Try again it worked for me

My Brother picked up a Evo 6 at auction for 27k with a APT Gold Turbo, Front Mount intercooler and Injectors, might have to get it along to one of the cruises in Melbourne

I have used a smaller one of these as an insulator on the charge stud for the alternator in my RE Capella lol!

does it reduce power? i find with my car taking the vacuum line off and blocking it shut theres a significant difference in power. its more sluggish

You probably haven't blocked it properly, which will cause a vacuum leak.

Where does your vacuum line off the plenum closest to the throttle body going? I have an hks bov and it was routed to the bov but obviously since I want to delete it but I see you still have a line running off it. I blocked it off but no turbo flutter. Might be just stupid 😂

lol watching this rn bc i crashed my brz so im looking up turbo flutter videos for my new Q50😂

about a month ago i bought a blocking plate for my mums mazda 6 mps and i installed it but no flutter, so im guessing that the stock intake either muffled the sound that much or a vacuum line wasn't blocked.

Any car being a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder Turbo Diesel ? :p My other (well ok one of) projects , is a grey ex Zac Baldy R33 Skyline that was pulled off its belly .

Hey Zac, looking at gt86 turbo kits and whats the main contributor to the flutter sound. Many of them dont run BoVs but sound very different. the HKS one sounds epic, do you think thats due to the turbo housing (would you know if most modern turbos from garret and precission have anti-surge to prevent them sounding like 90s JDM cars?), intercooler pipe routing lenght? (many kits go around the bumper;long route vs some going through the crash bar; short route), or having a slight dose pipe? (some having filter connecting to turbo vs some having a 2-3" dose pipe for Map sensor).

Just a little help the biggest contributors would be the amount of boost your running as well as the length of the piping between the turbo and throttle body as far as the anti surging tech I would do research on those turbo kits I would say most modern ones tho would have anti surging hope this helps

does capping off the diverter/blowoff make the car run rich? I know if i add a blowoff on my mk1 TT the engine runs rich due to the lack of the recirculating air the ecu has already accounted for

are these mods unhealthy to your car instead of a blow off valve?

Some cars don't like it as the bov outlet is also used as a reference for IACV, but 99% of cars love it :D

Yeah to an extent it is bad, that's why you run a bov or recirculating valve on turbo cars, it manages compressor surge. A properly setup external waste gate sounds like this too, even with a bov. You'll hear stu tu tu first from the waste gate followed by a whoosh from the bov. Long story short compressor surge to an extent is natural for any turbo, but to extreme is very bad and will damage the turbo. The Turbo smart video on compressor surge helped me understand.

@@roninlaw9824 Thanks for the heads up, that's interesting... my S3 was fitted with a Forge Recirculating valve before i bought the car a few weeks ago, i was worried about the stu tu tu sound, but you reckon that is normal... so maybe the sound is from the wastegate? plenty of power and goes like a rocket.. i'll check out the Turbosmart video... thankyou

No it isn't bad. There's a myth that's been argued for like 30 years about turbo bearings wearing faster, but it's never been proven to be a real thing. Compressor surge when you lift your foot is fine. If you get compressor surge while on throttle, THAT is bad, because it means your car isn't making use of all the boost. Either a mismatched turbo, or too much boost. Which can definitely damage your engine, and possibly turbo, as its still being spooled up while not having anywhere to send the air. but thats an entirely separate issue and has nothing to do with a bov. I assume that people hear about the second one and apply the same logic to the first. "I've heard compressor surge is bad for the turbo" Open throttle surge, yes. Closed throttle, no. Unless your turbo is made of glass or coke cans, it'll be fine.

Wouldn't it just be easier to make sure the BOV stays permanently closed.

As an Aussie I'm sure you've heard of Turbosmart. Check out their video on compressor surge. That's why your hearing that violent flutter. It does sound cool, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Airbox is fine, you just need metal intake and charge pipes. And a bit more of straight length directly in front of the compressor. No sharp bends or sudden cutoffs or change of direction (back-to-back bends) either. Also, if you have an anti-surge housing, get a straight housing, instead, or block off the anti-surge somehow. You could just use an undersized pipe to bypass the anti-surge if you don't wanna mod or buy another housing. The absolute best dose will come from a non-anti-surge housing with a correctly sized diameter metal intake pipe that's straight and at least 3x as long as the diameter, with all metal charge piping. Anecdotally, different compressor wheel designs might also dose differently. If it's in the budget , try a 9-blade wheel, 5+5 blade wheel, and a 7+7, depending on what you already have and what's available for your turbo. Hell, a nice billet compressor wheel will be a solid upgrade in general, anyway.
