My great aunt’s husband was an Afro Turk as well. His father came with caravans from East Africa and married a Muslim lady from Crete in West Turkey, then under Ottoman Empire. Africans were brought to this geography for several generations and worked in agricultural lands and as artisans and domestic help in farms in western Turkey. There are many villages with Afro Turks

I'm not trying to be know it all but the East Coast slave trade to the Middle East was conducted by sea. Slaves were not only taken from the East but from far inland into Central Africa. Malawi, Zambia, Congo, as well as Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, the horn of Africa region to name a few. The slave caravans that crossed the Sarahan desert were from West Central ,Central Africa, Southern and Western Sudan and even were captured by Islamic states such as Darfur, Borno Kanem, Kano, Sokoto ar the time the Ottomans were slave trading. Most were walked through the desert to Tripoli and and Derma in Libya, Morocco, Egypt. This list is not definitive. There were many more Kingdom's over a longer time scale and satellite Kingdom's. Slaves were nearly always taken from the South of these Kingdom's even from hundreds of miles away. A less powerful kingdom would have to pay tribute in slaves, Ivory, gold, wildlife etc. Occasionally even Muslim's were raided un warfare by Islamists who saw their victims as less serious Muslim's. During this period thousands of Muslims from the Hausa, Borno Kingdom's etc were sent to Bahia Brazil in the early 1800s by Fulani Jihadists who used the pretext that some of them still practised traditional tribal spiritual practices. Most sent across the Sahara were not Muslim though but some were.
