I go into detail on how to tune your Base Idle Airflow here in this video.
Tuning is a VERY steep learning curve. I finally got a generous mentor to help me. I'm saving my notes and passing along the favor here on KZread.
Lots of tuners get into tuning fuel, then maybe spark. Their extent of idle tuning is bumping up the idle RPM. That's a poor man's tune in my opinion. This build I wanted to make my idle SPOT on.
I went through a number of processes to get Base Setpoint Idle RPM dialled in. Then base idle advance tuned. Additionally, as a part of this tuning idle process I also calibrated my cable driven throttle body. This video won't go into detail on those.
I'm on round two of adjusting Base Idle Airflow. This is the amount of airflow the Intake Air Controller is adjusting for. Tuning this part of the calibration will make your engine run MUCH better.
I had swapped injectors, and retuned my VE Table with a speed density (MAP) only tune. It was time to revisit the idle airflow. I was excited to notice the new tune is requesting less air at idle. Hopefully that will additionally improve my idle fuel consumption.
I have a lot to share. So much so I couldn't possibly put it all on KZread here. Feel free to reach out if you have any tuning questions:
