Not a Dramatic Soprano!

Oh my, this is bad...what is Anna doing to her voice? She was so good and promising in the beginning of her career. Why try to sing dramatic when you are a full lyrical soprano? Her performances have been bad to worse in the last few years. Too bad. :(

Her voice is completely wrecked. Nilsson herself said and so did Puccini that an Isolde like voice was required to do it justice. Sutherland did an amazing job of turandot but Sutherland had a gargantuan voice. Netrebko is just being a gargantuan moron

The way she was dressed make people think she is from underworld in Chinese culture. She looks very much like Yama as seen in Chinese paintings. Chinese very wear black dresses in the royal palace.

Dreadful. Netrebko doesn't have the dramatic soprano voice to sing roles like Turandot. She's basically just shouting and screeching like a cat. Turandot should be sung by a big voiced soprano. The best Turandot's were Nilsson, Dimitrova, Marton, and the recording by Sutherland, which is fantastic.

I wonder if her colleagues are afraid to let her know about her wobble, maybe they can't distinguish between proper vibrato and a horrible wobble, it is sad to see how her voice becomes worse and worse every year.

From all the comments I expected this to be way worse. Listen to all the dramatic sopranos who sang this at the Met, even together with singers such as Domingo- they were much more wobbly and ingolati than Netrebko. Not a huge fan of Turandot in general, but Netrebko’s acting is pretty good.

She's getting worse and her voice is wrecked. Nilsson and Sutherland did turandot justice because they were both dramatic sopranos. Netrebko is so off pitch it's absolutely hilarious. That husband of hers sings with her and their voices don't blend at all

@@crazyorganist1609 Dramatic coloratura does not mean Wagnerian who can sing coloratura. It means a coloratura with dramatic capabilities. Sutherland was spinto at most, her voice wasn't big but well projected. Has she received a proper training she might've matured to a beautiful Wagnerian voice.

@@vincec8218, thank you. Wonderful voice, but it can't be the same expression all along or the piece looses density and this aria in particular has such an amazing score... At some point one can use less voice in order to have a greater impact when it is really needed. Sound doesn't need to be always big in order to be penetrating.

Soprano tutto lirico. I have no idea what is she doing now and why. Intonation problems, wobble and even the timbre is ugly at this point even though it was really beautiful when she started her carrier. Shame..

Pauvre Puccini ! Avec ses décors et costumes affreux et Netrebko qui n'a pas la voix du rôle !!!

She would have NEVER done this role a few years ago. Top notes a bit strained!! Not too good!

why is she singing that role which isn´t fitted in all for her voice type? She is both ruining the role and her own voice in the whole process meanwhile at the same time!! Did she want to get an earlier retirement of her career?

I find it extraordinary that a singer like Netrebko would want to tackle this awful role. It will destroy her voice.

Other than not having the voice for the role, she is darkening it. And Turandot is by definition “the icy queen” hardly associated with a dark voice but rather a silvery voice à la Nilsson, Deutekom etc

She tries to make her sound dark, but in doing so she sounds like she is choked by a meat ball and wants to force it out. I feel like vomiting hearing her singing this role and in Tosca.

All the envious soprano comments here are impossible. Of course Anna is able to sing Turandot and not for a life time only interested in her most beautiful sounds. Important is the high C, which most other sopranos aren´t able to sing every evening in this role. She is.

Netrebko has a much warmer sound - she humanizes Turandot in a way that the dénouement of the opera is convincing. Nilsson was the ice princess for the duration of the opera.

I think this Turandot is convincing
