If you're talking about the 11 seconds animation that was shown in the video over and over, I am said animator and I do not trace artworks or do scams. If you're talking about lemonteaflower however, I have no idea. I was not involved in the Kickstarter and my animation was not made for that project, it was just a fan animation made for fun.

yeah, everyone calling it a "scam" confuses me, it's not like the person was planning on pocketing all the money, i think they genuinely wanted to make something and just had no clue how much time and money went into making a show. everyone acting like lemonteaflower was some malicious scammer trying to get money from people feels off to me, i don't think they deserve the levels of hate they got.

The art style looks like the most 2014 tumblr art I've ever seen.

@@Limacinablues While people had/have different artstyles (across ALL eras), there are definitely traits of artstyles that tend to get like REALLY associated with a fandom/site. (For example, with the FNAF fandom it's that style used for the Purple Guy thing) Big eyes, a general more roundness to features. Although admittedly I agree with you that the comment OP made kinda comes across like insulting the '2014 Tumblr Style'

I think id be really uncomfortable if people online tried to make me a fiction character in a show

You know of all the Tumblr scams, this one is the least egregious? More a young person getting too much ambition and caught up in the height than anything else. It's unfortunate, but especially since it didn't reach its goal, it feels weird to have this much infamy especially compared to something like all or nothing or hell dashcon.

I was friends with Lemonteaflower while all this was going on and it was so hard to watch all the traumatic levels of hate she (might go by they now? not sure) was getting at the time. I always defended her as best I could because she is a really nice person and was just very young and in over her head at the time but I'm only one person vs THOUSANDS so I sadly couldn't do much I'm happy she's been able to continue her art career and is actually working in animation for real now and was able to move on from all this, though I assume she needed a lot of therapy Edit: it's so nice to see this comment section filled with mostly reasonable comments, thank all of you for being so fair to LTF

IRL best friend of hers here! I was there too and it was HORRIBLE because she herself was underage and (i kid you not) like a week after she turned 18 and I went to her party this shit started :) She had to go to therapy and take a fuckton of pills over something she had 0 control and was manipulated into! Right now because of this video she had to leave social media again and is under meds and therapy again. Don't you love drama?

Heya Izzzyzzz, I just wanna say that I was the one who made the short 11 seconds fan animation and that this video got people to come by the old video and comment on it (no harrassment though, just comments) but I also wanna thank you for mentioning that the animation was just a fan animation and not made for the Kickstarter project itself. I made that short animation for fun and didn't even know it was used for the Kickstarter until someone mentioned it in a comment 4 years ago, which I was not privy to and very much do not appreciate that they did that. I just want everyone who's watching Izzzyzzz video here to know that I have no connection to that failed Kickstarter (again, I never even knew they did a Kickstarter for it) and my animation was NOT made for that.

I agree with this. What they did was wrong, but people are really quick to demonize others. Its really easy to get in over your head as a young artist. And people falling back on the things they used to draw just rubs me wrong. Thought crime vibes, do they want making certain pencil markings to be illegal? Art is expression, of even the twisted things inside us. Its art. Its not real. Blame reality for reality, art is just a reflection of what already exists, interpreted by the individual. Something can be disgusting and despicable to me - but people still have the right to draw said thing. I firmly believe that. Like I said, they were in the wrong for this whole scandal, but the way people are so quick to demonize someone who was a dumb kid who probably just severely got in over their head? Nah. Theyre just a person with issues like everyone else. They should have refunded everything they could have, though.

Maybe pre-2015 tumblr had an idea of being ~the coolest place on the internet~ but it's just not the case anymore Theres just something about tumblr that's slightly off kilter with the rest of reality so we end up with this animation scam or the race-faking aids scam or the grave robbing bone thief

While the idea of Ms. Officer and Mr. Truffles is cute, I don't really know what you would've done with it. It just seems like a cutesy version of Brickleberry. This reminds of that one post about the old guy who wanted to make friends with folks at barbecue parties and advertised that on Tinder. Everyone(including myself) thought it was a cute and funny story, but then everyone found out that he was actually a registered sex offender with multiple convictions. I think that's why I rarely reblog these famous Tumblr chains, because I always get the feeling there's some dark story behind them that I'm not aware of.

I worked for an indie animation studio, the price per minute of finished animation was 10k which is on the low end so a 80k price for a 7 minute pilot isn’t inconceivable or even ridiculous, though perhaps a bit steep for an armature work.

Tiktok's Ratatouille the musical actually slaps, so perhaps one day an app full of teens will be able to get an overly ambitious project off the ground after all?

So much of Tumblr drama reminds me of my elementary school dramas. It starts like we love playing tag, then we decide to make it a club with ranking positions, the “executives” begin to go on power trips without having any capability to organize anything, it’s no longer fun at all, then the club just dissolves until we decide to make another club about something else.

Tumblr people have a trend of really being into a really basic concept, make a shit ton of posts about it and try to make it a big thing, and when something is attempted about it... they don't know how to do it properly, almost like they don't know what they are doing. Basically dashcons over and over again.

I was very young when I used to go there and seeing people excited about a concept was cool to me, especially how many people did fanart but at that point I didn't know how tumblr people used to be since I was a kid myself.

I remember seeing that picture, but in my circle of Tumblr everyone was just pointing out that a baby bear approaching you means you're in immediate danger of being attacked by a mother bear.

Pretty tragic part of Tumblr history.. It started as a cute project based off an actual photo, with even merch being made, lot of love for it, and almost being made into an actual cartoon, but of course it went into flames when the Kickstarter project was mistreating the people a part of the project and the person who first made the concept being discovered to make underage NSFW in the past made people lose hope and go against the project, I kinda find it sad because it started as this innocent concept into drama and now being the biggest Tumblr "scam" I had "" because I think about the Kickstarter as more of a failed project then a scam personally.. But yeah, at least we can learn something about this part of internet history.

@@winxy5191 yeah. There's plenty of screenshots of Alan not crediting artists who work on the pilot episode. The whole controversy was swept under the rug. He also hired the person in this video which that alone is scummy. Don't even get me started on his shady behavior around fans and coworkers.

my eyes widened when you said "lemonteaflower" i originally discovered her from this funny Gorillaz drawing and then found all her other art

Wasn't there a whole thing where LTF wasn't the one behind the kickstarter? they drew the original art, but I have vague memories of them answering asks explaining that it wasn't their project. I might be misremembering, though.

Yes. LTF was the only person who actually lost money from this because an older person took over the financial side. Once the drama began LTF was left to handle the abuse and death threats and the third party disappeared with the money

I have gotten that one snippet of lyrics stuck in my head way too many times since I watched this video.

I remember when I was in high school the creator was close friends with my math teacher, and during one of our intersession classes she came in and was pitching the idea to us students. Who at the time were 15-16. I know a few of us thought it was interesting but like everyone in that class as soon as she left we forgot about it. I only found out 2 years later that it was a tumblr dumpster fire and there was supposedly a lot of drama behind it.

I’ve always thought that when someone says “Someone should make a real show!” it was a joke and that’s it. I had no idea people were actually attempting to make it happen (whether with ‘Miss Officer and Mister Truffles’ or ‘All or Nothing’).

They’re not like us forestry services or anything like that and they’re largely responsible for policing native/First Nations people. Take what they’re doing in wet'suwet'en territory as an example.

They would have been better off starting with a Webcomic or testing the waters with just 1 physical volume comic book to build their fanbase until some big company noticed them to sponsor them to even make a actual show.

I agree, except for the "over drawings" part. That site's a perpetual feeding frenzy, people will turn on each other over literally anything.

What a shame, this looks like a show that I would constantly make fanart of.... Too bad people just want to make harmful claims and ignores people who *actually deserve to be cancelled.*

That’s not what made this project fail tho lol. It failed because nobody involved had any idea what they were doing or how to manage a project of this scale and the funds associated with that. Also the abuse of artists.

III auditioned for this show. It was shortly after the cast got announced basically right after I did that I started smelling blood in the water (waaaay later than I should have).

I remember immediately after dashcon someone made a post about a fandom themed British style pub where all the drinks were superwholock related and everyone started doing the "OMG LETS MAKE THIS A REAL THING" thing and I looked at it and thought "It has been less than a week and they have already forgotten"

after all the stories i've heard about artists not getting paid for their work, i'm surprised people haven't started putting a watermark on the first image they show the person, and only sending the original/unwatermarked version after they receive payment. i'm not an artist but i've created other kinds of content, and the ONE TIME i sent before getting paid, they blocked me immediately afterwards and never paid me. ever since then, i've been very strictly never sending anything before i have the money, but i understand for things like this they have to actually show what they've made, which sucks because seeing people getting ripped off for anything makes me so pissed.

To think this Kickstarter and Dashcon occurred within a month of each other… I miss the craziness of 2014 Tumblr, almost.

I used to be roommates with this bear back in college. He's doing OK now, but he never forgave the force for killing his buddy. He handed in his badge and went back to living in the woods after that.

I remember being on Tumblr around the time this was a thing, even made a Miss Officer shirt in Animal Crossing New Leaf. I never really thought much about the project coming to a stop because I didn't look up much stuff & am use to stuff just showing up & getting attention before just suddenly disappearing. It's unfortunate how things turned out. I think I was aware of a kickstarter being made but at the same time I don't remember it. Memories are a weird thing.

As some one with Newfoundland ancestry and a born & raised Canadian, it would've been so cool to get some rep. Sad this was a scam bc it seems so cool in theory.

I saw "bee and puppycat" mentioned in one of those posts and I'm not sure what it is but I heard it got a netflix series a while back

Small thing about how much of the money they were pumping into merchandise. When creating a show, so much of the money made from advertising and the like is split in many different directions. To the point where most showrunners make about the same amount yearly as retail workers. It's the same in comics. Merchandise is the biggest way creators can actually make any good money from what they've created, as the money made from selling shirts and mugs and things don't have to be spread as thinly. If you wanna be able to make a show or a comic, and live relatively well, you have to make sure it's marketable because your biggest check will be from the merch. That being said, 80k for a pilot is ridiculous. As someone who has worked in the industry, the cost of animation depends on how big your team is, and if you're working with an animation company. Bee and Puppycat asking for 500k for several episodes makes sense, as they were already being backed by Frederator, so finding animators and writers for it wasn't that difficult. If you're working on a pilot, there's a lot you have to think about, and most of the time, people will know if you're being greedy or are too inexperienced to actually know how much it should cost. In this case, I think she was too inexperienced. Everyone always hears that animation is expensive, but there's more to it than that. I know. Necroposting. But I wanted to give my own thoughts.

I remember seeing the original tumblr post after the 3 extra pictures were added- thought it was cute. Never knew it ended up becoming like this eventually.

That might be one of the most "mild" drama or controversy I've ever seen. I was waiting for something horrible to happen but no, it's more or less just a young artist mismanaging a huge overnight fame, wanting to make some money out of it and maybe kickstart a career/franchise. I don't think it started as a scam, just a passion project that started with a viral illustration that spiraled out of control and was managed like shit. The kickstarter goal should have been way way smaller than that with next to no emphasis on merch except maybe for t-shirt and regular things; and then grow from there, maybe with a patreon or something, I mostly see someone who tried to go too big too fast. Did they have some controversial past or behaviors? Yeah, probably, and it should be pointed out and addressed; but apart from this point, it's quite a mild scam/controversy.

It's really sad. I'm nearly 30, and I could never imagine "beating down" an 18 year old kid like this. It's not a crime to have dreams and aspirations. The goal was never reached and the money was refunded. Hubris is not malicious intent and Tumblr cannot seem to differentiate them.

I like to imagine she gets all made up like this every day and everyone in her town is just totally used to it by now. Someone new shows up and if they try to talk about it everyone just says "What do you mean? She looks normal to me."

I deeply enjoy that I got to live through so much Tumblr drama. It’s truly like documenting ancient civilizations.

to be clear just because i dont want to be given credit for things i did not do: i didnt post the expose on the animators being mismanaged and taken advantage of. i only made the first posts and one of the friends of the animators used them as a jumping point to speak about their experience. that person is tumblr user potentialforart. well, bye.
