Really appreciated the run-through explanation. I was so curious how this game worked, and your video really helped. The design seems really ingenious! Not sure it's right for my play group, but it's the kind of game I'd love to play a few times at a game cafe or at a convention or something. Very cool!! Props to the designers for figuring out how to make those cards so that the right answers show through the cards -- my brain is boggling trying to figure out how exactly they did it.

Me too! I have no idea how they made all that work! Well you can always play it solo! It works well
I missed the con due to being sick this year. Thankfully my friends picked up the games I wanted from the Con. Thanks for taking the time for this review and I hope you feel better soon!

@@TheGameBoyGeeks Computer/Software focusing on cloud architecture... so not too distant from your electrical.
Continuing the logic at 6:50, you know purple is the max number, so blue can't be 5 either. And because you know there are more odds than evens, then blue can't be 2 or 4 either. So blue is 1 or 3. One more go with B needed, I think. Could have done it in two guesses if you'd tried something like 142 for your second guess. If B had been 'yes', then it's 145, if 'no', then 345.

Ha! Yes I actually followed this logic on my real play of this specific puzzle, but I didn’t want to show that sheet to not spoil anything, but you’re right I could have pointed those out there :)
I didn't know about this game before Gen Con. As an engineer, after the first few seconds of a demo I knew I had to have it. This game is amazing for puzzle people!

I think it is!
Looks excellent but it seems a multi player solitaire with the exception of the final thumbs thing, opposed to cryptid and planet x where you can gather information during opponents turns
I loved this video and can't wait to get this game! Thanks for the review! Did you get to see Deal with the Devil? Deduction games are also my favorite!

I did see Deal with the Devil. It’s definitely heavier than I expected but looks very unique!
Wow 🤩 thanks for this review, my kind of game 👍

I hope you enjoy it too!
I seem to find a lot of logic deduction games from you haha. First Cryptid, then Search for Planet X, now this. This looks absolutely excellent, esp since there's a solo mode and supposedly millions of puzzles online. Another game to add to the "to buy" 😅

Cool Ryan! Let me know what you think!
Just went and tried the website, it seems live (Aug 20, 2022) Watch out though, it might not work with some dark themes on a phone. Had to switch to another browser without my dark theme to get the answer.
Amazing! How did they do this? Thank you for the review - it was hard to follow (!) but I get it - surely a great game for puzzle fans!

I’m amazed at the punchcard design and Joe they figured out how to make it work with so the cards and such. Even looking at the solution Cards and seeing they have 4 different numbers on them and they don’t always go early in numerical order has me wondering how they designed this amazing system!
Thanks for the review--this looks great! May I ask how much this game costs retail?

MSRP is $39.99
Just an FYI, the website IS up, it’s just in beta form.

Turingmachine.info currently says “turingmachine.info is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com. “. There is no site there. Where do you see the beta site?
Thanks for this Dan. I too did logic puzzles as a kid. I too had a Commodore 64 and remember my first program was a random number generator. I had no clue, then, that I'd wind up teaching computer science. So, this game is certainly on my radar. It will be interesting to see the connections between this game and computational thinking skills.

I love deduction games and a super fan of Planet X. I backed The Lost Code. Which one do you like better The Lost Code or Turing Machine?

It's too early to tell for me. But it's safe to say if you like deduction games they are different enough to have both.

I have not, but it is very similar to Akward Guests which I didn’t care for. The passing of the cards and the way you get the info I did not like and It took away from what should be the star of the game (the deduction)

I’m happy it turned out to be a hit for you. It looked so bland and there was SOOO much at the con I didn’t dedicate time to it.

The deduction looks interesting but no player interaction.

Racing and not knowing who is going to thumbs up at the end of the round does bring tension, but other than that, there isn’t much interaction.

@@TheGameBoyGeeks That's true. I don't feel like it's going to surpass The Search for Planet X, Alchemists, or Awkward Guests for us though.
This is a strange situation where I think the game's mechanism for implementing the game is way more cool and interesting than the mechanism the player uses to play it. I think I would happily enjoy playing this game, but I feel like the gameplay isn't that much different than lots of other pure deduction games. It's just that the components allow for more variety in the setup

Trying to narrow it down with the least amount of questions Is the big thing in this game. That leads to come up with clever numbers to select based upon your earlier answers and what verifiers are out there. With there being just about unlimited replayability that puzzle will be different each time. Also the order you ask the questions might change which one or how many you ask that round which is another great subtle that probably isn’t obvious without playing it a few times.
It looks awesome. I've been waiting to hear about this. Disheartened to hear you were sick but still interacted with a bunch of people at the con. Seems like the antithesis of logic to me. Hope you feel better and didn't spread it around.

@@TheGameBoyGeeks Good to hear!
I'm a bit miffed at the title of the game because this has nothing to do with a Turing Machine
@TheGameBoyGeeks
Жыл бұрын
Right but the publisher mentions this in interviews… “This game does NOT represent a Turing Machine. The title was chosen (after much deliberation) for this reason: Alan Turing was not only famous for his work as a code-cracker, but is also widely considered the father of computer science... which fits our game perfectly: a game about using a punch-card proto-computer to crack a code,” the publisher’s Matt Legault explained
@olanmills64
Жыл бұрын
Yeah but I'm guessing the average person isn't go to be aware of the publisher's comments. In the grand scheme of things, this doesn't really matter. In fact maybe it will cause more people to look up what a Turing Machine actually is. There's just that little pedantic part of me that gets annoyed at stuff like this and gets annoyed at the thought of people that will now have an incorrect impression of what "Turing Machine" means@@TheGameBoyGeeks
Game looks interesting and a lot of fun. Can't get over the fact that you went into a con with thousands of people when you were feeling sick though. Very irresponsible :(

I felt under the weather the first day which was before it was open to the public. At that time I thought it was the jet lag and 3 hour time difference. I didn’t go into the hall when it was open to the public and hoped Id feel better. But i didn’t So I went home early. Nothing irresponsible here.
