Funny enough this sign effect is reversed in the Another Step episode, here it starts as the Hate sign then starts fluturating with the love sign before it gets erased when Doki and Nabi both embrace and drown out the voices of both sides. In another step it starts as the Love sign when Il-ho, Sam-ho and Pi storm Yi-ho and the love extremist main base, it flucturates when the locked up hate protestors get freed and then it's erased when both sides stop fighting and work together to save Il-ho.

I remember watching this as a kid. I would have to sneak through my parents' room while they were sleeping. Oddly, I never woke them up. I was a sneaky little bastard. Besides the point. Seeing this on newgrounds, one of the few innocent things I can remember running into. I fell in love with it. It's been years. Out of nowhere, the first song just comes to my head today. Here I am. I love the fact that at first it just seems like a somewhat cute comedy story. But little by little it gets deeper and deeper until at the end you feel satisfaction to see them together. We need more love stories like that.

Imagine knowing these characters since back in the newgrounds days.

So many years later, and still the world tries to put barriers to love. Race, gender, religion, everyone has an opinion on who you should be able to love. And still this little clip, every time, gives me new hope that the world can be better.

This brings me back to the glory days of Newgrounds. Such nostalgia and good feelings.

This will always be a timeless classic. Even after seeing all these years later and it still hits like a bus on steroids

That quote is from the final step, released in 2008. The quote is a bit odd too ... it might be incorrectly translated, or there's something more implied by the Korean text. But the quote is the opposite to what the show tries to tell. - The world has to change, and allow interracial relationships, so he can be with his true lover. - But the way way the quote starts with "I thought that", implies that everything else don't have to happen. Meaning, if the world won't change, we can still reach happiness. That the world doesn't have to change. Maybe a better English translation would be "My belief is that,".

Been 10 years since I saw this concluded. Still gets me right in the feels. I remember the surprise of suddenly seeing Step 2 appear (and the flash didn't run too well on my crummy computer at the time). Then we had to wait three whole years for step 3. But then suddenly we got 3, 4 and 5 within six months. But hoo boy that three month wait between step 4 and 5 was agony.

At 20:00 minutes; the last thing you'll then see is Nabi being chased by the crowd, as he tries to get to Doki's home ... and Doki has already left for the airport. - That doesn't sound like the greatest point for it to end for you. > _"Dying before getting to see the last step would fucking suck!"_ As it ends halfway through the last step, that kinda makes it worse.

What's deep about this is that she loves animals and every animal she takes care of and rescues, she places them a green scarf. If you notice after the hedgehog's death, she dumps the ashes onto the tree, and ties its scarf onto the branch. That tree with the many scarfs that Nabi finds, is the tree with the scarves of all the animals she (Doki) lost. That drove me to tears. Very very deep.

It’s actually based on a common tradition in Korea where people tie ribbons to trees as a way of making a wish. The multiple ribbons are a sign that Doki is not the only one wishing for peace. EDIT: I just read the book a little while ago, and it turns out that we're both right.

Gosh this is an absolute masterpiece I even obsessed with it back in 2019

This grew from a cute, comedic love story into a lifetime masterpiece. It crushed me and made me cry, but I still love it so much. I'm so sad that I discovered this years later. From now on, Doki and Nabi will always have a special place in my heart. 짧지만 아름다운 이런 명작을 탄생시킨 삼박자님, 감사합니다!

It's been years since I watched this beloved series, and it's profound message still makes me teary-eyed. One of the best animated series on the internet, and I'm so glad I came across it on Newgrounds back in the day! We all need a Doki and Nabi in our lives.

I remember watching these as a kid so many years ago. Crazy how things can stick with you throughout the years.

My wife is Korean and I met her while teaching over there. I definitely remember the occasional glares, especially from older people. This hits home. Then we moved back to the States and the hate crimes spiked. So it hits home again.

@@albertbecerra Well, hate crimes against Asians are obviously more likely to occur in the areas that have larger Asian populations. Which tend to be coastal states or hub cities like Chicago. Yeah, most of which tend to be blue states or regions. I would argue, to both of you, that where these hate crimes occur likely has very little to do with the voting habits of the regions it occurs or the person committing the act. Correlation does not equal causation. I can definitely tell you that I don't care about either.

Said it once and gotta say it again. The little suitcase exchange Doki and Nabi have at the airport is exactly the promise Nabi made to Doki in the 1st episode, when he surrendered after Doki cut down the tree.

I stumbled upon this on Y8 when I was little I didn't understand the language because it was in Korean and I was Filipino but I could still get the message and it hit right me in the feels watching this again, thank you for making this you made me feel like a child again hope you're doing great.

I literally just logged into my Newgrounds account again after more than 10 years and the first thing I see was your announcement about a new animation you were doing. Seeing your name and your art immediately hit me with nostalgia! I love rewatching this again so much!

22:17 It's so perfect, the animation timing their hug right at the peak of the song, gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up every single time. It's a single perfect moment that merges everything beautiful about this series and art as a whole.

All the emotions I felt the first time have come back. Thank you so much for such a wonderful series.

What is impressive is that it's all done without saying a single word. And instead with emotions and the music which helps set the mood for each episode perfectly. That's a powerful message.

Proof that you don't necessarily need to be a knight in shining armour, riding on a white horse, to sweep a lady off her feet. Sometimes, all it takes is just being dressed in street clothes (including a lucky green scarf), and pretty good luggage bag-riding skills. 😆

SamBakZa, I cannot thank you enough for your work, truly. I became obsessed as a child with There She Is and it helped me accept myself for who I am and inspired me to pursue my artistic career and now I've made it! Finally landed a stable job in art and I'm celebrating by watching again, still makes me cry lol

Doki's pet didn't die... in the HD remaster, that is. The original did not include the scene where she releases him afterwards, and it was just strongly hinted at that it did happened. Which, honestly... I find it *extremely* depressing, but makes the ribbon tree scene much stronger afterwards.

Actually, Doki is the japanese one (Doki=Heartbeat) and Nabi, the korean (Nabi is a popular name for cats in Korea).

Actually, Doki(bunny/rabbit) is a Japanese girl; Nabi(cat) is a Korean guy. An impossible romantic love between Japanese and Korean people in both S' Korea and Japan during post-WW2

Yeah, apparently there was a time when Japanese people treated Koreans worse than slaves. I didn't know about this until my mum told me some weeks ago. No wonder that romance between these two peoples was frowned upon. As if love could ever be a bad thing.

So glad to see this series survives on KZread. It's been a while since I last thought of There She Is!! and with Flash officially dead now I was worried about it. This little series of videos helped me persevere in my darkest years, and I would've been devastated if it was erased from the Internet. 💖

The newgrounds interactive versions are still around. They have embedded a emulater called "Ruffle" onto the original versions, so they're still accessable.

I fell in love on newgrounds with steps 1 and steps 2 more than a decade ago. To this day this series still calls me back to watch and cry.

It makes me so sad that only the Witches' song is on Spotify, There She Is!! was so vital to my tastes in music now-a-days and I wish I could show both it and the artists featured throughout it the love they deserve... SamBakZa thank you for creating a soul-touching keystone in my life!! Edit: Since I made this comment, I found out that SamBakZa had finally been able to release merch, so at least in regards to them I was able to give support all these years later

@@AKA.CrystalStarTheFox You're talking about part 5, right? I think that was like, it passing on or something. Because it definitely died in part 4. If it just, miraculously was alive again in part 5, it'd kinda ruin the impact in part 4, & that whole plot-point wouldn't've had any reason to exist.

I remember watching this on Newgrounds in middle school. This story hit me hard then and hits me hard now. I always cry watching this but it's so cute/beautiful and well made.

Every year I repeat this short drama

I wish I had more than "This message is so important!" but I'm at a loss. The characters are easy to know and follow, theres hardly a language barrier, and the whole of it all applies to many groups of people. I hope more people can find this animation in the future ❤

Absolutely timeless. I remember seeing this first uploaded back in Newgrounds in the early 2000s and was blown away by how well this was animated.

SO many good feelings!!!! Every time. Thank you.

I still love how at the end 22:28 everything Doki dreamt about at the beginning 1:08 comes true in like 5 seconds :D

Back in the early days of paragonx9, f-777, bounc3, hania, skymarshall and many others... this series out shined many.

@@spacecadet0 you are agreeding with dfghjIl, im also a old newground user but i haven't seen the today stuff from that site.

Back when I watched this when I was young, anime and animation as a hobby was not really well known in Korea and seen more as something for young kids. So seeing this I felt "Someone else also likes animation" and felt really moved. Now seeing how it's picked up a bit in Korea I feel a little emotional. A lot of things don't change or become worse over time, but there can be small things that do become better.

Even though this was part of my childhood and one of my many inspirations that inspired me to become an animation student, I'm gonna leave this comment as a sign of appreciation and love officially! I will always hold this animation dearly to my heart for years to come!! Just a few days ago, I showed my friend this for the first time. We all grew up with NG, but he had somehow missed it. I told him I only had one issue with the HD remakes, and now it's all perfect. I don't know why, but that "but she..." hits me like a truck every time. Glad it's back. Awesome to see it compiled in such a clean manner with the little extra bits. I'll always love this; thanks for everything!

AFAIK, the next one isn't an "episode 6." It's a different but related story with the same or similar themes, set in the same place and it will feature some of the minor characters in this series as its main characters.

It always makes people including me cry, since it was created until now. That's when you know this song is really relatable in so many aspects...

This is so fricking cute!! I love how the kitty was just minding their own business, then the bunny was love struck! Then as time passes, the kitty soon falls for the bunny!! This love story is so relatable, because sometimes not all lobe it allowed. Yet, they have to stand by their love!! It’s kinda sad, yet it’s so touching and heart warming!!

My best friend showed me this during breakfast at High school. She said this was her childhood and I actually really liked it. I'm not friends with her anymore, and I came here because I miss hanging out with her, the animation, the music, everything is beatiful. But watching this after she left my life, lefts a bitter taste in my mouth.
