If the slide requires everything to be mirror smooth to work right, it will have issues sliding right when it starts wearing in. I think it could help to have more clearance and some brass or bronze sliding surface which is kind of self-lubricating. Aluminum sliding or rubbing against aluminum without an oil film is known to experience galling damage
@Randy-lg1qo

I would think the opposite - have a matte finish for less binding surface area (dunno though). I don’t think aluminium would be good for a moving part like that regardless due to the heat expansion and softness. Good luck with whatever u end up doing to get it to work
@Derkenblosh2Ай бұрын
BTU (ball transfer units) with set crews to set clearance of plates would be a great addition for that throttle plate

carbon airbox and a single 76mm throttle body?

try rounding all of the sharp edges of the slider and tapering the surface from the intake opening to the outer sliding edge instead of leaving everything exactly flat and square.
@DSR216Ай бұрын
I don't think you'd need much warp in the flange to create a bunch more drag in the slider.
@daviddetweiler7658Ай бұрын
I sped through your videos a bit, but if I had to guess, maybe you can adjust the throw of your TB bracket/arm so that you get more control at the lower pedal travel and higher pedal travel is more or less "open" from 80-100%.
@deimosphobАй бұрын
Should go for a brass slide with 2 throttle cables one for top and one for bottom of the slide, that way the slide is pulled more evenly. You'll also likely need more lubrication.
@mazdamadbradАй бұрын
Wow! That is so close to perfect as what I would want from sound and exterior look!

I think chamfering your side edges away from the rollers ti minimize areas for gunk to get stuck between sliding interfaces would help a little bit. The main issue is that there isn't any sealing to prevent particulates from getting into the moving parts, so you'll inevitably get gunk in there. You also don't have a way to easily add more lubricant, so switching to a thinner oil instead of grease won't work for a long term solution. If it's all aluminum, the steel needle bearings will eventually wear into the softer aluminum surfaces to the point where they won't be bearing anything anymore. Looks great though! All of your current issues will be resolved once you have some more time and design maturity to build off of :)

Hey man, this may be wildly incorrect but Rob Dahm ended up machining the plates to fit injectors in his 26b because of issues with revving/taking off from idle. I don't know if the same would apply to your engine but if you're curious take a look back at some of his videos and he explains it. If that's relevant I hope it helps!

Is the flange on the inlet manifold warped? If so when you bolt the slides down they'll twist and bind up.

I don't think alloy is the right sort of material for the slide throttle, being softer it's going to wear a lot faster and cause more issues later on. Maybe try using and alternative like stainless steel?

Being smoky is not uncommon in multi rotor engines which use a stock iron modified to hold a centre bearing. From what I’ve been informed, the modification to the iron means that the inner oil ring slightly passes over the modified area, allowing some oil to get past.

Personally, I’d ditch that slide throttle. Considering your goal of it being a smooth street driver and not leaning on the engine, the slide throttle is unnecessary and adds nothing but issues. Run a pair of IDA style injection throttle bodies, or even a plenum with a single throttle.
