You should visit a Friday night street race up here in northern Sweden, tons of 4 and 5 cyl Volvos, lots of brutal Audis and everything else you can imagine.

***** Come on man, keep it 4cyl. Or why not a 5cyl from the newer Volvos like the 850R? Hate seeing old Volvo's getting V8 transplants, it got popular here in Sweden a few years ago but died out soon thankfully. Every damn car sounded the same... I'm happy with my 850+hp 4cyl in my 240. And my 5cyl 945.

***** Oh I see. Here in Sweden it's the other way around, V8 builds are a lot more expensive. Parts are like 5x times that of 4 and 5cyl engines. You can find parts cheap everywhere here.

***** Well that's cheap. Double that for a rundown, old and half broken smallblock here in viking land. But for a grand you can get 4-500 hp in a stock 4cyl/5cyl here if you work smart. I bought a 340 hp, naturally aspirated 4cyl engine out of an old rally 240 I found in the local scrapyard. 600 dollars with the 5 speed manual that it had. Slapped on a turbo, some minor internals and stuff, ended up with just below 500 hp. Cost combined with the engine/tranny was somewhere around 900 bucks. Still have the car 6 years later. Use it as my car meet fun car. Burning rubber and trashing tires. Flawless.

Another street race out of Sweden! These guys love their Volvos - whether it has a Small Block Chevy or a turbo Volvo motor!

@@gossy351 we are usally using redblock Volvo engines, most hp In stock engine=1000hp, we also run v8s and 2jz. I have a Ford Angila with a 764.67 hp red block engine, has runed since 2008, and is still going strong 💪

softer suspension is better on awd cars, if it would be stiff it would bounce of the line and loose traction and loose, traction is nr 1 priority

you want the tires to hook up, if they dont they just spin and if they spin without the right setup the car bounces because of the grippy tires, an if it bounces stuff would break

folks are making upwards of 1000hp on the old cast iron 2.3l volvo 4cyl. With decent internals and some head work, they hold up pretty well.

The world record on a Volvo 8valve is 1050hp and 1040 Nm, and that's a 2.7l @ 3.6 bar. And with a 16v it's probably even more.

Many swedish roads lean a bit to the side so that rain water gets of the road better. Do a burnout on a leaning road and your car will turn. The people are holding the car in place sideways.

Yep. Those old cast iron 2.3l volvo 4cyl engines can hold up over 1000hp. The record in a 16valve is 1350 hp. And they can produce 1000+Nm which means they are not only lighter than all V8 Engines, they can produce similar power. I run a Volvo 745 (wagon) with the original four banger running around 760 hp on the rear wheels. My friend has a 900+hp 940. Sweden is the home of brutal modded four bangers. And we also have the largest American car meet in the World called Power Big Meet. 20 000+ American classics gather every year. So we get to race them a lot. Guess who pretty much always win? The small engine bricks haha. My father drives a 468 big block Nova with about 880 hp and spray if needed. He has never beaten my Volvo on the strip. Never.
