One of my favorite moments in all the orchestral literature... The two tubas here do the rest of the orchestra such a justice and it sounds just glorious...

My F tuba is B&S JBL F tuba. 5th valve is bit longer than 1st valve, and 6th valve is bit longer than 2nd valve. We can play low F with pushing all valve! And 6 valve tuba has more German sound I guess.

Thank you! I don't know, it is not really "traditional style". But I think this is really good idea to play with octave lower for 2nd tuba. My orchestra is Singapore Symphony. And I invited Sergio Carolino in this Jan! He is awesome player and guy!!! Thank you very much for enjoying my video!!!

Thanks, I so happy I stumbled on this. I was looking for a video of the low brass master class I was in last summer. We play the whole piece for the American Festive For The Arts, its a high school level summer music conservatory. When we play it I was still playing a BBb Miraphone 186, and it kicked my butt, but it went well.

Hello This is a B&S JBL Classics. Nice horn!

Sounds pretty good for an ipod! I thought about doing this my next Wind Ensemble Rehearsal with my Ipad. You two play great together, people can't appreciate a nice tuba sound in octaves.

My orchestra is Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. We had someone from Singapore participate in the Conductor's workshop here I believe (possibly even your conductor??) The octave lower sounds wonderful! We have played the Berlioz Fantastic Symphony twice since I have been with the BSO and it sure would have been easier on an F tuba lol. Again thanks for sharing this...it is a pleasure and a first rate job too. (and beautiful tubas as well)

I don't know by Wind Ensemble version well. The original part(I guess Ophicleide and Serpent) was written by octave. And I believe if tuba will play by octave, we can hear Basson better. But unfortunately, we played bit too loud (means great. hehehehe) :)

It's not that high at all. It's still an easy not for a contrabass tuba

I remember playing this ages ago with a pretty decent municipal orchestra. It seems the written part was actually down an octave on the Bb. Maybe there was a choice? Honestly I can't remember.

@semarcus1 I played high (B&S JBL), and Sergio played low (coz he was an extra player in my orchestra, and he use my YAMAHA YFB822 raw brass with gold plated slides)

Man it sucks that you couldn't get this recorded in a better quality makes the trombones sound a bit "small". Either way still awesome yall sound great!

I recently inherited a B&S PT-16. It also has six valves. I know about the the fifth valve but the sixth is a bit of a mystery to me. Could you help?

If you research the Berlioz’s original score, you’ll find that it written by octave on these part. For sure you known it already, and it’s not written for Tubas(it’s by Ophicleides).

@@hidetuba I was aware that it was written for ophicleide so rather than tubas but I’ve not seen any score apart from the published version for two tubas. Do you have a link to the original? I’d be fascinated to see it and look at the differences.
