My 4 biggest turkeys were taken in crappy weather, 3 in rain, 1 in snow. I waited 45 minutes for the snow bird, snowing so hard could barely see him at 70 yards and he just sat there. He then started browsing and shaking snow off every 5 minutes and walked right to me. 29lbs and a double beard! Yesterday was storming, 4pm I called him in with no decoys. 27.8lbs and 12" beard. I LOVE the rain!!
Been hunting birds for 40 years but I always learn something from your channel Matt.......thanks!!
Thx for the tips, I'll be hunting in the rain tomorrow, good to know some helpful tips I may not know :)
Thank you sir for your great wisdom and content. I'm a turkey amateur, I did not grow up hunting turkeys's and learned everything on the youtube. I have 4 seasons under my belt and 3 birds. Today was my 3rd bird and the weather was exactly as you had described. Minnesota is not known for it's warm spring. Rainy, windy and cold. I sat patiently for almost 6 hours and 3 minutes before heading in for lunch (I hunt my own property) a Tom came in to the decoys like a freight train after a few soft clucks and purrs. I only heard one gobble and purr all morning and that was after they came down from roost. The soft calling was just what they wanted to hear.
Finally, a good video with REAL tips for hunting gobblers in the rain. Great video. I appreciate the info.
Just wanted to thank you for the videos. Frustrated after opening weekend I resorted to watching your videos and absorbing as much info as I can. Today after two straight days of rain in California I hit the woods and put a 10in double beard on the ground by 7:30. I’m hunting public land, your tips on calling and ditching the decoys really made the difference today. Plus this video on hunting on the rain was super helpful.
Thank you, I watched this while it was raining during my hunt and using your tips I killed a big Tom.
That’s a great tip. I’ve been turkey hunting since the mid ‘80’s and have had fields or open woods that were always productive during rains. They just seemed to go to those areas (and I think for the same reasons you mention-sight over sound). Thanks for sharing. Happy Hunting to Ya
This year I started hunting turkey seriously. I haven't filled my tag yet but I finally spotted few turkeys afar. Well the season ends this weekend and the forecast is rain. Thank you for that tip. I will dust off my deer blind and being it with me. This year is my learning year so hopefully I can bag one next year
I always appreciate your advice and videos. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
I like a slow rainy day they love open fields on days like this
Great info Matt! Always great content
I need to remember my bread sack for my Box in the light rain.
Thanks Boss I appreciate your time Question. your opinion on a turkey's memory. maybe the next video. thank you in advance
New at turkey hunting and learn from each of your videos. You may have answered this question before but will you comment on how, or if, different weather conditions affects the time of day and the frequency a turkey gobbles.
I hunt in the mountains of SC and my experience is the turkey will move down in elevation but not quite down far enough to the very bottom. Once the rain lightens up, they are very active but they are on the move again and food plots is not where you want to be, but on higher elevation points. But it’s tricky when to get higher quickly means to go through very open woods and being seen is a possibility.
What about in this cold weather that we will be getting this weekend in Missouri?
I have one of those $20 umbrellas and it’s one of my best investments
mddae31,Do you think gun camo is important? I’ve been told that it isn’t, but seems like it would help a lot with movement.

yes it helps a lot.

Not necessarily. Using terrain that a gobbler is on the other side of makes the difference. He will still spot your movement with camo.
Thanks youth opens tomorrow in NC and it's supposed to rain.

@@bullscustombaitsco1648 Just saying howdy from Marion, NC. Good luck hunting gobblers. This is my first season trying.
You think Turkey's ever die of old age or just get slow and get kill by a predator?
Matt I've killed over 30 cobblers I'm 32 yr old and have never killed a turkey in the rain. I want to. I can only hunt public land here in VA I'm at that may hurt me because all fields are on private
