Turhan Sultan | Mahpeyker (2010)

Ойын-сауық

I love this movie just for it's clothing designer. Bless them for doing research. Also, Turhan actually looks slavic as she should.

I really wanted to find this film... Even if without translation. Here Turhan looks as her historians describe. Blue eyes, brown hair. The last great woman of the Ottoman Empire! Thank you! You introduced me to this version of the film.

In this movie all the costumes are so accurate to the reality. I like Magnificent century also, but the most uncomfortable piece of clothing was the crown, which never existed in the reality. Those metallic crowns which all the women wear in Magnificent Century series is the worst thing. The "turban" was the real crown for Ottoman women sultanas.

I like the clothing here much more than in Magnificent Century. It feels far more appropriate for the Muslim women. The actress playing Turhan is so beautiful and her voice when she calls Mehmet's name when he's ill is moving.

@@adel9369 Firstly, where is your proof? What sources suggest she was from Kharkiv? Secondly, Kharkiv IS Ukraine and has always been Ukrainian. Around this time Kharkiv was full of Ukrainian Cossacks who fled from the Polish government in Western Ukraine. Before this time it was largely wild fields. Ukrainians have lived there for centuries. You just need to look up the region names in the oblast that date back to 1500s-1600s: Барвінкове (founded in 1561), Дяків Острог (founded in 1571), Куп'янськ (name first recorded in 1655), Чугуїв (1638 named after clothing worn by Carpathian Lemkos), Люботин (1650s), Деркачі (1660), Вовчі Води (1674, which was later Russified into Волчанск in 1780), Валки (1646). None of these names sound Russian, because people living there were Ukrainian and spoke Ukrainian. All the Russian sounding names started appearing after 1700s after the Russian empire stole our land (i.e. Красноград 1923, Первомайський 1952).

Humashah was actually Circassian, not Georgian. Zafire Hatun was Georgian, but she was not concubine of Ibrahim and Osman was not his son.And Ibrahim had married Humashah legally. They had luxurious wedding ceremony similar like the one of Suleiman and Hurrem. Ibrahim had even ordered his sisters Ayse,Fatma,Hanzade and his niece Kaya to be her servants and they were exiled to Edirne palace for not serving her properly,he also took their jewelry and the apartments of Valide Kosem Sultan and gifted them to Humashah. Also Humasah didn't get along with both Kosem and Turhan. After her son's death,Kosem married her off immediately for other statesman. Turhan was Russian,Dilasub was Serbian,Humashah was Circassian,Shivekar was Armenian and Muazzez may have been Ruthenian,Zafire who was not actually concubine of Ibrahim was Georgian, the origin of the other hasekis of Ibrahim is unknown, but Turhan has surpassed all them in power and influence mostly achieved as Valide Sultan and regent of her son, althought as Haseki she was not that powerful or influential like Shivekar and Humashah.

In real life, the head of the black eunuchs, Suleiman agha, caused a quarrel between Kosem and Turhan. He constantly pitted them against each other. The eunuchs weaved their intrigues against Kosem, who removed them from power and deprived them of many of their previous privileges. Suleiman aga misinformed Turhan many times. She herself was an inexperienced twenty-two-year-old girl and relied on eunuchs and servants for everything. Most likely, she never intended to kill Kosem, she only wanted to deprive her of power and send her to the old palace. On the day of the coup, when Kosem was going to remove Mehmed from the throne and place another grandson on it, Turhan and her son, on the advice of the vizier, changed into simple clothes and left the palace for another place. So she was not in the palace on the night of Kosem's death. As I said, she most likely wanted to send her to the old palace, but not kill her. She could not control Suleiman aga and the crowd that broke in with him, since she was not in the palace. But Suleiman aga wanted Kosem dead. So he killed her.
