Interesting comments. You might consider doing a year in wrap up in which you discuss the best and worse inexpensive lenses. Maybe break it down in categories of wide angle, Street (20-35), portrait and telephoto ( if there are any at 90 or greater)

Your point about the Sigma 30mm is a good one. And some of these super-fast lenses are big, heavy and not that good, so there's no point in using them unless the super hazy shallow depth of field is the whole reason for the trip. Using them anything other than wide open doesn't make much sense. Which means that in addition to being big and heavy, they're not very versatile.

"simply disappointing" is a stretch when you compare the price. You're getting this lens for portraits and probably going to be a 35mm second lens for fun.

Hey Arthur, I have been having an issue with my a6100 function dial. When on MR, M, or S, the camera continuously switches between shooting modes making it impossible to take pictures or shoot video. I tried using compressed air and cleaning alcohol but it always comes back. Just wanted to know if you have ever had this issue and if you know there is a fix I tried chatting with Sony support but they redirected me to their repair site which starts around $300 for general repairs This issue started happening to my camera about 1 year of owning it I saw a couple of posts of other people having this issue online but with no solutions Thanks for your time and I’m a fan of your videos

Hi Arthur, thanks for the review! I have tried the 7Artisans 50mm f/0.95 but finally returned it mostly because of these bokeh triangles and ordered me a Sigma 56 instead 😄 The thing I miss about the 7A though is the mechanical feel of setting the aperture on the lens and a physical focus mechanism not turning to infinity like the Sigma's and am considering getting another manual prime but looking at those .95 options they all seem to have the same problems of not really being on point on the optical side which still remains a lens's main purpose 😅 Have you had the opportunity to try the Laowa 33/.95? It seems to be the only hope if I were to go down the .95 path from what I have heard 🤔 Thanks in advance, cheers!

I think this lens will be appreciated by people who like to have fun with their photography. And, let's be real, it's a $200 manual focus lens. I don't think anyone has professional expectations in mind when considering this lens. I wouldn't use it on a Sony anyway. I probably wouldn't use any manual focus lenses on a Sony. Kind of goes against Sony's biggest strength. I think you could have lots of fun with this on a Fujifilm camera. Come to think of it, maybe that's the only system that this lens would be fun on. I think I'll order this lens and see for myself. I bet it's a great night street photography lens, as well as a night out with friends and family kind of lens. Who knows, maybe you got a bad copy. It happens, even with the best lenses. If it sucks I'll report back to confirm your conclusions. If it turns out to be decent for the price I won't be back.

i have a canon 50mm 1.8 stm and a speedbooster on my EOSM. Because of the speedbooster i can open up to 1.2. The canon is a nice lens too so im thinking ill stick with that than spend the money on this... althought, that 0.95 was tempting for the price. I have a 7 Artisans lens which i got mega cheap. Its a 25mm 1.8. Its compact and i love it.

I am waiting for my copy to be delivered.. I decided to take the gamble. Because the reviews for this lens is all over the place, which means either copies vary a lot - probably true, but you can always swop out, or most reviewers dont know what you do with a lens like this. F0.95... 35mm on a crop sensor. That should give you a depth of field of about 4 cm (less than 2 inches) at 1.2m or 4ft from the subject (a head and shoulder portrait shot) - which is the only real use I can think of for a lens such as this. Yet I see only examples of street photography, full length body shots from 10 meters away, and landscapes from most reviewers. My old EF 28-135mm IS POS lens will outperform this lens for those uses no doubt. But it cant do F 0.95. From the many reviews I have looked at, it does look like the bokeh is a bit weird.. It looks like the background must not be too far away, then it gets busy. So to me it looks like if you know the limitations and you craft your images to suit, this is a cheap lens to do great portraits with - but it is not for most photographers. Now lets see how long it takes for me to eat my words once I receive this lens...

The only "off" brand lens camera manufacturer that I would still group with Meike/7artisans/TTartisans that actually has a decent optical standard would be Viltrox and Laowa. All the rest are just out to flood the market with inferior glass that doesn't add any good value over price comparisons. Maybe if the 35mm f0.95 lens was $100 it would be a better "deal" to an average person looking to buy a cheap manual lens. Its quality as is can't be justified for its price over an old 35mm Vivitar vintage for example that you could buy for $20-35.

"If someone make new product that worse than previous one?" not in the lens world, might be, but everything else - all around. Plastic cheaper, metal thinner.... but retail price is the same. Compare products quality from 80-90s and from 2020s, from rocksolid products to cheap "replica", even do not need to mention packaging from toilet paper "cardboard"... ("we make a cheap and recycle packaging.... but keep pricing the same") Regarding this lens, I assume it is not bad, but not correctly priced

f0.95 is a marketing gimmick; almost none of the lenses rated as such perform acceptably when used wide open. You can buy 'classic glass' that is better if you skip on the large aperture fixation. I think these companies are making "artsy" lenses where the poor image quality is supposed to be the desired affect. I'd rather use a sharp Super Takumar and soften the results on the computer if that's the effect I'm after.

Oh i first comment , i am honored . I will just say that i use 28 to 80mm Canon EF F3.5 to F5.6 .... and it makes better images then this , but i use Photo lights , and even my casual image beats all of this , i have Canon 5D much older then what is used here , a lens at least 20 years old , BUT i control the light ... and every photo is a gem . So i will tell you , the most important thing in photography is Light , after that composition , the lens comes at 6.-7th place , almost irrelevant .

ppl often go for sony because of their great AF-System, so why buy a manual lens (that is not ultra-wide) at f/0.95 with an extremely shallow depth of field making MF really hard while the optical quality is below smartphone standards??? For me this makes absolutely no sense at all, unless someone wants to create a vintage look aka bad IQ. And hell, it comes for 260€ in EU, which is just 60€ below the famous and sharp Sigma 30mm f/1.4/ 50€ below a Sony 35mm f/1.8 with AF AND OSS! Edit: I completey forgot to mention, that it looks absolutely horrible and cheap, lacks a lenshood and a lenscap.
