Tuffy Security Products and Tundra Seat Fold Down Mod

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I got a goodie for my Tundra. Did you guys know Tuffy makes products for trucks too and not just Jeeps? I also found a way to modify the seat brackets on the Toyota Tundra double cab so the rear seats can fold down to give extra storage. From the factory they don't fold down... why not Toyota, it would have been so simple!

only problem with the seat mod would be overpacking gear behind it. if you do, you won't be able to lift the seat bottoms up to get stuff from underneath. if you pay attention to the way the seat works, the back of the seat swings back against the rear wall as the bottom comes up. i have to explain this to tundra (and other truck) customers all the time when they want to add sub enclosures behind there.

Thanks for the info on seat folding. It seems like Toyota got lazy on that one. The brackets on the 2021 Tundra dont have the little plastic circles so the 7/8" measurement is a good guide to go by. Also it would be helpful to mention that you'll likely need to unbolt the seat belt anchors in order to lift the seat high enough to get them off the slot brackets otherwise you're fighting that issue also. After that little minor battle it works awesomely. Tanks !!

Couple of things with this mod. 1 The hardest part of this job is getting the T30 torx head screws OUT. Fortunately they are G8 screws. So they didn't round out. I had to use a 5-32 allen bit and a mini side ratchet. I think they used Loctite-lite on them. Plus the seat frame/cushion really get in the way. 2 When reinstalling use bolts. I had some M6x1-12mm that I used. Worked perfect. 3 There are 6 bolts to remove. Not just the floor bolts. The other 3 go on the back panel. 4 Planning on adding a small grab strap on the upper part of the seat. I really like this mod for the rear seat. Now I can add a Mini-9 ping pong paddle to the mix.

You should add the same color fabric that you have on the floor to the side of the box if you could find some. That would really hide the box from the sides when you open the doors.

This is kind of off topic, but it looks like you have an SR? Because the SR5 comes with something similar I believe. It does not look too difficult to take the back seats out all together, is it? I might be interested in doing that for my dog. He's the only one that really ever rides in my truck anyway. And if I could pull out the back seats, while still having the option to put them back in at another time, that would be great.

Remove all the bolts floor and bolts on the back wall under the back rest with the seat bottom folded ( 9:00 6 bolts ) don’t remove the 2torx bolt that keep the seats together lift the seat up and out p.s. a helper would make it easy remove the retaining hooks and cut off One inch from the thin side off the hooks make absolutely sure to keep the tip at the same angle then smooth the cut piece with a file or Dremel put hooks back reinstall the bolts you removed then lift the sitting part of the seat with one hand on the backrest push towards the rear and when you slightly lift the seat you can feel it hook do reverse to fold down

Unfortunately, no. Nor will the seat mod work because the seat design is different from the double cab. I took out the 40 seat and discovered there are no hooks to modify nor anything connecting the seat to the rear of the cab. There seem to be 2 bracket like pieces welded to the hinge of the seat, preventing it from folding. I'm sure this is a toyota safety concern. I am contemplating cutting the hinge but with no way to secure the seat back, I don't want it flopping around.

A $30 crowbar and someone could leave with a whole tuffy box and whatever goodies are inside in a matter of seconds. Other than that it looks like a cool install. ... Also what safety issues might modifying the brackets like that have?

As good as you are at fabricating I would think you could make a box that would contour itself to the floor instead of sticking up several inches. Also you could install a lock that had a spring loaded rod that secured both sides with only one keyed lock. Come-on Matt, your good at this kind of thing, quit wimping out and get to fabricating.

But what do I know, I work on Volvo's.

Someone can just unbolt those seat bolts and take off with the entire box, including what's inside. So why not use security bolts to make it a little harder for an average thief. Thieves are lazy, and that just seem too much work for them to bother with it.
