For this video, a buddy of mine named Andy handed me the keys to a rather different kind of setup you don't see around here often-a turbocharged Nissan Sentra Spec V with a 50 trim turbonetics turbo. It was quite the little sleeper, and I can say it was a really fun time. Thanks for watching as always and stay awesome!

The Sentra spec-V is like one of those obscure compact performance sports cars that nobody really cares about. I think it deserves a bit more recognition, honestly.

It really does! definitely underated. I've beat many V6 engine cars with my spec v and all it had was the basics intake/headers/exhaust and a short shifter

to be completely honest... it is very expensive to mod this car. unless you are doing minor/bolt on upgrades. y mean the engine itself has a fair amount of well documented problems.. >the counter balance weight locks up and breaks the timing chain. >VALVE COVER LEAK/ SEALS they tend to go out!!! >MAF Moda fociking MAF!!! i built mine but it was a project of love and years in order to have it make reliable power.. and honda has a more "mainstream" market and high demand, which makes it somewhat affordable. all and all i do not regret building my sentra!

Talking about 280 wheel HP like it's not very much? Dude I had a 3500 lb. MK3 Supra with about 230whp, and that thing was fucking insane. I guess nowadays with all the modern cars that make huge horsepower, the definition of what's considered "fast" has been steadily rising. I personally feel like 180whp in a light car is really fast. Even 150whp is quick. People are forgetting that you don't need massive numbers to have fun, especially on the street.

Ben to each his own.. my mustang is close to 295/300 wheel horsepower and while it’s fun it’s nothing compared to like my brothers 5.0 that’s 430ish to the crank and I love it. When you’re constantly driving a car that’s so high in power and torque cars that are in the 100’s aren’t going to be very fun lol

Being a owner of one of these cars, they are just as fun N/A as they are boosted, aftermarket support is finally gaining some ground and growing so if you're looking to get one do it BUT BE WARNED....they can become money pits(as you add more parts to it) plus the stock exhaust manifold needs to be replaced ASAP with a header and the butterfly screws on the upper intake manifold need to be loctited. Add a CAI, Catback Exhaust, lightweight pulleys, motor mount inserts and lower it some and they're really fun cars.

i partially disagree with installing light weight pulleys... they can throw the rotating assembly off!! ( i mean in a performance application or even in the long run) i personally would rather have the rotating assembly balanced and delete the stupid counter weight hidden in the oil pan (stupid design by Nissan). for everything else i will use the JO JO meme here and say: YES...YES...YES.....YES!

I have the blue one. Writing this in 2023. I used it as my daily back in the day when I would drive from Ventura to Malibu. Always took the PCH there and back. I love the car. It is still stock. On the highway, I could get about 30 mpg somewhere around 78 mph. Was awesome to have. Saved the miles on my truck. I have kept it all these years. I have a 2019 Honda R-Type.... but I still love my SE-R. I am about to boost it and I'm replacing the clutch and doing other work on it so it will last another 15 years. Unfortunately, it is made from cheap plastics and lots of the interior I am slowly replacing. Absolute love this car. I plan to drop a couple grand into it every year and just slowly build it up as a project.

I do like how these cars drive, I've driven my buddy's, boosting at 3psi, and even at that, you could still feel the pull. And that's when I found out, I love turbo. It was a 4 speed automatic and I have to say for a bone stock 4-banger, this car was pretty quick. If only it shifted above 6200 rpm thoough, it would have been really quick I bet. Pretty cool platform for FWD performance.. I believe they came with a LSD transmission, a torquey 2.5l engine and you dont see ANY of them on the streets. I think most guys who used to have them have moved on to the new Civic SI's most likely. Its cool to see this one payed attention to.

I have the 1.8l B15, did the intake and exhaust and it too has a very deep exhaust note to it. Between the 1-3k rpm ranges its a deep bassy sound and above that its very sporty sounding. I would like to do a low pressure turbo even though it is the 1.8, just to make it a little more fun.

This seems to be the car that was forgotten in the tuner world. Nice to see this one boosted and actually done up well.

I think you should do another review of a sentra. I know a few guys on the east coast that have some pretty serious builds. and it would be great to showcase the potential these little cars have.

Got a 02.. just put the 850$ eBay kit on running 7lbs. I just street tuned it, I learned a lot. Got about 1.5k miles since build and no issues. When I have the extra money ima put it on the dyno. I'm hoping for 280hp and the same in torque.. this thing is a blast to daily,, so far anyway.. honestly I like this qr.. it don't deserve the hate.

I'd seen one (this was like 12 years ago) and thought that I could race with it in my 4-cylinder Mitsubishi Galant. This Sentra literally took off like a bullet and put me like 5 miles behind it in a few seconds. It won a whole new level of respect from me..., even as I'm typing. I'd thought it was a v-6.
