacle is low, but if it’s a taller one you definitely should. Most professional jumpers that actually know how to ride (oml I promise it sounds way more aggressive than I mean it to be-) will have their hands almost right behind the horse’s ears over the tall jumps to help their horses clear the obstacles without risking an accident/injury. I mean it’s hard for anyone to jump high with a good technique if you’re all tied together/held back (also yes, there’s multiple “professional” riders/jumpers who seemingly know nothing about how to actually ride and will flail over obstacles, pull harshly on the horse’s mouth to get balance etc.). But I do think that the hands could be moved closer towards the horse’s top line and go more towards the ears than the cheeks :,)

​@@freshtea9 What you said!! Depending on the height of the jump, my hands are either lower on the crest closer to the withers or higher on the crest closer to the ears. I don't put them on the side of the horse's neck because they'll just end up sliding and I'll bump my head against the crest, and also because I'll get yelled at for that. Another factor for me is how the horse jumps and how the neck of the horse is. I sometimes will ride a horse that tends to drag his front legs and dip his neck, and it has a natural arch so I see myself always putting them higher for better leverage and to allow better release on the horse. I feel like sso didn't really use any references on the two point whatsoever. I don't know who two points like that. The character looks like they just use their hands for balance because of the placement and it irks me so much haha. The balance comes from the legs, core, and hips, not the hands.

Same. They’re very, child-like, and muddy looking. Idk I had a special attachment to the old characters because it’s just old SSO, it’s what I grew up with, it’s what I’m used to. I also wish there were slimmer body types, individual nose shapes, lip shapes, heights, etc. The whole game just feels different and not in a good way. The new UI is mobile-like, the characters look like they came out of a mobile game (ever since both updates, my game is *insanely* laggy and crashing like crazy which shouldn’t be possible on a RTX 3060 card). For context: I haven’t played full-time since 2020, moved on to play rdr2 and haven’t come back except to buy new released horses and check out the updates. Kinda grew out of it I guess.

i feel like they rushed to release the new characters so soon, they should've taken a couple more months to really perfect them before releasing them and saying ''oh we'll fix them along the way'' like bye

I feel like part of why the characters feel so weird is because the heads are too big and the legs are too short. The legs don’t even need to be that much longer, but they’re short enough that it doesn’t look right. The head and legs are basic proportions that will look weird no matter how many body types and face shapes they add into the game. They also should have scaled the horses up with us. I think they wanted us bigger so we weren’t so tiny compared to the npc’s anymore, especially the newer ones, but now the horses are way off.

A little tip for you Denis (and anybody else who would like it), you can remove your make-up! Just go to your stable and interact with the mirror in that small room. Then, when you open the make-up change, there will be a button on the left to the camera angles which is currently glitched and says “P2_NO_MAKEUP”. Click it and you’re done! :)

im actually pissed about the Arabs. I spent money on those, and the fact thats sso just changed them without offering players a refund is horrible. I don't understand why they would change the animations of a breed that is widely loved in the community. like wtf.

They know they are safe from being sued up the A, and hacks and doxxing. They shouldn’t be if this is how they treat their players that pay them. But they know they are safe so they continue to do weird things that will negatively effect their game. However, I feel those horses will be fixed in the future. It could be a bug, if not that will suck.

I think when Sso was making the new Mustangs, they used the arabian and appaloosa as a base and possibly accidentally changed the gaits on the horses in the game. They will probably fix this because it has to be a mistake. They look awful with those gaits. I like the new characters so far, and I'm holding hope sso will add more options for us

theyre so big for the horses i almost feel bad for the jorvik ponys i wish sso took the time because WHAT ARE THEY DOING

They don't really care. There are glitches from about 2 years ago that never got fixed.

I hope that in future updates that they will add not only more body shapes (shape not how curvy or skinny/fat) but also add those with longer legs as some people have long legs compared to their torso and sso is not representing that. And animation wise i hope that they wil slightly change them so that it looks more realistic (some animations look like the animators forgot about factors like weight, volume, size and material) and add more subtle animations to our characters.

Old characters were crusty af but not as cringe as the new ones, we look like chubby uwu babies now and I hate it sadly.

They are genuinely a large improvement over the old characters. Yes, they could use some work, but I'd prefer these over the old any day. We have updated and nice hairstyles, more eye colors, separate eyebrow colors, 6 different body types instead of one now, and the animations are better. We finally blink! Not saying they're perfect, but a much-needed improvement. Keep in mind too that our characters are supposed to be young as to match the story (I think people forget that this is a story-driven game). Also, I think the appaloosa and arabian glitches aren't permanent and are being worked on.

After I did the change character I got jump scared by all these random ppl in my stable

Half of people like me can't even open the game cuz it freezes and stops responding while loading, but you can hear music you hear when you are in the game in the background... AND BRO I BOUGHT APPY ONLY FOR THAT PREVIOUS HARD STOP!!!

Personally there is no point in comolaining, star stable entertainment does not see us as players, but as cash cows. Ambassadors have to kiss the game's ass otherwise they're seen as horrible people. An ambassador literally said "sso does NOT have to listen to you" and "we're Lucky sso asks for feedback and listens". Sso has not listened to feedback In a LONG time

For the understanding, the Arabians and Appaloosa’s weren’t supposed to be changed. It came with the many glitches that were with the update. They are planning on fixing both horses gaits.

I can’t believe that people don’t believe that some of us actually liked the old characters. I personally loved the old character. yeah, the animations were a bit funky…but I actually thought mine was really likable.

As a riding instructor irl, here are some minor things I don't love: -the posting rider not only looks so forced (has to shoot out of the saddle) but who did they still manage to make them post off-beat with the trot? SSO, this was your time to finally change that after like a decade of it being an issue -this rider has the strongest lower leg in the game, without stirrups too! -the seated canter looks horny??? like the rider is realllyyy thrusting with the motion of the horse instead of following what is created, lmao Other notes: still super disappointed that there's so little customization in the body types/features. Why no separate sliders/options for chest, waist, butt? For eye shape, nose shape, lips, cheeks, etc?? I hate what they did to the Arabian's gaits EXCEPT for the really forward and happy-go-lucky looking canter/hand-gallop/gallop. I'm a fan of that.

I absolutly hate the toddler run that the updated character does

So much people are unhappy but my charachter got the biggest glow up known to man. She actually looks pretty now. Can't wait for them to add more body types and things like freckles and scars tho!

I think it'd be cool to add a feature like the sims 4, so we don't need to choose from pre-made faces but rather we can manually adjust every feature on the face. For example in the sims 4, using your mouse you can adjust the cheeks, jawline, eye size, space between the eyes, nose, lips, eyebrows, ears, etc.

I wish we had the old characters back. All the new characters keel on moving and they cant rest! The arabian and appaloosa heads look stiff, and the game continuously crashes. 😔

like starstable themselves said, they are still working on adjusting animations. they only did the main most important animations because of how impatient people were getting, i for one am very excited on how they are finally gonna rework and fix our old crusty emotes weve had for years now

I honesty wish they started by making the characters look more like the NPCs and THEN moved on to creating new body types and styles. You mentioned the legs a few times, and I think that is definitely the biggest issue proportion wise. SSO had to keep the legs the same length so the characters fit on their horses, but as the old character's weren't realistically anatomically correct either, the new designs don't work. Additionally, our characters used to be shorter/smaller then most of the NPC adults (as we're supposed to be what, teenagers?), but now we seem taller/older then some of them. Just feels like some things aren't adding up. And instead of really addressing these issues before designing the new characters SSO designed around what they already had. Which is fine, but a lot more work needs to be done!

sso said the appaloosa animation changes are a bug so they’re gonna go back to normal soon :)

i was pleasantly surprised that they changed the appaloosas stop to a sliding stop lmao

I love paints, qhs, and appys! But I really loved the appy since it didn’t have the slide stop, it’s annoying if you stop right before something but you just slide into it. And they’re old animation was so cute.

I personally don’t like the new characters and how no good looking clothes look good anymore. I also don’t like how they stand up when the horses gallop and you aren’t suppose to do that unless your sum sort of Jockie or you wanna be unsafe.

As a guy player I'd rather have todlers than those crusty old characters. The new ones have more masculine face shape options , a lot of eyebrows to chose from. The skinniest body type makes the character almost flat which is also i thing I really like. The old ones are nostalgic but I'd rather sso progressed than stayed in the past.

Tbh after changing some things about my character I like her a lot, but literally everyone looks the same now because we all use the exact same face (the one with the slightly parted lips). I wish we got sliders and had options for our nose, mouth, and eye shape, all separate from the face shape, it would make our characters more unique to us rather than looking the same bc we only have so many preset options. As for the animations, I don't mind them all that much but some definitely need work (the run and our position when our horse does their special move, like what the actual hell is that LOL). Something I'm actually kinda upset about though is the fact that before the update I bought a hairstyle from Firgrove for 300sc, yeah..really expensive, and now they've changed the price to 40sc and 4k js without warning. I want my money back, sso.

Bruh *WHY* on earth did they decide to ruin the appy's hard stop? The old one was cute, quick and simplistic. And *WHAT THE HELL* did they do the arabian's gallop? Who told them to ruin the animations and make the neck stiff?? That was one of the few horses that had an actually good, realistic gallop. Now they just look ugly. Congrats SSO, for ruining yet again 2 more iconic, well-made breeds!

I really liked the older characters they just needed updated animations thats it..

I feel very neutral about the new characters I can even say that I like them but what is annoying is that the game is crashing every single time I try to play it. I expected glitches but its not a glitch anymore its a serious issue. Whats even worse the Jorvik wild is broken. When you jump the horses "brows" kinda stick out of its head.

ive been avoiding steves and moorland like the plague since they make me crash so fast hopefully thatll settle down soon

Friesian horses are also broken (canter and fast gallop animations stutter) and 3rd generation English horses (when stopped quickly, their mane stays in one place)

Anyone else not able to log on, like the screen is stuck on grey screen with the white running horse symbol?

The animations of the horses affected are apparently a bug so if we make awareness of it we can get SSO to fix them!

The I was never there transition screen was top tier

SSO should allow ppl to refund horses they changed because I bought the horse as it was originally and they change it afterwards

I don't think they're perfect by any means and I have a list of stuff I would have liked to see done differently, but I'm stoked about the new characters because it's such a distinct path forward from the old ones. Mostly I wish they had smoothed out some of the animations and fixed stuff like feet fitting in the stirrups before releasing. Even if some of the animations are a little awkward or too fast, they actually look like we're riding a horse. With the type of comments that get left on any actual real life riding video, I think the equestrian community is always going to complain about the animations for the rider in SSO since there are technical constraints that aren't going to make them look like flawless, experienced riders.

I'm a stick in real life, I'm so sad I cant be a stif stick in game anymore. :(

I love that we have better equitation now, especially when jumping. I think they should've waited a bit longer to perfect the animations and make sure they work on all the breeds. Also, I'm totally not gonna send a passionate, hate-filled email to SSO for ruining my favourite horses. 😠

Definitely glad they added masculine options,and with the Arabian and apply they were unintentionally changed so expect them to be fixed soon

I've seen so many weird takes about the new characters compared to the old ones. I do agree that there's many problems with them (they look like kids, they are super buggy, suprise suprise, etc.) but people saying that they are fat or that they miss the old ones is so weird to me. We've been asking for new characters since they first announced that they were working on them, no? why are people backtracking now?

Not to seem like very critical person but the old gallop/canter animations of Arabian Horses were a lot better, fitted the breed perfectly and also were mine favourite horse animations out of every horse breed. The rest of the animations of Arabian horse's Gates are pretty neutral to me, but the old Gallop/canter was really something special. Now when they changed their animations I don't like Arabian Horses no more. In conclusion: I feel like sso just ruined one of their Best Horses (at least to me). Since the thrakener incydent I think that they just have problem with missing/breaking animations and they are to lazy to fix it.

Dennis & all, the Appaloosa and Arabian issue is a *BUG* . SSO stated it multiple times on Facebook and said they're already working on a fix. So don't worry, it will get back to how it was before.

I can't even log in, it keeps crashing before I can even enter. I redownloaded it and all and I restarted my laptop but nope. No update for me I guess, My opinion is the same as yours for the characters

The animations are fu**ed up.🧐That position from fast gallop...are we rodeo riders?! And the trot position, we look like we're on the horse for the first time, and the "looking far away" movement every 5 seconds 🥹

Star Stable has already addressed several times that the animation changes to the Appaloosa and Arabian were NOT supposed to happen. It’s a bug. They are fixing it. Pay attention to what they post and their responses to other people and you would see them say they are working on it

I have never been more disappointed in a game than I was yesterday. They ruined the horses.

I've only just realised but I think the Trakehner's gallop is diff as well. Its head and front legs seem off.

Watching you struggle to get back on your horse after leading it was really funny hahaha all you had to do was press X to stop leading then you could mount 😅 I'm mad they changed the appys gaits though they did say it was a bug so hopefully they're not lying. And I really do like the new characters I think they're definitely an improvement from our old ones but there is still a lot that has to be fixed. Especially in the jumping animation, we don't look secure at all and when we jump from a canter we basically go in front of the saddle. They're definitely really buggy but I am excited for the future with them.

I pressed x in my homestable and my game crashed, Its one click of a button and my game cold crash, the update was so big I had to try 8 times for the game to respond.
