Sharon most definitely deserved an Emmy for this episode. Simply fantastic. I've never seen better.

Facts! Neither drama or comedy. Not since shows like The Closer, Burn Notice, Modern Family, The Middle etc. have we seen acting in either genre be on par with the best shows back in the day.

Cagney and Lacey, Hill Street Blues, La Law, St. Elsewhere, Magnum, PI, Moonlighting etc. so many great one hour dramas came out at that time. Paved the way for a lot of these critically acclaimed and award winning dramas that's come out the past two decades.

Sharon played this woman brilliantly, very drunk, full of sadness, hopelessness and despair. The award was fully deserved. The whole series is something special. What the two leading actresses have shown in the series is unsurpassed so far

Excellent acting.

Sharon Gless was amazing in this episode. She deserved that emmy.

The only one that could handle Cagney was lacey

tough act to pull off to have all the movements coordinated of incoordination in every manner to be mindful of it all at once & constantly on top of that you're lines. Not just saying the lines the slurring of the words, be mindful still have to speak them well enough for the audience to understand-hear, have to be coordinated w/the movements every part of the body....make it believable. Back in the day.....scenes were a lot of times done all at once.....not spliced like they can do in these times. I agree w/many commentors....Sharon Gless deserved Actress of the Year along with an Emmy & whatever other awards possible. I was in Awe & Tyne Daly....another Actress that is incredibly talented, a Woman to be in Awe of. This is what has made Cagney & Lacy LEGENDARY...!!

I had never looked at it from the technical acting side, coordination etc.

Best series of all time. Where else can you see such intense acting? It's a good thing that there was never a Cagney and Lacey remake with other actresses in 2018, the two cannot be replaced

Best theme song ever

This is one of the best episodes on this show featuring the absolute art of these two women. Watching Sharon Gless portray a woman in pain of loss is like experiencing cut glass, excruciating to watch for anyone who experienced loss of a loved one. It draws you in and you forget you are watching a show, it is so universal, amazing talent.

Christine as the daughter of a drinking Irishman; Charlie let her drink from his glass as a child; She also drank more and more often during the series and at every opportunity. It became a habit. And the death of her beloved father led to tragedy and her downfall. Very difficult to bear, terrible. Great Sharon Gless, she played it all so realistically

Best show

He was her main support in life, no Mom, estranged from her brother, no true family. Lacey had family. Cagney felt truly alone for the first time and realized she wasn't as independent as she thought. She also couldn't deal with the fact that Charlie was no hero but a drunk who was responsible for his own demise and she was headed for the same fate.

I always admire Sharon Gless for this portrayal of the drunk and desperate Christine Cagney

What an episode. Christine Cagney experiences a complete crash due to her drinking after the death of her beloved father. And Marybeth catches her. Greatly played by Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly. Best acting. There is no such thing anymore today. The Emmy Award for Sharon was justified

I’m not sure if the show would have been as good if Loretta Swit had been let out of her MASH contract to play Cagney full-time.

so, Cagney followed in the footsteps of her old man, including becoming a drunk, just like him. Hard to watch....

The Christine charactor does show what drunkenness is, and how bad it can be and is. It is a disease but can be tamed.

You got the wrong season in the title, this is season 6 not 5
