I’m jealous about the products your Bunnings has! Home Depot and Lowe’s need to take note lol 😅
Blake, try water crest and you can use it in your salad as well.

Great video mate. Food and aquariums my two favourite things. Kinda disappointed you didn't show us how to grow a doughnut plant but nobody's perfect hey.

A better option for pots is aquaponics baskets. They have a larger flange on the top therefore are more forgiving with your hole size. I'm growing some parlour palms this way and they are flowering at the moment.

True, shouldve said that but bunnings had me so frazzled, was way too busy in there 🤣

Thanks Blake!😊
Yey! We call that aquaponics! :D You can also raise tilapia and/or crawfish. :D And that water you change out you NEED to use for an actual garden. You're dumping liquid gold every time you water change. :*(
Yay good ole Garn.
Great video I've got ivy growing everywhere. But I'm thinking about doing some herbs in a couple of my tanks . Thanks for sharing ✌️💗👍💯

This video makes me want to move to Australia just so I can shop at Bunnings instead of Home Depot & Lowes. Harbor freight and Ace’s are catching up but they’re still too small.
Had the same issue you mentioned with sweet potatoes. I’ve never had them work out long term. The Spud always goes mushy on me eventuality.
interesting ideas thanks Blake
GRATITUDE 💥🐟💥
Your coffe cup scape is really funny. Where did you get the light? Looks like it sits firmly on the round glass.

There’s also a risk of liver flukes, but quarantine and medication of all new additions can help avoid it.

I have peace lily growing in mine.I went to clean my sponge filters and the roots have grown through the sponge 😂.So I have to give the sponges a squeeze in the tank to clean them.

Great idea, this is exactly what I am thinking of, and found your channel! I grew herbs before using the hydroponic method. Just a friendly reminder for those who want to try this, be gentle with the plant when shaking out the soil, and not to hurt the root system.

Sweet pototo plant is fantastic for me crazy crazy growth. Dont know why everyone leaves the sweet potato on? You can snap of the leaves (Slips) and pkace them in water they grow insane and dont have a big rotting potato on the end. Do sweet potato, I havent seen anything grow so fast on fish tank water. But use the slips once they grow and discard the potato!

@@BlakesAquatics need any tips or advice hit me up happy to help. Have a massive plant in my sump right now! Dont leave the potato in! Just the stems and leaves! Mind you gonna need a way to hang them or trail them they grow huge. I chop handfuls off every month or two.
What about tap safe if growing food with the water?
Any plant will root, if submerged in water. Water plants have evolved diffrently. And even those will root under certain conditions. But, if the plant sends it's roots in the water, than that is something diffrent. It puts in the water just it's roots, no other parts of the plant body.

Hi, I just subscribed 🙂 What do you think about green onions? Do you think the onion roots would secrete chemicals into the water? Also, could fish parasites get on the base of the onion below water and make us humans sick?
@BlakesAquatics
3 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for that. I think the biggest risk is what you have mentioned. Risk of salmonella / tuberculosis from the fish. Best to stick to things that you only eat the above water portion
@wcdeich4

@@BlakesAquatics personally I'm worried about liverflukes. IDK if they'd effect a human, but i don't want to find out. Also not sure if onion roots leach chemicals into the water that could overstimulate bacteria growth.
