In split ac's there is a switch inside the front panel, lift up the cover and you can see a slight cut with a button inside. Click it with a pen etc and enjoy :)

does it need to be sand-papered in half? or is that done for convenience?

After sanding the transmitter need a clear pict of sides of the transmitter so that i didn't sand away the anode or cathode part

@Xeon The Gamer I think, he just wanted to lower the risk, of burning the LED, by only using one, and this removes the need of using a protective resistor.

Should I connect two big or one big and one small on the positive and negative pin and also headphone jack left on big or small

Because this is made for multiple things, TV & air conditioner. You can use one, if it's just for TV.

one is short range, the other a long range.both would give better reception

My LG V20 had a built-in remote. I upgraded to the LG G8 Thinkq. They've got rid of the remote feature unfortunately.

@@heatherriley8980 The S8 and S8+ lack an internal IR blaster. Anything after the Samsung Galaxy S6 lacks one, I assume they did this due to not enough demand or simply to reduce costs and make room for other internals and features they deemed more worthwhile. You're right though, without a phone with the proper hardware or with an external transmitter, the app won't be able to help you.
