Turning A Saw Blade Into A Knife | JIMBOS GARAGE
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is how I turned an old saw blade into a knife. I am not a knife maker by any means. This is my first time making a knife and I think it turned out pretty good. It will not be used for anything, but it is a fun project as long as you are safe.

been in Afghanistan for almost seven years and KZread has become like a connection to the real world and a distraction. Pages like yours and Jodys channel get me through the day. Keep up the good work!

Nice new intro. Thanks for seeing this project through. Enjoyed as always.
Nice work jimbo turned out great!!!! The scratches just add character!!!
Cool project jimbo. Came out good. Gives you a whole new respect for knife makers I'm sure.
I enjoyed how authentic your voice is, admitting to frustration was cool. I embrace the flaws and scratches, saves me some misery brother :) subscribed!
It came out awesome!Good job sir. I watch all your videos!
Glad you didn't give up. I really like your grinder skills.😁
You did a hell of job! Looks great!
Awesome work Jumbo you make it look easy and I know it's not made a few myself out of sawblades, files, big combo wrenches to name a few. I like all your work it's very interesting and I really enjoy watching thanks for sharing..
Thanks for the post! I've been wanting to make a blade or two from a concrete saw blade and is new doing it in a home shop as well!
Badass knife Jim! Way to see through to the end. 😎
I really love how it came out good job sir
Nice knife! I really enjoy your videos excellent editing. Looking forward to seeing more!
Great work. Just cut out and shaped a blade from an old circular saw blade yesterday. Took forever but it looks pretty good. Still have to drill the handle and make some nice handle scales and hopefully it'll come out nice.
It’s soapstone Jimbo! Excellent video!
Very nice creative way of making knife.
Beautiful!!! Scratches gives it character.
That’s a beautiful garage 👍🏾
I enjoy your honest self evaluations. Rarely seen. Your one of the best.

Nice job. I like the shape.
I don't see the problem? good looking knife, and a nice project. Well done.
Looks awesome. Great job
Many of us are quick to point out our flaws, it is KZread after all and if you don't, someone else will. But be proud of the fact you made that knife. Most men don't have the knowledge or skill to make things with their bare hands, especially when it comes to repurposing. Great job.

That's one hell of a letter opener! Very nice!
Awesome work
You are the best sir besides your beautiful workshop too
A couple of things. I made my first few knives with a B+D “PowerFile” (12mm - 1/2” belt, you can get air powered versions). Does a great job with curvy blades. To make the metal hold an edge (the whole point of a knife) you need to quench and temper it. Essentially heat the metal until glowing cherry red, and then dunk it in a suitable quench fluid (most likely an oil like Parkes for this project, each steel will have a specific quench agent you need to research), this is the Quench process. The blade will then be very hard, but VERY brittle, so don’t drop it. You need to temper it for two 1 hour sessions in an oven at 100’c / 210’f. This will take out the brittle nature, leaving you with a blade that can hold an edge.
Nice job Jimbo. its just perfect if you ask me
Thats fantastic idea
That outline was clean af.
Awesome job
Well done. Your the best.
Sir you really did a great job :D

Nice work
So funny we all say the same thing. We all experience the same results. I don’t feel so alone anymore. Thanks for your video. I’m a wood worker so the handle is the easiest part of every knife I build!!!
Looks great and honest as always. As much as you use your belt sander, I could see you fabricating a bad a** one out of a DC motor or 3 phase motor so to get variable speed. You could probably make it take up as much room as your current sander. Just a thought.
Love the freehand work.

You did great, Chief, considering that you went for a fairly advanced and more complex knife design after only one previous project, lol. And it's a perfectly functional and practical knife design, good for slashing and chopping meat and kindling.

Hi Jimbo, you did really great on the knife making. I actually really like how you made the knife. Knife turned out great! I am actually planning making knives myself with no power tools, and all by hand. All i know is that it’s ok if your knife doesn’t turn out perfect, at least if your happy the way it turn out then that’s good! And i am also planning on making knives with maybe only saw blades. You should do more of knife making videos, you did great!

If you have a propane tank, you can heat it up to "soften" the metal, might take a little longer, but would save you the elbow grease. Anyway, absolutely fantastic project, and it looks amazing
Belo trabalho,simplesmente demais.
You can grind the edge (bevel) with a angel grinder with a flap disc. Thank for the video
Good job

I always intend on maybe watching a few minutes but end up watching the whole video.
En cuanto tiempo real lo hiso Sigo pensando que eres un GENIO Saludos desde Guatemala.
Awesome..I'd buy one.
You now have a Texan size letter opener :-) B.T.W. the padauk will turn brown on the surface as it ages, a quick sanding returns the orangy color.
Absolutely Love It Jimbo!! - Plenty of character, I like that in a blade. You should look into Candle wax and vinegar etching, This would be a great blade to etch up. Keep up the great work mate, You are a natural! *Subbed* -Take care buddy - Skorp, Western Australia
Nice watch too! 😎
Very nice 👍
Not bad Jimbo!.. You will get better with practice, just like everything else.
good job
Very inspiring, well done! Have you passed it through a knife sharpening machine, you can get good edges from those.
Good video Men 👍
Nice work Jimbo! You need to soften the hard steel saw blade first to work it by putting it in a forge or a heat treat oven and slowly cool it down afterwards so it won't crack. Then it will be a lot easier to cut and remove all the scratches. And when you're done you need to harden the steel again.
Buen trabajo
Ya may not be a Knife maker, but that's a great looking project, both blade and handle, nice look to the whole build.....
nice very clean shop also
