To add additional time on your freeze dryer, press the customize button (while it is not running) and change the extra dry time. I have mine set for 12 extra dry hours. That way my machine will continue until I can get to it. Hope this helps!

I always add an additional 12 hours in cases where it finishes in the middle of the night. I can always cancel when I get up. Always best to store warm foods … never cold

I have added 12 hours of extra dry time to my machine so I don't have to worry about it overnight. My last casserole took 54 hours!

Yes, I would definitely say, along with some other comments I've read, that it would work better if it wasn't so thick. I've definitely done that before. I've done quite a few ready-made meals and it's so handy! I especially love soups! And turkey meat is one of my favorite things to freeze dry! We even love to eat it dry! Make sure to have a big glass of water nearby 😄

Don’t start the defrost mode until you have tested your product and made sure they are dry enough to package. That way you can put it back in and add more drying time

I use the weight method when freeze drying. Once the cycle is done, I weigh all trays, and then put them back in for 2hrs EDT, rotating tray positions (tray 1 in tray 2 position, tray 2 in tray 1 position etc). After 2hrs I weigh again. If they lost up to 1 gram or more, they go back in for another two hours. I do this until zero weight is lost. I set up a baby-cam and sound monitor on my machine so I can check in on my phone. I also have 12 hrs EDT set as a default for my machine. I am fortunate to work from home so I am always there to check food as soon as cycle finishes but I have heard that if cycle finishes and FD goes back to freezing, just hit "Warm trays" and let warm for around 15mins so that food is warm when you bring it out for packaging. I also do prefer to do all of the same types of food together per run and if a tray might be thicker than the others, I place that tray in the 2nd rack because that is where the machine sensor is on my machine. This insures that if the machine thinks the thick tray is done then the thinner trays are most likely done as well. Just my modus! Love your videos as always!

Oh my goodness Turkey Tetrazzini one of my favorite casseroles looks amazing. Can't wait to see the freeze dry results. Have a great week. Sending you warm 80 degree Texas weather. I was shocked because it was freezing last week. Rain storms tonight and we always need water. (even if I had my car washed today). Good video. Have a wonderful week.

Try using a moisture meter or a thermal camera you can attach to your smartphone. That is very helpful for checking before you clear the freeze dryer. If moisture or cold temps show then you can add drying time.

It is better to spread 'casserole' foods out on the tray, but you can purchase food safe dividers that will give you portions. The best way to be sure food is completely dry is when the machine says it's done...weigh each tray by grams (write it down somewhere) and then put the trays back in for another two hrs. Then weigh each tray again. The weight has to be 1 gram or less moisture lost. If it's more than that on ANY tray put them all back in for another 2 hrs until no tray has lost more than the 1 gram. It's a bit of a pain but even a tiny bit of moisture can ruin a stored food.

I weigh my trays and record weight after about 2 hours extra dry time. I continue to weigh trays every couple of hours until weight of each individual tray weighs the same twice consecutively.

We have found that with freeze drying poultry we put the meat into dishes, instead of doing it by itself. After 58 hours our chicken breast wasn't dry, so we never did the meat on it's own again.

When you take out the food just mute the alarm(push the speaker icon), don't stop it that way you can just add more dry time if you need to.

I don't have an alarm on mine--maybe older than yours. Only that one tray wasn't done, the three with the meat were fine, so this time it was easier to just finish it off in my dehydrator. Thanks.

When I purchased my freeze drier I was told from Harvest Right that the freeze drier will hold the food safe by freezing it and once I am ready to deal with it I am to add more time and let the freeze drier run another 30 minutes to heat it back up. At this point, he said any cold spots need more time because cold spots when hot are signs of mot done. Hope this helps.
