No-Bake Mosaic Cake
Servings: 10-12
Difficulty: Easy
Cooking time: 10 minutes + freezing
Prep time: 15 minutes
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
½ vanilla pod, halved
150 g butter
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 egg
500 gr petit beurre biscuit (or any kind that you want), crushed
4 kumquats, thinly sliced
* Mix sugar and milk. Take the seeds of vanilla pod and add the seeds and skin into the milk. Once the sugar dissolves, set it aside to cooldown.
* Melt butter in a pan, add cocoa and mix until they get creamy.
* Remove the vanilla stems from the milk mixture. When the milk mixture comes to room temperature, add egg and the cocoa-butter mixture into it and whisk until mixed.
* Add kumquats and the milky cocoa mixture to the cracked biscuits. Mix them for a few times without mashing too much.
* Put it on a baking paper and shape it by using your hands. Make sure there is not any unfolded area of the dessert. Freeze it in the freezer as one piece or you can make small cubes by using an ice cube tray covered with a refrigerator bag.

Hi Refika and team. Glad you liked the vanilla, the recipe looked very tasty. We are hopefully coming back to Istanbul in a few months, so we will bring you some more treats from NZ
My family is Greek. My mother was born and raised in Istanbul. In her family they called this Salami. Now my kids love this and make it themselves. That recipe doesn’t use milk or egg. It uses sweetened condensed milk.
Thanks for spreading happiness…
I do this dessert very often, and use film and make a roll. My grandchildren love it . I use Belgian chocolate and sometimes add almonds or pistachios.

PERFECT FOR CHILDREN AND GROWN-UP KIDS like US ♥️♥️♥️
Here in Malaysia we have something similar, too.We named it as Kek Batik. But some make ( sell) and top with chocolate ganache and sprinkle almond flakes Others go further layering with white choc mousse and top it with choc ganache - known as indulgence kek batik. They also have biscoff kek batik.Normally ,they will use Marie biscuits.
I'm learning turkish, so please let me say, tessekur ederim. Sorry for the lack of accents, I'm very new!!
Hello from romania, wow wow look fantastic and easy to make, ill try it,today I made your bulgur pilavi which I love it,and fry eggplant with tomato meze, congratulation for all your work and recipes, turkish cuisine is the great in the world,
We call this fudge slice in New Zealand. My gran made this and we loved visiting and finding it in the tins. When we would make it with her, our job would be to crush the biscuits, she would give us a rolling pin and let us bash them until they were the right size for the fudge slice.
The view from your kitchen window looks amazing
I’ve seen so many variations of this gorgeous cake from yourself in Germany, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Palastine. Like Baklava is all over the world. Love every one. 👍

This is called gateau salam. I used to married to a Turkish Jewish man from Istanbul his family used to make this all the time. Actually this is very famous among the Jewish community of Istanbul. This dessert has Portuguese and Italian origins.
Сладкиш от детството ми. Много го харесвах. Благодаря, Рефика! От България
Σας αγαπώ πολύ όλους σας! I love you all so much!!!
we call this lazy cake in palestine ;) but we normally make a chocolate "pudding" and then drop the biscuits into it

My family do the same, here in Turkey. x
In Serbia they have similar no bake cake with walnuts (and sometimes with rum 🤤) without eggs called Bajadera. I Sweden we have ”chokladbollar” chocolate balls with oats instead of the bisquits. Both very popular 😊
Oh! My mom used to make something very much like this only using graham crackers and no egg. In the wintertime she would add a drop of peppermint oil. She'd put it in a loaf pan. (I grew up in the Midwest US.) I haven't had it in years and now I want some. Thank you!
Harika bayıldım, küçükken Ankara’da annemin tarif defterinden yaptığım şekilde hiç bir yerde bulamıyordum, hadi İngilizce araştırayım dedim ve you just came up 😊 İngilizce öğretmeniyim, önceki yıllarda Kırgızistan’daydım (iskender tarifine yorum yapmıştım) öğrencilerime her zaman içerik paylaşıyorum instagram ve KZread’dan, now you’re in my list . So much love to you Refika ❤❤❤
You are so fun to watch and we enjoy learning new things from you!
We call this salami biscuit in Romania. It is one of my favourite dessert ❤ we don't add eggs in it but we add walnuts and rum essence. It is super delicious!

YUM I'm going to make this to take to my daughter for her housewarming this Sunday. Love you guys.
Thanks you so much for your sharing is happy watching
Thank you for sharing.
Great!! Thank you! Loved this video. Loved the little twist at the end. So happy and fun as always
Awesome!
In Tatarstan, Russia we have something very similar called Chak-Chak.but the syrup is just honey no cocoa. It's actually tastes a bit like baklava because of that
I've never heard of ruby chocolate before, you introduce so many wonderful things to me, thank you
I don’t really like this cake much but I watched just for the sake of watching you Refika. Always a pleasure to watch you. ❤❤

My mother used to make this dessert a lot. Very delicious 😋
Another outstanding video and recipe! Thank you so much! I can try this with Maria cookies here if I can't get the type of biscuits in your recipe. Maria cookies are Hispanic cookies, and easy to find because we have so many Latin American cultures here in south Florida. I checked out your Amazon shopping options, but the tile plates were out of stock. I used to go to a Turkish restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, and there was a gift shop there which sold Turkish tiles. I fell in love with them, the designs are so beautiful, and I have a few on my kitchen walls, but I would love dinnerware in those traditional Turkish designs. Unfortunately the ones that are available online are very expensive which makes them out of reach for me. I am so happy to have found your channel. I enjoy your videos so much!
Fabulous!
Awesome. In Sri Lanka we make a biscuit pudding where biscuit and chocolate is layered sometimes into a loaf pan, sometimes into a dish. Time consuming. This is so pretty and so easy. interesting too. Thank you Refika. Love your programmes.
This looks amazing. I haven’t had this since I was in Israel 20 years ago.
My grandmother made this all the time, and we just called it "gâteau froid". We add coffee to it as well, and use village cookies here in Québec
We call it the refridgerator pudding and serve it on top of a dollop of vanilla ice cream or just custard
That was so cute especially at the end, will try this out
We make it in South Africa too but use icing sugar and just melt everything in one pot before we add the biscuits and egg. We cut it in squares. Very yummy! Can eat the whole pan by myself 🤣
Petit-beurres are french biscuits native from Nantes in Brittany
Awesome ❤️❤️❤️
That looks awesome Refika, I will have to try it soon. You guys are the best and I just love your channel so much.

Refika, here in Portugal it’s SUPER famous; every kid knows how to make it and every supermarket sells it. We call it SALAME DE CHOCOLATE.
We enjoyed this in Akçay near Edremit only last week… delicious!!!
I love this cake. More than actual cakes really. Some pistachios or hazelnuts can be good in it too.
Such great news you are Amazon now! We are about to go shopping.

I like the combination of chocolate and coconut flavors, so I might do this with 1/3 butter + 2/3 extra virgin coconut oil, which is not very cheap but it is still quite available here in Brazil. In Portugal there is a very similar chocolate salami cake... we do add some Port wine to it and some recipes add some almond meal.
Hi from Tennessee USA. That looks absolutely delicious. Thanks for sharing.

My mother used to make something similar but she layered the biscuits ( she was German ) I have also had some thing similar but it had no cocoa , it was almond slivers and apricots
That is such an innovative idea💡 My only question is if the egg isn't cooked at all, isn't there a possibility of salmonella?
Wooow…. This is just what we need to know!! Lovely!! You are on Amazon now… Yay!!!

In the Netherlands we know this as arretjescake, delicious!
In Portugal we call it chocolate saleme (salame de chocolate ) it is very good. I had a a friend at school who was a boy scout and it was its specialty
Oh my, that looks just yummy! I think it would be a hit at a party... Love you and Love your Peeps! Give everyone hugs and love from Wyoming in the Rocky Mountains... Blessings! 💕
Yummy
Delicious 😋😋
Awesome
In Romania we call this cake: biscuit salami 😊 nice and simple recepie !
In Malta we have christmas log made with sweet cherries and morning coffee biscuits
Great recipe and even better personality, Refika! I love your shows, and I can hardly wait to visit Istanbul again! I grew up in Romania and we had the chocolate salami too, but we also included chopped walnuts and the best part...various, pretty colors of pieces of Turkish delight!! No raw egg, though, as far as i recall. I cannot believe that the recipe from the country that invented Turkish delight doesn't use Turkish delight in this recipe, or in pound cakes and in pastries "cornulete" similar with rugelach and such. But all is great, and thank you for your recipes and lovely cooking shows. Refika, how do you use Turkish delight in Turkey if you never include it in pastries and any recipes?
well 🤭as far as I know, every nation has something similar, with local ingridients) but nice to learn one more from Turkey now )) thank you for sharing )
Love your videos. Cheers from Barcelona.

We make something very similar in South Africa ❤
How long is your growing season in Turkey? We have to wait until the chance of frost has passed (end of May ) to plant things in our gardens. Then there is a chance of frost again in September. You always seem to have so much fresh fruit and vegetables. Love your channel. 😊👍👍❤️🇨🇦
we use to make them as chilndren, in the kibbutz. but roll it in to balls called "chocolate balls"
👍 Great 💞 😊
Aaaaaaaaaa 😮 this I have to try!
(Antifreeze is what we put in cars, frost free freezers are the freezers that have a defrost cycle that is problematic). The cake looks DELICIOUS. I dislike cake, but I think I would -like- LOVE this. Must ask: what is ruby chocolate? I have never heard of it.
How do say "Love you guys" without words…!? XOXOX 👌🏼😉
In Denmark, this cake is called kiksekage, or biscuit cake; the biggest difference is that it is in the form of a rectangle with even layers. We make it often in our Danish-Armenian household, and in every form, it’s easy and delicious!
That looks delicious!!
We have a similar cake call batik cake in Malaysia. It's one of my old time favourite. ❤🤗😘 from New Zealand. We love you and your crew.

Do you have any recommendations on making this vegan, something else to substitute the butter? Thank you!
I like you guys 😊
Wow, this is a bit like Chocolate Tiffin - although they usually use a tin and add a layer of melted chocolate across the top.
