very interesting....I must get this film one day as it seems to shed light on some often forsaken elements of Karate-do. all seems to focus now on winning a trophy or besting an opponent.....when it should only be about besting yourself- being better today than tomorrow and being better tomorrow than today. Wish I could've met both Ohtsuka 1 &2. I envy the guy called Marco....getting a chance to study from such a great legend in the world of Karate.

www.emptymindfilms.com/movies/warriors-budo-episode-two/ I believe this is the episode featuring the nidai soke. It also features the JKA and the KWF.

Great video, great art. But knife defences just do not work. I have been a doorman for over thirty years and have encountered lots of street weapons and knives, Screwdrivers, Stanly blades etc are very hard to defend against. And a determined person intent on stabbing you will stab you.

you're absolutely right. In fact, those techniques are not meant to be self-defence. It's a study of Ma-ai (distance) and body connection.

Absolutely. I was at an Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate training camp and there was a whole session solely dedicated to different types and approaches to knife defense and basically the whole point of it was to show you in live training that you'll get cut and stabbed.

Yes sir you are right .But even in wado ryu seminars japanse instructors tell you that point of knife defense training is just to teach you distance and evasion stuff for general combat. Reason for using knife is that students tend to learn much more quickly instead of punches and kicks ect.
