When i was a 240 gunner, i carried about 550 rounds on me. I took the army issued buttpack(it's part of the riflemans kit), taped 3 7.62 boxes together, and used that to hold my rounds more organized. Eventually, I made a kydex box for it, and it was lined with neoprene, so the rounds didn't rattle, but that held 300 rounds. Initially, i molled that directly to the rear of my kit, but i found an alice frame with the straps, and i had it on there as a dedicated ammo bag. I also had 100 rounds on my iotv, and another 100 on my belt. Eventually, i just threw all 200 rounds on my belt and made suspenders for my belt set up. We didnt have those nutsucks for our gun teams, so yes, i did have my 50-round starter belt wrapped around my gun. The act of having to unwrap your rounds before firing may seem outlandish, but when you have to set your conditions, by deploying your bipod and undoing your sling, and eventually linking into tripod, its really such a small step its almost negligable. My advice for all machine gunners...stop trying to abandon your barrel bag, it is your friend.

That's just good advice in general. You're not allowed to carry cameras on deployment and it's also easy to forget to take pictures even if you do have one. Taking more pictures, especially with friends helps you remember and also is proof that you were somewhere at some time. Especially now that everyone has cellphones. When I was in the Army, I wasn't even allowed to carry a cell phone either or else risk getting in trouble for it.

Is it weird that one of my favorite parts of this video is the acknowledgement that dextron mercon transmission fluid is one of the best oils there is to clean and lubricate moving metal parts. I have used it as a detergent in a mechanical setting to free up sludged up cam phasers, stuck lifters, carbon seized piston rings , de-carboning valves in engines. Never would have even thought to apply that to the firearm world. Thank you guys for the knowledge and your time.

Dude, I was an 0331 for 5 years in a line company. We did competitions for accuracy and I'm telling you the thing was an open bolt fully automatic sniper rifle. I could repeatedly make headshots on man sized steel at 600 off the bipod and made several headshots at 800. This is while single loading one round at a time onto the feed tray, not firing a burst obviously. This was with a Bravo model so I can't speak to the Lima or the modified model being run here, but I agree with John in that the foregrip doesn't make sense and that the OG bipod is king.

There were a lot of strange anomalies on that event and still cover-ups to this day I realistically will not put it past some shady criminal elements within our government to pull off an operation like that Considering all the other illegal things going on in our government That their corporate controlled Media covers for them. AND if you listen to the sound of the shooting it does sound like a belt fed machine gun reminds me of the sound of the m240 I used in the infantry. Can't prove it but if it is indeed an operation We are dealing with operators that will murder to keep it hidden

Us Brits used to call our version the 'Jimpy' back in the day, it was still used at the section or squad level for the 1st 6 years of my service, we always appreciated how effective it could do the business as not much was small enough to hide from it, not even in a building... my favourite bit was every other mucker in the section cleaned a piece of it... :P We were taught a very slick quick and fool proof way to load these things with the flick of the wrist back in the day, but I dont want to ramble too much BTW there were no optics or lasers back then for us Brit grunts, but tracers were still effective in 'full fun mode!'

One piece of kit i have found very useful when running any machine gun (or any gun with an extractor for that matter) is a paint can opener this is used to manually extract a round from the chamber if you have a failure to extract very common on machine guns when that barrel starts to heat up

I love your comedy session like this one. Good solid information. As a 19D4H teaching recruits on the wonders of the M60 and M2HB back in the day I taught a future SGM how to go prone with the M2 HB on the 1,800-meter targets short bursts none of the kneeling in full sight letting the bad guys shoot you I saw one M2 almost melt at Ft. Knox the Active officer who drew the guns did not draw spare barrels lubricant or any of the other goodies we needed on the line of tracks. I had my own gage set and a case extractor which during day fire I had to remove a case from a gun the officer had tampered with a beat-up gage allowing way too much headspace. Night fire was hell 4 totally shot out barrels with tracers hitting the ground 15 feet in front of the Tracks. The receivers were glowing orange at the front. We had two active-duty NCOs injured trying to clear way over heated M60s one took a case into his throat the second took one in his forearm. My reserve unit had three Paramedics on the line that night who took care of the two. I believe the officer was relieved of his command at around 2 am as we were clearing the range. We never saw him again.

Awesome seeing the 240 getting some love. A topic that was neglected was the barrel changing. We used to train that with the AG blindfolded (your gun team TL in the big army). Barrel changes can be critical. Loved the tid bit about the sling clip. Such an easy detail to forget - unclip 100m out from offense.

We didnt have ammo bearers on our gun teams because we were mechanized. So the gunner would carry the gun and a 100 round starter belt. The AG, however, carried about 1000 rounds which weighed 70lbs. (each 100 rnd belt weighed 7lbs), the tripod, spare barrel, usually thermals, their M4 and combat load. And that is exactly why my back is fucked.

The M240B was my mounted weapon of choice over the .50 CAL when I was deployed. I would take my loader's M240 and use the M240B conversion kit that each tank had and would use that M240 for when our section ( i was the PSG's gunner) rotated with Alpha section. most of the deployments we ran 4 tanks, however later in the deployments we did 2/2 combination (2 tanks/2 HMMWV M1165's). I sure do miss being on the tank and definitely shooting the PIG when I was in. Max effective range/Tracer burnout of the M240 is 900M. Max range of the M240B: 1800M. Yeah, its still embedded in my brain when it came to the M240 as our tank carried 2 of them. Hell, I even used an AN/PAS-13 thermal sight on it on two of my four deployments.
