Turning an IKEA Dresser into an Industrial Apothecary Cabinet | IKEA HACK

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Check out my clothing shop! modernmade.shop/
----------
I picked up this very generic Ikea dresser on FB Marketplace for $40 and turned it into an industrial apothecary cabinet.
The top was overhanging a little too much for my liking, so it was chopped off just half an inch. Then, I chopped off the legs and gave the dresser a base board to sit on so that I could screw on some new metal casters. For the base board, I used the top of a desk that I found on FB Marketplace for $30, which was a cheaper alternative to buying a new wooden board of the same size (plus I got to turn the desk into a set of nightstands to flip for profit, so win win!) Each of the six drawers were multiplied (faux multiplied?) using a router, giving the dresser a 24-drawer look. Each "new" drawer was then given their own metal label holder handle to really sell the look. The whole thing was stained using a dark walnut stain, giving some areas an additional coat for some tone variation. Finally, it was spray sealed in clear satin poly -- except for the top; I brushed on the poly for the top since this provides a thicker coat for extra durability, which is needed since pine is a very soft wood.
If you enjoyed this makeover, please like and subscribe to see more. And if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer your comments.
Thank you for watching :)

Hey that turned our really nice! One small $ saving tip? Don't use the big box store wood conditioner. Just brew yourself some really strong black tea...let it cool and then use that instead. It works better (I've been using it for years and have tested it on multiple woods including pine, alder, cedar and oak), is less expensive (by a long shot) AND doesn't expose you to any unnecessary chemicals. The tannens (sp?) in the tea do the job. Wipe it on, give it a light sanding and viola, your ready to roll. Keep up the great videos!

Don't know how it's called in english bu you can also use "brou de noix" basically it's just the pigmented water you obtain by boilling walnuts shells. Can be used as ink to draw but also as woodstain ! (Warning : it stinks a lot when you're preparing it and don't you dare to use ever again the pot you prepared the solution in)

But, wood conditioner is not the same as what you're talking about. Tea acts as a stain and wood conditioner pre treats the wood so that the stain will absorb more evenly(which is badly needed on pine, which this wood is) and not be blotchy.

There is nothing I appreciate more than a 'how to' inspiration video without the stupid stock music jangling in the background. Okay, the videos with jazz are the worst, but the stock music crap is more common. Thank you for letting me learn and enjoy the process quietly. This is very clear without being annoying.

This is one of the "better" IKEA-Dressers, one of the older ones with pure and solid wood. The younger ones are much worse: the wood is thinner, and the whole thing is "chipboard with veneer". They can't be changed anymore in the way you did it. Greetings from Germany! I like your work!

People often dismiss the amount of TIME that goes into furniture makeovers & wanna say "all you did was slap on some paint/stain & a few new drawer pulls!". But anyone who has done a GOOD job on even a simple tiny end table know that it takes TIME to do it right. That piece is stunning & sure to last many years! Tnx for sharing

Absolutely love your work… Beautiful!. I agree with some of the other commenters, I love the quietness - No ridiculous distracting music or even talk…and the only sound is the louder than normal sound of the work that you’re doing whether it’s hammering or scratching your pencil across the surface or spraying… Etc. It reminds me of some years ago when I watched a video about a Japanese tea Garden ceremony. The deliberateness of each movement the tea ceremony preparer made with each movement and the sounds associated with pouring the steaming water in the small cup,to brushing the tea in the cup in a swirling motion, to removing the brush out of the cup, tapping it twice against the lip of the cup and then, in an orderly fashion, laying down the tea brush beside the cup at a particular angle - every single action was conscious and deliberate. Watching that ceremony reminded me that I was watching a “master”. This video reminds me of that very much. Could we all be that conscious as we do what we do on this planet.

The editing is very artistic. I love how you duplicate yourself in the same frames.

I love that you don’t speak in your tutorials. Makes it SO much more tolerable to watch the entire thing and it’s actually pleasurable to watch. Thank you! ❤

Great work done. :) Pine is always tough to work with, doesnt take stain evenly and always looks patchy, ive stopped using it for my projects.

WOW just simply WOW!!! This is absolutely stunning!! A true masterpiece. This has made my top 5 of the best flips I’ve seen. You’re a very very talented human being. Not only do you have the natural gift from god to turn everything you touch into gold BUT you’re also a bit of an expert with your filming. Love the way you do your filming and editing. All the people out there who go crazy for ASMR are going to love your videos. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you for sharing ALL of your talents with us 🤗
